this movie/book has been a formidable part of my emotional maturation process - and yes - i so agree - 'is fashion such a serious consideration?' - one of my favorite and most repeated qoutes of all time. i tear up every time. cheers.
Thank you for sharing your responses to Age of Innocence. Our mutual appreciation for Wharton's eloquent comment on fashion seems to have struck a similar cord in both of us. I wish you peace on your continued journey to emotional maturity.
I apologize for the 5-month delay in reply. I only today saw the comment.
I enjoyed this. The book/film has one of my favorite exchanges of all time: "Is fashion such a serious consideration?" "Only among those who have nothing more serious to consider." Truer today than even then.
This is an incredible movie, a true masterpiece. I rememeber it in the far 1993, I was really amazed by the gaze of Daniel Day Lewis, so ardent; but also Michelle Pfeiffer was great.
I loved the movie and then wanted to throw something through a window at the ending. What a munch! This movie started my love hate relationship with endings where they don't end up together.
I just returned from the middle east and that is where I saw this movie for the first time, but it was like retelling my life before I left home for the military. The music is perfect for this movie. Its captures everything this story wants to say.
Oh,this was a depressing ending. It made my heart crumble into a million pieces. He pursued her,was even willing to leave his wife for her and just when she was actually within his reach,he decides to walk away!!! Both the book and the movie made me cry. It's just so terribly heartbreaking. I just wanted to yell at him to get up there and have him and Ellen live happily ever after. O the cruel tricks of fate... :'(
very emotionally exhausting. I want a happy ending, but if I'm in the shoes of May Wells, I don't know what to feel. certainly I don't want anybody taking my husband away from me, if I still love him, if I dont then it would be a welcome bliss.
Life keeps me from my Destiny. Out of all the roads I traveled, why did mine cross hers? I am alone, but have been blessed to had tasted and shared the experiences of a life time with her, and now there is a bitter sweet aftertaste of memories. Beyond the reminiscences of life, this Destiny I will cherish the most. This movie too is a lot like mine. Love, no matter how painful, is the most beautiful thing in the world. How I love her with all that I am.
My name is Ellen. I am from Europe but live in America now. This story is the same as my own love story. I just really hope that we'll be together. I deeply hope that we won't have the same end of our love story like in this movie. We have to be together....
I have read all of these comments and I must say that I thought that I was the only one who had experienced this in my life, and I am sorry to hear about your situation. I hope everything turns out good and not like in the movie. Peace.
Oh my God...this made me speechless and breathless! So damn beautiful! I think Daniel Day-Lewis and Michelle are looking very good togehter...I just have to see the film! =)
Lewis and Pfeiffer make a breathtaking team and pack a powerful emotional punch and "Only Time" slid across their frames magically. A beautiful job, other mel. :)
This video is so good... The music and the movie is so haunting. Even though the time period was repressive to women , a viewer could'nt help but, wish to be alive during this time period. Newland and Countess Olenska should have been together!
I'm just starting book 2 of this most amazing love story. The video was very inspiring for me as a reader. It helped me put faces to the names. Thank you.
:D I'm glad to have been of service! The book is lovely isn't it? I'd say the film is very faithful to the book, oh poor Newland my heart breaks over and over again for him, I hope you enjoy the rest of the book!
Wonderful video! I love this movie. Sad indeed. He should have ditched Winona and left w/Michelle and lived happily ever after, but that would be a different film altogether!
A film of incomparable excellence, with a leading cast lead by the genius that is Daniel Day Lewis. At last Martin Scorsese won his overdue oscar, he could and should have got it for this. Great clip.
Oh yes i know :( but inspite of that it was a wonderful movie as well, one of my favourites :D Daniel Day-Lewis is of course quite dishy as well, bonus!
