  • Why is it when you see old fotage of something it's always mainly old people you see in it? Maybe they felt safe them days to "hang around" street corners. Anyway great nostalgia.

  • Fantastic stuff! I am a resident of kings heath and find this facinating.

  • BRILLIANT! lived in kings heath most of my life :)

  • Great video, love it.

  • nah us school kids know it s smokers corner

  • I would like to hear from anyone who remembers Adrian Cottages and Hoddesdon Place. Lost locations off High Street - now part of Somerfield car park.

  • I remember both. The access to Adrian Cottages ran alongside the wallpaper shop called "Decorwall". The access to Hoddesdon Place was between "Hughleys" the cake shop and " Barrs" the butchers. Hoddesdon Place was a group of approx 15 houses some if not all sharing toilet blocks. The back yards of these houses faced onto the rear of the back yards of Adrian Cottages, with a drop of 5ft between. As far as I can remember these were the subject of a compulsory purchase order in the 1960's.

  • @9teen48 hi there-my dad-john Pratt grew up at adrian cottages. i believe a couple of the cottages were owned by his uncle -Harry wright (or could have been jack or aurthur-the other 2 brothers)-did you live there at all?

    regards

Hi Tanya, thanks for the comment. My grandparents and my mother lived at No. 4 Adrian Cottages in the 1930s. I remember the place from the 1950s/60s. Will email you more info.

  • wow, i say it looks a tip now in comparison. I guess im not the modern type even being so young id rather it looked more like this then what it is now. I also miss the individuality too of all them specialist shops that have been wiped out by the likes of supermarkets!!
