  • Well done Dave..as we see evidenced here its more difficult to phrase notes with major emotional impact than to blaze through patterns mindlessley, and for the record, this didn't sound like Satriani's playing in the least, it sounded like Walliman in his own style doing a Satch composition..Its much more difficult to emulate quirky, slightly sloppy players than it is to copy clean ''machinelike'' players because of phrasing nuance..Try sounding like early van Halen..lots of luck with that

  • @MichaelsPortraits Thanks man! I completely agree with what you said about imitating sloppy players. It is very hard!!!

  • @Wallimann What is compelling is that what some call sloppy, others call style , the idiosyncrasies that make us all diffrent, vibrato, pick attack , sliding into licks , The way Jeff Beck bends strings with a slight atonality ,Hendrix's slippery hybrid lead rythm phrasing , Vai and his wild vibrato bar antics ..Its all a mess but its beautiful ,When did Playing through a scale cleanly with evenly spaced notes become interesting...to who ? ...and the machines took over...Terminator17

  • COOL !!

  • Awesum!

  • @MettwurstLP Thanks!

  • Nice sound,but very sterile.

  • @expressyourselfist I tried... :-)

  • awesome sound dude, what are you using? could listen to this all day....

  • @Grazk Thanks a lot! I'm using an Eleven Rack.

  • Excellent Job Wallimann!!...You play wonderfully!

  • @blukper Thanks a lot man! :-)

  • Gawd this song is lame, really really good melodics and everything, but where is the tension, the realease and so???

  • @ChromX5

Where's YOUR video? No really, you have something that is better than this? Show it!

  • @IAMCORNDOG123456 You dont need to offend me, i'm not a joe satriani and i could not write something soo icredible, but its just my opinion , i just think this song would have more potential if it would build tension and than realease. Know what i mean?

  • VERY VERY NICE JOB!!!!

  • @MegaMoose777 Thanks a lot!

  • What effect are you using on this guitar

  • @TedBluesea I can't remember exactly, distortion, reverb and delay mostly.. It's all from the Eleven Rack.

  • Wow, great playing, but such thin tone! It bugs me a little bit actually, lead work like that deserves a much fuller sound than this

  • @hillbillygenius72 Thanks! I would love to get better at tone for sure!

  • @Wallimann try adding more low end or mids, it sounds very treble-heavy, don't decrease the treble though, just boost the mids and bass.

  • @hillbillygenius72 Thanks a lot for this!

  • Those bends and that vibrato, I want them.

    Amazing, just amazing :)

  • @joaoalex Thanks!

  • all i can say is that was excellent! ive covered this song myself but im afraid i cant do satch the justice he deserves. but u nailed it bro. i can feel exactly what youre playing. n i think thats what satch would want. well done bro

  • @evhfanatic112 Thank you so much!!!

  • Just something I'm hearing, it doesn't sound like there's anything under the notes, no depth, no bass feel. I realize the obvious, it's very high pitched, but when I listen to Satriani, it sounds... Satchurated lol. I think that's the only thing you're missing. Otherwise, incredible job.

  • @EsreverEmordnilap Thanks a lot!

  • this song gave me a hard time when I started to learn it and I stil think I don't get it totally right... When my guitar teacher gave me this song to learn I was like "that's easy.. it' slow all the way through".. but to get the interpretation right took me a while.. otherwise it sounds very empty due to the space between the notes

  • That made me happy THANKS!

  • @smokedtires Thanks for watching!

  • OMG...now your talking! Joe Satriani, my guitar hero of all times! This is an excellent cover by the way, you certainly nailed that "tenderness" quality that gives this song its signature sound! Love to hear some other Satch cover tunes some day! I have learned like 3 songs by the Satch: Baroque, Tears in The Rain, and Midnight but I would love to learn a more technical one like this!

  • @guitarguy316 Thank you!

  • MY VIDEO GUITAR LESSON PART 4 CAN HELP YOU WITH THIS SONG ! HAVE FUN !

  • where does one find backing tracks?

  • @joelg125 For known songs, they are a bit dispersed online..

    For jam tracks, guitarplaybackdotcom. :-D

  • WOW!! very good. It's always hard to put real feeling into songs like this, but you definately nailed it!

  • @SRVdeluxe Thanks so much!

  • it's not corret 100% but very good job..:)

this song is very very difficoult....

  • @exatone Thanks! Yeah, I just improvised really...

  • Hey do a cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps the Toto version sometime

  • @mjones53 Good idea! :-)

  • Awesome thanks man, I need all the help I can get

  • Hey just ordered the 11r, can you send me that patch and others that you use?

  • @mjones53 Hi man, congrats!

You can get all my patches on elevenrackpresetdotcom :-)

  • AWESOME JOB!, how do you think the Eleven Rack would sound just going straight to a couple M-Audio BX8a's

  • @mjones53 Thanks!

    It should sound great!!!

  • Awesome dude, minimized for a bit and forgot I wasn't listen to Joe himself.

  • @jjjmethosjjj Hey thanks a lot man! :-)

  • 4 people are jealous...

  • This. is. too. awesome. wallimann, you're the best :D satriani's my favourite artist... ever

  • @TommittajaFIN Thanks man!

    I love Satch too!

  • @Wallimann

yeah, but hey! you were in the NAMM, right? i was just wondering... how do you get there? do you have to have just _something_ to do in the industry, or do you have to be a big shot? i'd just like to be there atleast once in my life :PP

  • @TommittajaFIN Yeah, I was.

You need to be in the industry. But, you can easily get passes from music stores if you ask them nicely. Not all of them, but you might be lucky. :-)

  • @Wallimann

mm... sooo. how deep in the industry? i mean, because i live in finland, i don't think many stores have those passes :P

does it equal if i had my own registered indie label? or would i just have to be singed like... i dunno, on EPIC or something huge like that?

  • @TommittajaFIN Well, the stores don't necessary have the physical passes. You need to find a company that is registered with NAMM.

You could even contact a store in the States. Or email a guitar company asking them.

All they need to do is put you on their list so that when you go to the NAMM you will get your pass there...

  • @Wallimann

    ah, thanks :D

mmm... i might first wait until i ATLEAST get some money to travel to the USA :DD or to "get" into the industry :P

  • great wallimann! cool .

  • @Fabiano9798 Thanks Fabiano!

  • u got everything nice playin man... you the most perfect on this song

  • @pdod09 Thank you so much!

  • can u give me the backing track please..

  • @pdod09 I don't have it anymore, sorry! I just found it on Google...

  • ....."(^________^)".......i love cryin

  • How do u get that singing sustain? its like its very mild and not over agressive. how can i eq my distortion settings to get that sound?

  • @GuitarMusiq Hmmm.. Try to boost the mids a little bit maybe?

  • Great playing!

I thought that the 11rack sounds great, but then i got my axe-fx ultra and man this is the real deal.. tons of amps, cabs and effects and it sounds amazing! I never thought that there is a big step between the 11rack and the axe-fx, but it is..

I will do some vids of the axe-fx ultra, too..:D

    Cheers,

    Alex

  • @AlexCronex Awesome!!!!

I would love to hear your samples! I'm sure the Axe is amazing!!!

  • @Wallimann wow.. imagine if you had your pinky still...

  • @piccicacca Yeah, lol!

  • thank you for covering Joe's most beautiful track. Does this use lydian at all cus i know Joe Satriani's a massive fan of the lydian scale.

  • @IguanaKebab69 Thanks so much for listening!

Yeah, there is a Lydian section starting around 2:34

I love that mode too! :-)

  • Great playing, Wallimann. One of Joe's slow song but a very tricky one to play right. You did a great job! More Satch's song please.

  • @KooLaNgooT Thanks a lot!

Man, those bends were painful, thanks a lot!

  • Excellent ! Bravo !

  • @MyBluesySound Merci!

  • Man Dave those bends are dead on. Another lesson Idea, How to bend perfect everytime. lol

  • @DMachine999 Great idea man! :-)

  • @DMachine999 the trick to bending is just lots of careful practice.

  • The Eleven Rack is great, great job man!

  • @MrBlueEyes123 Thanks a lot man! :-)

  • @MrBlueEyes123 Thanks! :-)

  • Awesome stuff Wallimann! - dmvelzen

  • @daannmi Thanks man!

  • Epic job - probably the best I've ever heard :)

  • @ShredReviews Thanks a lot!

  • @Wallimann

No worries - you deserve it!

    (gief backing track.....;p )

  • @ShredReviews Check your Youtube Email :-)

  • @Wallimann

    You Sir, Rock :)

  • @ShredReviews :-)

  • Great choice of song to demonstrate some of Joe's trademark moves without it being a shred fest. The downward grace notes, the little legato runs to end phrases. You executed them all perfectally. Playing the actual notes should be playable by any intermediate player, but nailing all the articulations is another matter entirely. Great job.

  • @GreenGuitarNerd Thanks so much for your comment man, it means a lot!

    Thanks!

  • Really great feel to your playing.

  • @MYJANZ Thanks man!

  • I woke up this morning and thought "You know what? I think I'm a pretty decent guitar player these days". Then I happen to notice this video in my subscription updates and was reminded once again that I kinda suck. Well, more than kinda.... So now I'm off to right my new hit song Hopes Dashed By Walli.

  • @brainlesswonder Oh man, don't be so hard on yourself! :-)

  • When I hear Satriani...it always reminds me of Pilot Wings for the Nintendo 64.

  • @RoisteIsAinmDom Haven't played that one.. But I love Nintendo!! :-)

  • i think the best part of this vid is the fact that i can watch someone with the same tone as satch and covered it to the T. but the best thing is you dont have those hairy arms and bald head lol gotta love satch!!!!

  • @doeboyfresh863 Haha!

Thanks a lot for watching this and taking time to comment, it means a lot! :-)

  • If only i could play like that, perhaps in my dreams :)

  • @Wallimann

Been great man, busy as all get out but I still find time to follow you bro, keep it up and don't hesitate to poke your head back in over at GMC. Hope all is well with you!

  • @trailhaulin Great to hear from you man!

I wish I could hang out more at GMC, but they kind of banned me... :-/

  • @Wallimann They banned you? Oh man, that's hilarious!

  • @Darfuria Hehe! Yeah, I thought so too. Well, maybe not completely banned, but very heavily moderated. I posted a hello comment months ago and still hasn't been approved. :-)

  • @Wallimann how and why?? ur such a nice player :)

  • @LtdMusic Hehe!

    Thanks man!

Well, I used to work for that website, but when I quit and started working on other things they didn't want people to follow me I think. :-)

    No big deal really.. :-)

  • @Wallimann ah, ok and by the way, great playin there, sounded much like satriani :P

    please do more covers :)

    rock on!!!(!)

  • @LtdMusic Thanks bro!

  • @Wallimann Ah well, screw "them", I love the way I learn guitar from GMC, but it's kina over censored and stuff like that... You know what, I'll make a thread promoting this video and your video on Luna ;) I totally love this cover dude! I want to play it as well, but I think it's kinda hard.... There are a few fast sections :(

  • @kaznerov Oh thanks Kaz!

One thing I should specify is that I am not angry at the website at all.

I met some very cool friends there including you man! :-)

  • @Wallimann

Banned??? Your profile does not show that if so. Competition thing maybe?
