  • yeah thats what i love about ths hobby. the one thing id like to add to my layout is the material underneath the track to muffel the sound a bit

  • @ogaugekevin1 The Homasote helps, also a layer of foam under the tracks. I noticed a difference when I added the grass; I used the carpeting used for putting greens. Another thing that will help is trucks, I like to use the metal trucks with the springs. Just make sure the springs are functional and not just placed in for looks, I've seen that before. Finally, if you are running freight, a nice realistic slower pace keeps the noise down too.

  • @01Mattman69 Thanks for the tips. I was thinking of puttinc corkboard underneath the tracks, and then some green felt. I'll post a video of how it is now, then one when its finished. one of my bridges is like yours so its kind of shaky. Maybe ill post something by friday

  • Hey this looks great! I have something like this on my backporch, but its not as big. I used 31 inch MTH track, but i dont have any crossings or signals yet. I'll be posting some videos of it soon.

  • @ogaugekevin1 Sounds cool, I'd like to see that. You will learn, once you start, it will never be completed. You will always find something you want to add, or change.

  • @01Mattman69 Thats what i love about model railroading is that it never ends. The one thing I would really like to add to my layout that you have is the green material underneath the track. I really need to muffel the sound on mine because when the train is running, you cant hear yourself think lol. It looks something like astroturf to me, but anyways it is something that i need to invest in.

  • If only someone can figure out a way so they wouldn't be so loud!

  • A layer of Homasote helps, but I didn't use any becuase this was a shelf layout...I should have anyway.

Live and learn, this is my first layout, everything else I had as a kid was just an 4x8 plywood table.

  • What lengths and radii does Fast Track come in? Any flex?

  • I've seen curves from O36 to O84, I use O72 curves and switches, but use an O36 1/4 curve section to bring the siding closer. Strait sections are from 1/4 in. to 30 in. No flex in the fastrack that I'm aware of. Keep watching, comming soon, I've got a couple of GP 9's pulling now and more scenery has been added.

  • hey col i have a shelf around my room to but i have ho scale what guage is this o

    ??

  • Yes, this is O Guage. I used Lionel Fastrack for the entire set up.

  • so how many locos and cars do u have? i have 4 locos and 27 cars but i havent done anything fancy yet yesterday i built a mill and i have a coal tipple with 1 mountain lol

  • So far I have 46 cars & 4 locos, saving up for a N&W Class A and later a couple of SD50's. All engines are powered, I'd rather have maximum power, because my cars are loaded. Just trying to keep it realistic.

  • yeah cool!! do u have any bc or cp rail? i love bc rail because im from bc but because its gone now im hoping for a job at cp rail

  • Sorry, no BC or CP, I only collect what I saw growing up in my hometown.

That consisted of N&W, Wabash, (because it was a N&W line) ICG, the occasional Santa Fe and BN.

  • thats cool for how much i love trains i really dont see any were i live but twice a day the dayliner goes thru and we have freight trains to but they are really short (5 or 6 cars)

  • Love ..it..Awesome action..

    thanks

  • Thanks! There will be more updates in the near future.
