  • I'm loving it!!! Great upload...one of my favorite tunes by Wayne Shorter...woo-hoo!

  • @cbmuzik Thanks for your comment!

  • this was a lot more helpful for soloing on this song than Shorter's. Thank you haha

  • @iplaybaritone I appreciate your comment.

  • You wouldn't happen to be able to do a segment on the intro of this song, would you? Your annotations are always great for big pictures, plus that intro is so ominous... it's more of the Fee Fi Fo Fum than the head is!

    Never stop recording.

  • Good job, A little too bright. This song gives off more of a dark vibe in the A section. Just my thoughts

  • Hey, thanks a lot for sharing!!! You're very talented. Your channel is my favourite piano site on youtube. Congratulations. Great job!!!!

  • @bygota I appreciate your comment, thanks!

  • Wouldn't it be cool if I could play this

  • It's easy to find good players, but near impossible to find someone who truly wants to share their knowledge and experience. It seems talented musicians fall into two categories: egotistical self-indulgent showoffs and passionate mentors who are willing to bring anyone and everyone along for the ride, it is quite obvious to everyone here which one you are. Good advice, and great playing.

  • @ajolsen4544 Your comment is greatly appreciated. To me, this music is so "life-affirming" I feel it essential to keep the spirit alive.

  • this! this right here is what its all about! relaxed swing feel, lines so good you can taste it, the works!

  • @pianonate86 This is one of my favorite tunes, does it show? ;-)

  • Are you a professional or is this just a hobby?

  • what a question! great.

  • hell yeah!!!!

  • Really great playing, man...thanks for posting.

  • I appreciate your comment.

    Joao

  • is ron carter playing bass on this backing track too?

  • Yes indeed. ;-)

  • Hi -

  • I guess it is.

  • Thank you!

  • so good!!!!!

  • How do you make these backing tracks?

  • This is outstanding!!! I've got so much more2learn than you.

  • I'm sitting here with the lead sheat and analysing your usage of stacked 4ths. I feel it's really helping me to find out some nice voicings.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you Greg.

    :-)

  • The bass player really swings, Who is this cat? The rhythn section really pushes the tune to a new level.

  • Thanks. Yeah, that's Ron Carter on bass.

  • Quality content on youtube? Who would have known! ;)

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • That C-Db on the beginning of the solo hit me like a mallet.

  • Thank you. ;-)

  • fantastic playing' Is it possible that you can show me when and how to apply those runs??They sound like they are being played in a minor key. I s that correct?? Looking forward to your reply tHANKS A lot Theo

  • Listen to the original by Wayne Shorter over and over - immerse yourself in each player's performance until you can sing each part note for note. Then apply your own musical vocabulary over the form of the song to construct a meaningful improvisation. Developing a musical vocabulary for me involves playing what I like to hear. If I can really hear it, then I can understand it and can figure-out how to play it. It won't make much sense trying to speak a language if you don't understand it first.

  • really excellent, bravo Roger! and thx

  • Nice one Roger! Fantastic playing! Swinging all the way! Some very tasty things! Always musical! I hope to post a few more - its been too long. I hope you are well and look forward to more of your posts! All the best! -Wayne

  • Thanks Wayne. Nice to hear from you!

  • Your observations about phrasing is very true. Keep swinging!

  • OMG!!! This is so beautiful!! Great mastery!! Great musicality and feel =) Cheers, keep it up =D

  • This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you!

  • Just My opinion, I think this version is better than the orginal!

  • hey man, this is a fantastic video. love your touch and the solo's great. just wondering what backing tracks you're using and where i can get my hands on them?

  • Very nice!! I love your videos.

  • too right re. musical time machine. i'm doing my uni finals dissertation on wayne shorter - what a dude (although i particularly love his more recent work). great solo there too!

  • This channel is the best jazz resource I've found so far on the internet for the piano. Please keep doing this! You rock! (are you a professional piano player or you do this just for fun?)

  • Fantastic. Great interpretation of a lovely tune.

I'd love to hear you do "Yes or No".

  • Fantastic playing - really enjoyed listening - thanks for posting

  • No need to say again my admiration.

    -

I went through the comments to see if anybody

    asked about the midi-keyboard.

Is this a special version of vanBasco

    or another software ?

    It's so clear

How do you add that ?

And thank for the beauty ♥

  • The MIDI keyboard was generated using a program written by PGMusic called PowerTracks Pro. It was resized for better visibility using the video editing program Adobe Premiere Elements.

  • WOW!

  • very good swing and feeling;thanks.

  • Great interpretation. Composed by a master, played by a master...

  • I really enjoyed this Roger - I find it such a difficult tune to convincingly improvise over as you do here, and I appreciated the advice you give in the 'About this video' above. The midi keys view is excellent with no 'drop -outs' - could you explain how you did this? What software?

  • Roger, I revisited this, and you are so on to something here. This is the fullest expression of your talent that I have heard, and that is saying something!

  • Swingin Roger! Great tune - a tune that I dont play enough of, and should probably play more.

  • Feel harmony and lines all spot on, excellent. I was trying to play this today and it is hard!

Speak no evil is one awesome album, I hope for some more tunes from it.

  • Yah man, I hear ya. I might pull a VVBGR and video response on this one. You should too! Roger, this is such a good tune. Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the album.

  • It's clear you have this tune in your bones. What is most interesting is that you have played in a different style than is usual for you. You use fatter notes further behind the beat with more space in between. This is really 'of the period'. Wow! This knocks me out, Roger.

  • Hey, Roger!

Great playing, as usual. Love the graphic visual effect as you push the keys. That is a definite way to help one to learn.

    Preston

  • Wonderful, great feel! Your vids are always sources of study for me, thanks!

  • Wow, This is Great, I love it.

Really Tastefully. This is one of my Favorite.

    AMAZING Work!

  • The phrasing AND the notes - all "interesting" :)

    Cool.

    Nice post!

  • Lots2Learn, you are a pros' pro. How can you be this good without playing ALL the time and making money at it.

  • Step into that time machine, I think your name might very well be on that record. And it still would be a favorite of mine.

  • Thanks knotty75.

  • Amazing swing feel! And you sure off your King-of-Outside as royally as ever =)

  • Thanks much for the comment.
