I've found that a large leaf of catnip can become a bit of a toy in and of itself. I gave my cat a two-inch wide leaf (homegrown, of course) and she started flailing at it. The sheer amount of energy it took her to break the leaf up ended up exhausting her for the day. That's a win-win scenario for me! :D

Grow some catnip if you aren't already, your cats will thank you. Much better fresh and just give them some. In bags it doesn't help cats have fun much.

@fairy4angel well both are Great cats, but they are vastly different. Although we love our Maine Coon to death, I will never get another. They shed entirely too much. He's easy going and somewhat playful, very mellow but not lazy.

With Bengals shedding is almost non existant. They are much more active than a Maine Coon, and require more input and attention from their humans.

If you can live with the grooming and shedding of the MC, then I think either cat would be a good fit.

@Missvivicide catnip makes some cats feel uncomfortable. I had a cat that loved it the first two times and then was like "uh no." and would avoid it.

There's a lot in shelters.

I would go there first before splurging on a cat.

That way, you're saving a life as well.

My Maine Coon is from a shelter.

@metalmusiclifex Every cat deserves a good and loving home. Whether they're from a cattery or a shelter. My Maine Coon lived in a cattery but wasn't too happy in that particular group and so I was lucky to get her :-) If -heaven forbid- the day comes when she's no longer with us, i'm thinking about getting both a MC and a cat from the local shelter. :-)

@metalmusiclifex My old cat Agatha (I don't have her anymore) was from a shelter. She was a day away from being put down because no one wanted her.

And the cat I have now, her name is Ichigo, and we got her from a shelter, too. I've never had such an affectionate cat. :)

I breed bengal cats, so the count varies, but I usually have 6 to 8 adults and various numbers of kittens. The Maine Coon is our pet.
