Aww cute im not a bird person but i understand the affection you can feel towards to your animals especially when they are with you for so long. I still miss my oscar (maine coon cat) and its been 3 years. I dont think the pain ever goes away. But it helps to know how much you made there life better (any animal) just by caring and loving for them. I hope you have lots of love and a long happy life with your others. Take care!
Oh My God, They were loving that! I love the Macaws, beautiful bread! We have an African Grey and she will play in the water if we splash her but won't go near running water... Too Cute!
Oh. (just read description) My condolences for your loss. May Raja fly free over the rainbow with all of the other feathered angels. I volunteer for a parrot rescue and sanctuary here in Ohio. I see many sad stories. We have birds come in so abused that their will is completely broken. And no matter how much I try to prepare myself for it, every time one of them passes on I can't help but feel a deep sadness followed by overwhelming anger towards the people who did these things to them.
@mattxr2i Bless you for being in rescue. It breaks my heart and I pray I outlive my birds (but not likely). I don't want them in a sanctuary or rescue situation. You are very special to volunteer your time...especially since you have birds of your own. I saw the video of the blue and gold talking and talking. Sweet. Raja has been gone 5 years now. As sad as it is, I would rather loose them to sudden death and no pain than leaving them to chance when I die.
@mattxr2i This is true. I never want to see my birds end up that way and you really cannot plan 50 or 60 years ahead. Even if you find a wonderful home for them, there are no guarantees they will live there the rest of their life. Any bird can end up in horrific conditions at some point after you pass on. Worries me 24/7. By the way, I have 2 greys and you would not see them doing this either. : )
@SurroundedByMorons01 Humans live anywhere from 2 yrs old to 100 yrs old. If they die at 10 yrs old, does that mean their mom and dad neglected them? Get real! Raja had the best life he could possible have and the best food. He was very much loved and cared for. He died from an aneurysm which can happen to anyone. If you can't say something nice, don't even come here. How rude to say that.
@kimthefamedactress - thanks, Kim. Raja was young for a parrot. Problem is he had a medical problem. In captivity they can live 80 years but usually not in the wild. I know how to take care of birds and I love them very much. I appreciate your comment. Some people just don't have a heart at all. We were hurt by his passing. We loved him so much.
@MegaSINCITY702 I agree with you 100% - These birds unfortunately were domestically raised and would not survive outside under any circumstances. All they have had since hatching is humans. It is very sad. They used to import birds illegally by the hundreds and there is still a terrible assault on wild birds. When people started raising them domestically, they thought it would stop this cruel trade (high percentage dead on arrival and shipped in crates and inhumane conditions).
@iGoldhackez Nope - American - just used the word. He was a Prince. Someone I knew at the time named him. I doubt I would have chosen that name. Not sure what I would have named him. : )
So sorry for your loss. I have a video of my dog that I'd love to post, but it's still waiting to be converted so I can post it. Your birds are gorgeous. I've always wanted a scarlet myself. But I'm a little intimidated, seems they can be really high maintenance.
@yyoveltube - Hurt them? No - they loved every minute of it. Bird all need moisture and baths or spritzing if they are not outside in the rain. These birds are in the rain forest in the wild. They need to have water for good feather condition.
@yyoveltube They were actually squealing with delight. I didn't know either until I started keeping birds. You learn as you go. Good to research before you get birds though. There is a lot to learn and it is a lifetime commitment. Some of these guys live to be 80 years old or more.
@yyoveltube I'm sure there are others - of the ones I have, I know the amazons and macaws and cockatoos have been said to live 80-100 years. The african greys, 60-70 years and the smaller parrots 40-50 years.
Poor Raja :( It's nice that Raja had a good time before he passed on. They look like they are really enjoying their bath. Beautiful birds and so cute!!
@ukiuki551 Raja is the one with his head under the faucet. Rio is on the right. Raja was a male and Rio is a female - she is smaller than Raja was. They were always in separate cages and not for breeding.
@doom2548 ...one bird or two birds not a huge problem but it does take a lifetime commitment. You can't just buy them on impulse and expect it to be as easy as another pet (cat, dog or whatever). It takes patience and working with them and out of cage time so that they are socialized and happy. They should have fresh veggies and fruit every day and lots of other support as far as vet expenses, regular check-ups, etc. They shouldn't be left alone for long hours without supervision.
This is a good size for a macaw. You also would need a bird stand because it would spend time out of the cage on the stand - also must have lots of toys - they chew. @ginnylrunyan they do i have a permit for a clawed frog and it's 10 bucks a year and for exotic birds 20 bucks a year (new jersey). and how old was raja when he moved on?
@mikeydude319 Raja was 10 yrs old. He was a healthy bouncing boy - large and very healthy, regular vet visits, etc. I still have Rio. She is 12 years old.

After viewing this video and reading a few comments makes me wonder.
How are the parrots now as I see someone said that Raja sadly died?
I have a parrot but mine is an African Grey I think all parrots and any sort of birds really are nice pets. Another favorite animal is an elephant but then again parrots are more affordable yet vary in ways.
@MusicanoftheFuture - Raja died from an aneurysm.. It was sudden death - instant death - hemorrhage. He was on my arm and fell to the floor. The vet that did the necropsy said he was dead before he ever went to the floor. He was flapping his wings and stayed on the floor with his wings out. I called out and reached down to pick him up and blood poured out of his beak. Loved this big boisterous guy. I still have Rio. RIP Raja - we all miss our big boy. We have african greys as well.
@StrawBerriesForMi They do not like it when the water is deep - they only like the faucet and splashing water. Raja is the one who dunked his head under and would have been more receptive to maybe swimming. I don't know for sure - he passed over the rainbow in 2007. Rio wasn't as enthusiastic and she does not like it if the water is over an inch deep.
@StrawBerriesForMi Yes, there is a new movie out named "RIO" about parrots. I got Rio as a baby many years ago and someone had already named her. She is eleven years old now.
My little never liked water, he was always still and waited to get it over with but he loved snuggling in his towel afterwards and then I used to keep him warm underneeth my bra... He liked that. :)
it's funny how different birds prefer what; i had a double yellow-headed amazon parrot and he absolutely hated baths. he would go to the far end of the tub and try and climb out the sides
they were so happy!!

We have african greys as well.

lilutena 10 months ago
@lilutena And they love water XD but why didn't they plug the hole up :( They would be learning how to swim by now :P
StrawBerriesForMi 10 months ago
@StrawBerriesForMi They do not like it when the water is deep - they only like the faucet and splashing water. Raja is the one who dunked his head under and would have been more receptive to maybe swimming. I don't know for sure - he passed over the rainbow in 2007. Rio wasn't as enthusiastic and she does not like it if the water is over an inch deep.
ginnylrunyan 10 months ago
@StrawBerriesForMi Yes, there is a new movie out named "RIO" about parrots. I got Rio as a baby many years ago and someone had already named her. She is eleven years old now.

it's funny how different birds prefer what; i had a double yellow-headed amazon parrot and he absolutely hated baths. he would go to the far end of the tub and try and climb out the sides
