  • Every time I watch a MarloweDK video, I want to impale myself on my guitar cause I know i am nowhere good as him.

  • Good for solo perfomer, fingering practice.

  • this Bass is so f****** awesome!

  • to come a good bass player do you have to know all your scales?

  • @beattielol It is one of the essentials, yes. This goes for any instrument, especially if you intend to compose your own pieces.

  • Can't register to your site because those stupid "guess the numbers I'm trying to show you then guess the answer to this math problem I'm showing with a white font on a white background" never work.

Use a forum that checks your e-mail by sending a validation e-mail instead. Way less frustrating.

  • @Endureth Most people with this problem has forgotten to put a check mark in the "accept conditions" check box, but still got the "math" error

  • This is great! I feel like this is an easier way to learn my scales all over the board. (by focusing on two string at a time instead of E-G in one "position") Perhaps that is a flawed way of seeing it but I honestly feel I can memorize this easier. I'm going to work on this starting with D/G, A/D then E/A and try to put them all together.

Your videos ROCK!!! Keep them coming!

  • damn, some comments here are offensive.. i gues marlowe got all the info right... but i guess mr. riseandshine didnt read.. :P but any way... thnx for the info marlowe! very helpful stuff u post.. :D

  • @saphero17 Lol, no my friend, im playing the 5 note scale in 4 note patterns, count the different notes

  • @saphero17 It was divided up into 4's instead. That's perfectly legal.

  • @saphero17 owned, loser.

  • Very simple and nice exercise...thanks :)

  • Dunno why people with no skill have to post crap comments, MarloweDK knows what he's doing.

  • hell yeah thats the kind of stuff i need, things i can play faster without thinking about it thanks brotha!

  • ahh Amazing :)

  • yeah man, that rick, is actually a fender j bass. close but no cigar

  • @faQ666666666666 He's saying he loves his rick he has.... as in the other bass he has which is a rick. Idiot.

  • @HyphyG123- suck my dick bitchnigga.

  • he is using quater notes and half notes

  • Best bass you got, love the Rickenbacker too. Keep up the good work!

  • That is a gorgeous bass... what tone. Beautiful!

  • not bad

  • Thanks! A nice, modal exercise to keep 16th notes clean.

  • is this a really good exercise to improve bass skills?

  • To play it quickly and cleanly like the video you have to have bass skills. So practicing this exercise will definitely improve your skills. Then you can do it in different keys. Then see if you can play it on three stings or four strings without changing positions. Oh yeah, it's a really good exercise.

  • Note in the tab below than 17 14 is the same as 5 2 on the same string except that 17 14 is an octave higher. (eg. On the G string fret 17 is C and so is fret 5, fret 14 is A and so is fret 2.)

  • This is the tab(slow part he does) 14 12(G string) 14 12(D sting); 12 9(G string) 12 10 (D string) 9 7 (G string) 10 7(D string) 7 5 (G string) 7 5(D string) 5 2 (G string) 525(D string) 2(G string) 17 14(G string) 17 14(D string) 14 12(G string) 14 12(D string) 12 9(G string) 12 10(D string) 9 7(G string) 10 7(D string) 7 5 (G string) 757(D string) 5(G string)
  • Awesome bass and bassist :)

  • can you give me the tabliture for this

  • just watch what he's playing.

  • Visit the site... did you see the popup at the beginning?

  • nice bass

  • run away with me...

  • It depends on where you want to go with each instrument.

  • bass got bigger strings and the frest are wider, but most Rock song on bass are very easy on bass and more difficult on gutiar, so i depends on which genre and what you want to play ;)

  • That's because in some bands the guitar players pick a bassist who does not overshadow their talent, and therefore just plays basic doom-doom-doom Bass guitar. Yet there are plenty of bands where the bassist is hands down the best musicians, without necessarily overshadowing the other guys' talent. Rush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Level 42 come to mind.

  • although geddy is freaking amazing bassist Neil Peart is the best member of Rush. Rush is altogether great. Bass and Drums holding it down.

  • Yes you are right, Neil Peart rocks, although I wonder if he does not need anything added to his kit, gee how does he even get in?

  • Well I couldn't se4e what he was playing so I had to work it out from ear! So I'm not alone.

    Just come with practice

  • I have no problem seeing what frets he's hitting :S riseandshine1804, you should put on your glasses and if that doesnt work maybe you could try listening to what hes playing instead of just watching.

  • what year is that j bass?

  • ... around with different scales

  • thanks a lot man! always fun to play

  • this is handy. I'll look for more of your stuff.

  • What year is that Jbass?

  • OK accepting that I'm completely wrong and you lot are completely right and for that I completely apologise, is the pattern GABDEG for G Major? I can't be arsed to work it out for Am but it'll be the same pattern anyway.

  • Just a little help, i know how you mean you can't see the notes being played, but a great little tip is to try and match the notes listening by ear, it takes some time to do and can be frustrating, but it's a great skill to learn! All the best :)

  • And you did not see the big sign with "download the tab & standard notation" in the start of the video either?

  • Look, I don't think that Thomas is showing off or being a "prat" here. This exercise is quite easy; most of my students would be able to do it. If you can't, then you may be trying to play beyond your level, in which case I would recommend trying some easier exercises first until you have the experience to try it.

However, if you do decide to give it another shot, be diligent and keep listening to find the right notes. Use your ear! It will be very rewarding for you when you figure it out! :)

  • The reference to being a prat was in response to the remark about not knowing how to pause and rewind a video. If you make sarcastic comments then expect a reaction. You always have the option not to make them. With regards the listening to the notes, it sounds like AGE EDA GA to me which isn't a pentatonic scale. I'm was a self taught bass player many years ago and I've decided to take it up again and learn some of the music theory. The exercises aren't difficult once you know what they are!

  • The pentatonic scale is 5 note scale , in this instance the A minor pentatonic scale (A C D E G): The notes you hear are in the scale, you apparently missed the C , but got the A D E G right. Go to studybassDOTcomlessons/bass-scales/one-octave-minor-pentatonic-scale/ for an throughout beginner explantion of this

  • Got it. Thanks.

  • @riseandshine1804 how old are you? eye for an eye doesent cut it anymore mate. 50 year old has been with no life than to argue over a video on the internet...

  • @riseandshine1804 I know this comment is a year old but that realy makes mad when people like you say things like that.. you dont have to see his fingers to tell what he's doing.. LISTEN.. he shoud'nt have to tell you the notes......and any music you can hear is a lesson.. dont be a fool and be lazzy.....DO the work and recreate what you hear and you WILL LEARN !!!

  • @riseandshine1804 Hey, a bass lesson doesn't have to be so detailed. If you're a beginner who doesn't know a thing, then go to a lesson which are teaching you what notes are played at which fret. But if you want to learn how to improvise, and look for useful exercises, this is a great video. Read the title, A minor pentatonic exercise. And MarloweDK's lessons are way better than most lessons out there on youtube. Many people benefit from them, so if you don't like it, then don't watch them.

  • No in any way offended , But : You did not see the video to the and watched the slow version i guess?

And you do not know how to pause and rewind a video?

  • I didn't watch the video to the end, but I did pause and rewinfd it many, many times before giving up trying to see which finger was pressing which note. Could you post the notes you are playing?

  • "I didn't watch the video to the end"! I rest my case...

  • Yes! That and people wanting to show up making criticism to a work they didn't even bother to pay attention to! >:(

This is an excellent exercise and if you're a bass player you should watch the video 'till the end. I'm shure you'd have a couple of things to take home from Marlowe's lessons!

  • nice bass

  • I sorta can't understant how can you give an opinion not knowing that this is a bass, not a guitar. Obviously you can't play a shit, so you're just a moron. And this is a lesson, useful for some people.

  • Use your ears man!

  • Thank you sir:)

  • a dream bass teacher you are. We should all go live in a tent in Copenhagen !!!!

  • Thanks DK!

  • I am so jelous of your bass mate.

    And GREAT exersizes, thank you!

  • Is that just a jazzbass?

  • Yes, but he inside is hollowed out and filled with feathers.

  • and the pickups are made of chocolate

  • i just started playing the bass not to long ago but how do you tell what notes hes playing,do you just do it by ear? i cant play by ear that good

  • It takes practice and learning the fretboard as well as ear training. One way to train your ears is to just turn on the radio and try to work out bass lines. Don't worry about not getting every single note. A radio works better than just playing mp3s because it keeps you on your toes. Who knows? Maybe that song you hated has a really cool line, too. Just take it slow and keep at it every day and eventually things will become second nature.

  • I love when you play on this bass. Sweet tone.

  • hola marlowe, sigo tus lecciones man. seguro aprenderé lo que quiero, quería preguntarte si un dolor en el codo será por practicar el doublethum

  • thx, already tryed, sounds great!

  • very very good this sistem to explication with "slow motion" . is easy to learn. no tabs ever ! thanks, Marlowe, God bless you !!

  • I love exercises like these, I can't remember playing any specific song/riff, all I'm doing is these :D

    KEEP POSTING THEM! :P
