i saw Marianne 2 times in thessaloniki , very true , amazing perfomance as i imagine from my child years...kisses and greetings from Greece to a beautiful human and woman !!!
Didn't grow up in the era of Marianne Faithfull, but I know her story. She is one of the true survivors in the industry and I am glad that God blessed her with a second chance. Keep doing your thing ma'am.
reminds me a lot of Jennifer Warnes singing that song written by Leonard Cohen...even some of the tempo and notes....way too good to listen to sitting at a computer monitor thats for sure
One of the most beautiful Singers,God had created*When i first heard her recording,i said to myself,"This is the ultimate sound i had been waiting to hear".
"Original Sounds Coming From Her Heart within".. Al Sayee
Well she was a Shakespearean Actress before she got involved with drugs and Mick Jagger! I thing those two things ruined a brilliant career. The lady could act!
I've seen her live in the late 80s... Very powerful and very sad at the same time... She was chain smoking and coughing and lighting another cigarette from the butt and smoking and coughing non stop... I taught she was gonna die on stage... I love her.
she had a harrowing past so i think her songs are very meaningful, i'd say she was very selective about her choices. first heard her when i was about 14. love her ever since!
certainlyt he best of marianne she was an Angel in as tears go by and come back as a fighter,, after her big down she comes back stronger than ever,, she is and will stay a woderful women I like her new voice pur rock and roll
@Homoholic I know what you mean. It's sad that a few years of drug abuse, cigarettes, and alcohol can change such a beautiful voice so drastically. It's almost as if she lost the immaculate vocal control she had back in the day.
stratosphäre in den späten 70 und frühen 80 in oberhausen....was für ein laden und dann diese musik.nichts ist für immer und was dir bleibt ist die erinnerung.
there is never going to be another artist like marianne faithfull. i just saw her at ucla and she was AMAZING! i too was a terrible heroin addict and i read her autobio and decided too to seek help. her voice is like she said every whiskey she has drunk, drug she has taken and we all know miss faithfull with her trade mark cigarette. thanks for posting this. i wanna she her snl performance. hughug,e.
Having seen and heard her sing `As Tears Go By' in an ingenuous voice in 1964, it was a shock to hear this 15 years later. With Blondie's `Heart of Glass' it made New Wave' acceptabe in a then Disco-dominated market.
This version differs from the 12" single but just as good.
I remember when I first discovered her..I thought wow! What passion...I love her. And then I learned what she had gone through. What a great survivor!

You would have to have grown up during the time of Marianne Faithful and others to really appreciate her. What great days and times those were.

She sounds like a constipated muppet, what's so good about that voice?
NRock2404 6 months ago
@NRock2404 Hahahaha.. that analogy made me laugh. She has a sound that people either love or hate. I personally love her but each to their own.

So did I ! She sounded (and looked) so incredibly lovely when she sang 'As Tears Go By' in 1965. Then again, most of us looked better 15 years ago.
This is a great song, though...
