Budgie talking to reflection

My budgie plays with his own reflection but he is not agressive at all.He chats away and is very loveable with us

I had two budgies. One recently had to be put down. The other has been really messed up by it. He's hardly made a sound since. I tried putting a mirror in his cage, but he's completely oblivious. What should I do?

This is exactly what I want to say. A bird has no other choice. He needs an equal partner, because he's a very social animal - another budgie and not just a human. A human cannot be there all day and night. A human must also go to work, go to buy something, go to the hairdresser - but a budgie is 24 hours here for the other one.

Don't buy from local stores. Buy from breeders who hand feed them. Trust me.

You have to repeat the same words to them all the time when you're with them. Some budgies do not want to mimic words, though. My budgies would not speak, but I love them anyway.

A month is a very short time to have a bird. Did you get it from a pet store or a breeder? If its not hand tamed it will take months. Youll have to take it very slow. Sit by the cage and talk to it and offer it food. You need to gain its trust first.

I learned that female budgies are a little more difficult to tame than males. Finding the right partner for a female is a big challenge too, because females tend to bully males. This is a theory, however; so just anlyze your budgie's personality well before finding a suitible mate.

i had my green budgie for about a year and he is still a bit scared. just try to put ur hand in the cage once in awhile and talk to it calmly. Try it everytime but if it still clings on to the bars or flies away then give it a little more time. It is still young

Only tame budgies can become good talkers, so it is better to start with one 6-10 weeks old or so, even though they usually wont start talking until they're a bit older. Males usually talk better than females, but they are hard to tell apart at that age.

When a bugie feels lonely it starts learning to copy the noises around him. THAT IS NOT A GOOD SIGN but its even not THAT bad!

But in this situations never show the bird a mirror.

The bird isn`t able to realize that the budgie in the mirror is only himself. It will start to chatter with the mirror because itthinks its another budgie. This little guy is lonely. He wants to see some other bugies... one day he will die because of that.

Babies will have a pinkish to purplish cere (the skin around the nostrils). Babies will also have very dark eyes, and the stripes on the head will continue up onto the forehead. Usually from around 10 or 12 weeks on the stripes on the head recede until by 5 or 6 months there are no stripes forward of the eyes. Also around 5-6 months the irises will lighten in color and the cere will change (blue for boys, pink-brown for girls).

Start with a young budgie, tame it, and just spend time handling it and talking to it and it will probably pick up words (especially males). Some phrases we taught Pippin by repeating them over and over to him when he was paying attention. Some other things he has picked up on his own - just phrases he hears throughout the day. There are a few things he says that we just can't figure out where he learned them.
