What kind of Vibraphone is that? The bars are very skinny on it? as apposed to a "normal" one. The ones my high school has and other groups. lol I'm just curious
It's a Deagan vibraphone. It has graduated bars (3 different sizes) but you're right, they're smaller than the ones you'll find on for instance a Musser M55.
.... le vibraphone .... instrument de la fammille des percussions qui est le plus souvent utilisé dans le jazz .. l'improvisation est tellement simple et tellement résultante de bonheur aux oreilles qu'on ne peux que aimer cet instrument <3
This is just beautiful. It has a bit of jazz feel, but maintains chords that feel good next to each other. The sound is just wonderful. I have found a new favorite song, and just checked out your website. Beautiful music, truly beautiful.
I always loved percussion instruments from the very first contact...
and you play the vibe in a superb way ! I'm jealous and would like to perform like that right away, knowing at the same time it is impossible for me. You are great.
I first heard this song probably three years ago. I used to play the vibraphone and marimba during high school and I had heard a lot of good music and musicians. But never did I hear a song like this... that makes my heart melt every time I hear it. It's things like this that make the world a beautiful place. Thank you, Martin Fabricius.
Very pretty music, it is calming my dog. Now I know what that "sound" is from. Making music is soo cool, would be better if I knew how to play an instrument though.
Hi Martin, I would like to know. Do you have written your solo too ? Cause I'd like to learn it like yours first, and then to be able to work on a solo of my own.
@martinfabricius Hey Martin, I just bought it, thank you very much for puting the solo on a score store. I'm going to work on this for my college recital, thank you!
@martinfabricius Oh, really, good idea! I have to say that the rythm isn't that easy, and I'm drummer, haha! Thank you for the tip! I learnt the first page today, too bad I have others things to practice for school. I give them all my practice time !! I have to practice more! Thank you again Martin !
MyScoreStore is unfortunately closing but I've made le written music available through my own website. Please go to the "shop" on my page martinfabricius.eu

wonderfully played! i agree, greatest instrument ever. My vibes are my proudest purchase ever. I would love to play your music, would it be possible to send it to me? Do you have things published?
Wow, what a nice piece. I really love the complexity of the dual melodies. Your bass playing reminds me of some of Hiroki Kikuta's work in the Seiken Densetsu series, which I love. Kudos.
I love the way you play... It's so sophisticated, the melody and the fills
you're doin really good. Can you do me a favor and send me the lead sheet as well?
I would like to do my best and try it
I'm not a student, but an enthused vibes-player. Another question: because of williscool's questions for hinks: What do you think about the "Real vibes book" to train playing jazz vibes?
About the Real Vibes Book, I'm sorry to say I don't know it. One book that's great though is David Friedmans book on dampening. It will really do a lot to help you express your self freely on the instrument. Another great book is the Jazz Piano Book... play the stuff on the piano, then adapt it on the vibes.
Thank you so much for the lead sheet! I love hearing you play this tune. Anyways i was hoping you would be willing to do me a favor...Im currently studying in a music conservatory, but my professor does not know how to play jazz vibes at all. So i was hoping that you would be willing to give me a few pointers, and hopefully point be in the right direction. My biggest problem is that i dont know where to start! Any advice is appreciated.
at some point, I'll write the whole thing out, but for now you are pretty much on your own. Here are some hints though:
I would start by learning/memorizing the melody, then the bass notes. Try if you can play both at the same time with your two outer mallets. Doing this will give you something that sounds fairly complete since you have both a melody that plays a lot of chord tones and a bass that moves in a contrapuntal satisfying way,-
Moving on you can practice the chords. Try to play them as arpeggios imitating the latin rhythm I do. Don't worry about playing the melody, but imagine you are accompanying some one else playing it. Once you can play the chords and you can play the melody with the bass notes try filling in the chord notes with your two inner mallets.
The main function of the chord notes is really rhythm but of course you want to play your rhythm with the right notes. Once you get all this going, you can make small detours playing fills in the holes.
Good luck with it
All the best
Martin
PS: If would be great if you would post your mail on youtube as a comment exactly as you wrote it, then I'll post my answer and others may benefit from it too... thanx:0)

The picture is cheating a bit, they are actually wider than they seem. It's a Deagan vibraphone. It has graduated bars like the musser vibes, but a bit slimmer.
They are Mallettech Mallets - the David Friedman model. They are rather heavy, but can play soft with a lot of tone and still produce som bite when played harder. Also the yarn last for ever... I think I've had theese mallets for a decade now:0)
Martin, you are my new favorite vibraphone player! This solo completely captured me; I love the melody and the sound is so wonderful. I just had to check out your trio as well, and I can say that I've been listening to it on repeat the past fews nights. Thanks for the music!
I'm from Austria and my english is not very good but I hope you can help me... The song "So you Say" is wonderful... congratulation for this song martin fabricius... I like to learn the song myself but where can I get the notes from this song? Is there an official page where I can order them? Please help me...?
Oh my Goodness. Extremely fine playing. I play Bass and Piano. Classical background and now Jazz for the most part. Melody has always been my way of expressing and relating to fellow musicians and audience. To me, everything emanates from there; and your sense of Melody is impeccable!
If you feel like it, check out my first CD "When Sharks Bite" wich was released 2 weeks ago. Melody is a key element on it. I've included lead sheets for all the songs on the CD as bonus material...
All the best and thanks again for your kind words.
This piece was is written as a lead sheet. Melody with chords. One of these days I'm gonna write it all out:0)
I would only use two treble clefs if the two hands where doing very separate things, but often the left hand helps out the right playing a melody or counter line and the the two clefs gets really unpractical.... continues....
.....continued... Therefor I would prefer a single treble clef with stems up for the right hand and stems down for the left. I would definitely use pedal markings buy also the "X" after notes that are to be dampen with the mallet while the pedal is down...
I hope this answer your question and thanks for the kind words above:0)
Do I Recognize this from Ratatouille. Love this song.

Wow, amazing job. Are the bars really that small? D: Or do they look smaller than they are?
That's awesome; vibes are the only mallet instrument I haven't played, and I could never make them sound that pretty. :)

Oh my Goodness. Extremely fine playing. I play Bass and Piano. Classical background and now Jazz for the most part. Melody has always been my way of expressing and relating to fellow musicians and audience. To me, everything emanates from there; and your sense of Melody is impeccable!

Thanx!!!
If you feel like it, check out my first CD "When Sharks Bite" wich was released 2 weeks ago. Melody is a key element on it. I've included lead sheets for all the songs on the CD as bonus material...
All the best and thanks again for your kind words.

do you write vibraphone parts the same as piano parts, ie two clefs and pedal markings?
tyap006 3 years ago
This piece was is written as a lead sheet. Melody with chords. One of these days I'm gonna write it all out:0)
I would only use two treble clefs if the two hands where doing very separate things, but often the left hand helps out the right playing a melody or counter line and the the two clefs gets really unpractical.... continues....
martinfabricius 3 years ago
.....continued... Therefor I would prefer a single treble clef with stems up for the right hand and stems down for the left. I would definitely use pedal markings buy also the "X" after notes that are to be dampen with the mallet while the pedal is down...
I hope this answer your question and thanks for the kind words above:0)
