Personally, I think it sounds paradoxically both better and worse. I thought the original was about the least intimidating thing ever. Totally not fitting of Krayt dragons as seen in KotOR. But the new one is better in that the more echoy part sounds great but... The rest of it is a bit silly.

Not only does this edit sound utterly silly compared to the original, but it also makes far less sense; 15:12 in, in A New Hope the same beast-like noise Obi-Wan makes can be heard, indicating that a far off beast (or that lizard thing the stormtrooper is riding) is making it. So, unless Obi-Wan just likes to scream off in the distance when the mood takes him, we can assume he was originally just mimicking a beast to scare off the Sand People and not, uh, whatever he's doing in this new edit.
