Is he using the 4" deep snare or the 5" one? In other words, I'm wondering if he's using the GoKit that runs for 'bout $840, or the more expensive kit (that comes with a rack).
@tlmseven Thanks for the comment. Satnam is using the 13"x4" that comes with all GoKit shell packs. The 13"x5" you speak of is from the Spotlight Special Edition which is an entirely different (albeit similar) kit. The GoKit is high-end, and the Spotlight Special Edition is entry level. Different shells, features, etc... FYI, GoKit is available without a rack.
Impressive. He's stellar. How do you like the AT3035's as the only mics on drums? Due to equipment limitations, I'll likely end up recording drums for a folk record with just a AT3035 as an overhead and a SM57 on kick...
@alexevans917 Thanks for commenting. They are okay, not my ideal choice...they're a little brittle sounding. Lately, I've been using the Audix F15's as overheads and I like them a lot more, but still not ideal. If I had my choice I'd be using some Sennheisser C414's =) with some really nice preamps...Maybe I can get the boss to invest in those next year. *fingers crossed*
@TayeDrumsHD AKG C414's? Haha yeah, if I could afford them... then I wouldn't have a 57 in the kick either haha. The Audix looks interesting though. I doubt it'd pick up much of the thump of the floor tom though... I may see what I can do with the AT3035, maybe boost some of the mids and hope having a good, well tuned kit (Gretsch New Classic Euro...although I shouldn't be saying that on a Taye video haha) makes up for somewhat lackluster mics and pre's....
Can you tell me how you are doing the roll I keep hearings. It sounds like a fast triplet roll, but can quite tell how you are pulling off, or the sticking.
PLEASE HELP!....I don't really know if i should change my resonant tom heads that came with my Taye Kit, I've been playing with them for 5 years now. What should i do to replace them or keep them on?.....
@atedj To be honest, if they look like they're in good condition just change the batter heads. If you're having trouble tuning them or if they don't sound very good, maybe you should consider changing them. I rarely change my resonant heads, but I know guys that change them when they change the batter. Personally, I don't think it's necessary.
@Tuberidin01 Thanks for the comment. It really depends on what sound you are going for. The choice of head is purely a subjective one. Look into the different head types offered out there and what features they have to produce the desired effect. The heads in this video are medium weight coated Dynaton Heads.
@colinchinsammy Thanks for the comment. Resonant is tuned higher in relation to the batter. I used this same snare on my band's record and it sounds just like the one in this video.
wow thanks so much for the insight. I am going to follow this tuning relationship advise for the snare ( not sure about that for the toms tho.. hmmm) I know experiment!!
That playing was awesome! You can hear/see the tabla influence too. Also, I can vouch for the sound of the GoKit bass drum when its miked up. Its the only thing I use in the studio now. It sits perfectly in the mix without EQ, letting the bass ride right below it. Mixing engineers must love them to pieces!
Satnam Ramgotra........never heard of him.........until now......Brilliant drumming great feel and the kit sounds great.

@TayeDrumsHD how about bottom heads? Are they stock Dynations or something different?

@Tuberidin01 Bottoms are light weight clear dynaton heads.
