The Boys of Summer. One of the greatest teams to, collectively, take the field of play. Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Ree, Gil Hodges, Carl Furillo, Don Newcombe, Carl Erskine, Johnny Podres. The fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers, from the late 1940's thru 1957, shared a love affair with the Dodgers and although I was not there ~ I would have given absolutely anything to have been a part of that experience. When they left it took the very soul from the borough of Brooklyn.
Yes, it was a sad day for old Dodger fans, and baseball fans in general. You won't find many like him today in the big leagues. He was a real classy guy.
I'm not trying to be rude or anything but why do people call athletes "heroes", they're not. A firefighter, or police man - they're heroes, athletes don't do anythin that is heroic but hit a ball with a stick, or throw a ball into a hoop.
Gil Hodges, First Baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers, was a hero. He won a Bronze Star in World War II in battle in Okinawa. Later when he was manager of the Washington Senators he was called by police to talk Ryne Duran, a baseball player, down from a bridge in Washington DC where Ryne was going to jump and commit suicide. Gil Hodges saved Ryne's life. Gil never talked about either of these two things because he was a quiet modest man. Ryne talked about the incident in his autobiography.
@DAPIRATEGIRL I would not call any present athlete a hero (though the word from Greek kind of means that athlos) but times were different and you had to be there I think --it really was something very special in sports and in American History.
Great song, thank you! Mt team my team, yes I rememebr, I stayed home sic to watch the series, ops, did i say that? jajajaja don't worry I finished school.
it suck that the dodgers left but until mlb get rid of the la dodgers broklyn will just have to put up with the mets bring back the dodgers and bring back the new york giants.
Hey, Understand the COLD FACTS. There are no "Brooklyn Dodgers". The Brooklyn Dodgers don't exist. Keep that in mind. "Absorb that hard fact." Mr. Robert Moses "screwed" Brooklyn years ago. Too Bad. Brooklyn isn't a Major league Baseball town. "GET IT". Go see "THE METS".

Too Bad Brooklyn. You had Robert Wagner as your Mayor Of the City Of New York. Robert Moses was the true villan who took your Dodgers away from you. Don't blame Walter O' Malley. Moses just didn't see "The Dodgers" in his plans for the future of Brooklyn in those days. Sorry Brooklyn, "The Dodgers" will always belong to "Los Angeles". There is no room for "Brooklyn." Take the issue up today with "City Hall".
Always Remember, Robert Moses took away the "Brooklyn Dodgers" Baseball from Brooklyn. Robert Moses & Former Mayor Robert Wagner were solely responsible for getting rid of Dodger Baseball in Brooklyn. Don't blame Walter O' Malley. Walyter O' Malley is in Baseball's "Hall Of Fame".
The Dodgers are laughing at Brooklyn and the City Of New York. The Dodgers live in Los Angeles. The City Of new York Government screwed Brooklyn: Mr. Robert Moses, and Former Mayor Robert Wagner. Wagner was a looser. Now he pulled Brooklyn down to be forever the "Loosing Idiot". You will never get "The Dodgers" again. Go watch THE METS. Support The Mets.
GO SEE THE METS. The "Brooklyn Dodgers" don't exist. There is no such thing as "Brooklyn Dodgers". Send your complaint to "City Hall". Let them kno how dumb they were to allow "The Dodgers" to leave Brooklyn. Robert MOSES & Former Mayor Robert Wagner plainly told "The Dodgers" to get lost. Now Brooklyn, You're paying for it. The BMT Lexington Avenue Elevated Subway Line was demolished in 1950. The Dodgers are long gone. The Dodgers quit Brooklyn in October 1957. Sorry, Brooklyn is a looser.
hey im doin a research paper on the brooklyn dodgers : the relationship between the team and the fans. if any of you are willing to give me any information or maybe let me interview you i would greatly appreciate it. thnx
Look Brooklyn, Face It. The Dodgers divorced you. The Dodgers are no longer part of you, and Brooklyn, You are no longer part of them.
You don't have the Dodgers, and you will never have them back. Robert Moses, New York City Official, "pop" your bubble. Moses just didn't see Brooklyn worth it to keep the Dodgers. So Brooklyn, blame and think about Former Mayor Robert Wagner. Brooklyn, You're a big looser. "Too Bad".
New York city Politics doomed Brooklyn Professional Baseball. Forget About It Brooklyn. You will never get the Dodgers Back. Focus your attention on "The Mets". Your Mayor, Robert Wagner & City Developer Robert Moses screwed you Brooklyn. Don't blame Walter O'Malley. You lost your team Brooklyn. You are forever a looser. "Get Over It".
Turn your attention to "The Mets". The City Of New york Politians didn't want the Dodgers to stay. Blame Mayor Wagner & Robert Moses. Brooklyn is a forever Looser.

@kittiesarebest Yes, that's great. But it does not make him a hero. Did his baseball skill ever save anyones life? Nope.

@gfscarface13 Wow. You must have some serious self confidence issues to call someone you don't even know a slut. I feel bad for people like you.
and if it really was "just sports" than there would be no need for you to get so upset by it, and call me names.
