The biggest problem I have with this game is that I can pretty much only use browns because they are tough little shits. Maybe I'll use 3 blues as a medic team or something but I don't know if greens can fight too well and my reds are just monster fodder.
It's always nice to have a few of each type, in case you run into some barriers.
The greens are also best for ambushing enemies. I usually try to place them on a ledge so they can jump on enemies, use the reds to lure the enemy towards me, and then send the browns forwards to keep the enemy busy, before I finish with a "coup de grace": backstabbing from the greens.
Then I just send the blues to resurrect any fallen minions.

Minion Locations
Red Minions- Mellow Hills, halfling homes. In order to get the Red Minions, which shoot fireballs at your enemies, you have to kill the incredibly fat halfling hero, Melvin. The place where you get them isn't much of a dungeon, and it is the easiest of the three to complete.
Green Minions (assassins)- Evernight Forest. The Green minions' dungeon is annoying because of all of the poison that fills the whole place. When following the green's to their hive, be sure to watch for poison coming out of the walls, and for the poison plants.
Blue Minions (healers)- Heaven's Peak Swamp. In order to get the blue minions you have to have the green minions because the blue minion dungeon is guarded by poison plants.
And, in order to get to Heaven's Peak you have to have the red minions. The blue minion dungeon is probably the most annoying of all of the dungeons. The majority of the time spent in the dungeon is traveling back and forth trying to get different minion types to
accomplish different tasks. And of course, this is where the Boombo birds come in to the game. they are the most annoying enemy. Just remember when in the blue dungeon, try to bring as many of the other color minions as possible, because you will need the protection.

I think the best setup of my army is (having 30 spaces) 3 blues, 2 reds, 1 green, 24 browns.
3 blue for reviving, reds for getting through fire barricades and a green to destroy poison. And just lots of browns to kill enemies.

Got this when it first came out, REALLY fun first time through. I used browns fully geared as my elites and they rape everything lol

50 is max, if you have al the pillars and your helmet maxed out.
but you can get more with simple trainers if you want to.
