I have to wear the Essix retainer for the first month, and I just got them today and HATE THEM. Mine has the roof of my mouth too, not just the teeth like yours and that reallllly bugs me. After this first month I can choose between these and the Hawley (wire) retainers, but I want to see if I can just get the clear, teeth only ones like yours. Thanks for the cleaning tips!

@mimistudios when you first get them on ya you do have a mini lisp/ mumble lol but after a little while you should get used to it.

@heri121 yeah your teeth are getting used to it and your gums are probably sore from the braces being token off soo its normal but if you think that its not just ask ur orthodontic

@xsuzannexfarrahx nope. they just like clip them off. you just feel pressure on your teeth and its really loud so i suggest you bring an IPod or MP3 player to listen to if your allowed to. good luck :)

Are the retainers supposed to get looser over time because I've had mine for about....3 and a half weeks and it's gotten looser. It doesn't fall out but it's definitely not tight.

i lovedd your video! my orthodonist said i should wear my retainer for a year all day and all night but like for 5 or 6 days this month i only wore it at night cuz i was on vacation and we took lots of pictures and ate everywear and i didn't wanna take it out a lot so will that do any harm to my teeth?

@JulieLemenaite. As long as your bite and your teeth feel in place you should be fine. just start wearing them again so your teeth dont move. and if you ever have to do that again, fit your retainer in every few hours or so. i know how you feel haha.

@JulieLemenaite easy to find out, if you try your retainer in and its tight that mean your teeth have moved, you need to wear your retainer to make them move back. You need to wear retainer for 24/7 for at least the first year, then break to nights only after that or every other night at least; lifelone retainers are the only way to ensure your teeth wont move.

@Acenickey when you get your braces off, your gums are not used to the "straightness" of your teeth haha. so when you put it on, your teeth dont have anywhere to move so they stay straight then once your gums get used to it they stay straight :) if that makes sense :)
