what is that cat at the beginning? i have been looking for that cat show forever! lol i cant think how to spell his name ol g remor or something keeps popping in my head
Good times! Kinda sad. I took a gander at what they air NOW during Saturday mornings, and it's sad to see that kids nowadays get mostly Cable TV runoff. A lot of Cable shows are being put into the time slots in a "hand-me-down" type of fashion. Kids are basically getting second hand programming.
Where are all the good cartoons nowadays for Saturday mornings? Magination blows... hey kids let watch animated witchcraft, Yu gi oh blows so hard... monsters came out of a card and fought each other as we sat here and got fatter... so on and etc. for the lifelessly dull crap these poor kids watch.
Just realized why i grew up to become a graphic designer... because I grew up with GREAT, imaginative Saturday Morning cartoons, animations, designs, and innovations that blew my mind out of reality, and way out of "thinking outside the box"!
I get that nostalgic feeling every time i look at vids about saturday morning cartoon memories cause i was born in 1978 all the cartoons i used to watch back then the list is too long to explain all of you who were born in the 1970's & raised during the 1980's & 1990's STAND UP!!!!!!!!!!!!! and give me a HELL YEAH!!!!! these were great times to grow up in......
@BomberMonkAssassin32 Hell Yeah!!!!!!So much creativity and imagination during those years. The creators of these cartoons deserve a standing ovation and a big thank you.:)Long Live The 80's!!!!
i was born in 2000 i always wtached 4kids and kids wb but now i think saturday morings died after they had cancelled cw4kids so now i feel bad for today kids
@buckfeel that's was what's up. I remember the 90's era tv since I was born in '92. I remember the sat. mornings back in at least '93 on up. So around the short hiatus in between '01 and '03 Fox thankfully revived it with their FOX BOX and then 4 kids and then CW4kids. I liked it. It had the 90's style of programming but the only problem they had was getting good shows. TMNT up until before the fast forward years in '06 was good. Kramp Twins was good. Spectacular Spiderman was good. Everything
@buckfeel else sucked on there. It wasn't even mediocre bad. It was just bad but I appreciate what Fox and 4kids did during that period of time. Unfortunately right now they're looking like the Fox kids of the late 90's early '00s and they're bankrupt. I think it's called toonzai now. They reair the terrible Sonic X episodes and other strictly japanese animated programming that sucks. It is what it is. You enjoyed a small part of good programming before it ended. Consider yourself lucky
remember getting up at six thirty every saturday and watching until noon. My sister and I basically flipped between CBS, ABC and NBC. I miss those days considering how nearly everything put out today seems like crap.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Nope, not a Saturday thing, was a syndicated show. I know this as I was done with Saturday morning cartoons by the mid 80's. I got too "big" for that. Still a nice little homage to that time.
@eracguy Yes it premiered as a syndicated show. TMNT is more or less an "honorary" inclusion, since it premiered in the late 80s, but missed Saturday Morning placement (via CBS) by one year. It's hard to not make a connection in my mind to 80s Saturday Morning when I think of that show, so, it's good enough for me.
@eracguy Actually TMNT WAS also on Saturday mornings on CBS. In fact, the synidcated shows stopped airing new episodes around 1993 I believe. If you remember any of the later episodes where the Turtles gained a second level mutation then those are the CBS Saturday morning episodes. The show ran up until 1996 or 1997 I believe. Wikipedia has all the info.
Thank you! Such wonderful memories. I can never forget those short claymation bumpers on ABC. "After these messages, we'll be right back!" Always loved the rolling heads and the cowboy.
So many memories...Does anyone remember this cartoon that had these kids in a band and they were in like real life, but then they jumped into this mirror and became cartoons.
Why on earth would you play this music along with it??? Gosh it makes me even more filled with nostalgia...I kinda reminds me of "Human Nature" by Michael Jackson, lol. Wow being a child felt so magical back then. The world just seemed like the most beautiful carefree place for me as a little girl :). I wish my future children could see this stuff. Why don't we get some writers with some actual talent that actually care about kids and their entertainment? Not these stupid teens.
man i was a early 90s kid but my grand pa always bought me the vids of the old 80s show he also recorded me watching TMNT i was in my pijamas....dude watching this made me cry......you kids better take a lesson on these cartoons cause these are the legends i use to get up in the morning with my bowl of cereal watching captain planet or biker mice from mars
ahhhhh Saturday morning.... A day that used to bring so much joy to young people... now replaced with the stupidest shit an American could come up with! Way to go America! What else can you ruin?!
i wish cartoon creators today could look back on these cartoons and take some serious lessons. my nephews were watching tv one morning they came over to hang out with us and some cartoon they were watching had this little boy running after another boy with a big knife in his hand screaming, "im gonna kill u!" of all the noise going on with everyone talking, i stopped! my jaw fell to the floor. and this is on cartoon network. i turned the tv off. its so sad.
The adult themed cartoons should only be watched by adults period. We can use our parenting skills and monitor what we will have our kids watch, right? The Disney cartoons and Pixar cartoons also have a lot of adult content/humor that little kids won't understand/should understand.
I watched these cartoons as a kid and I looked forward to watching cartoons on Sat mornings, it was great. My kids are being introduced to the good cartoons, I don't like the cartoons out for children nowadays. Kids aren't even interested in cartoons anymore unless their under 6 y/oc0.
@travisky I think it also has to do that these cartoons are on 24/7 now, adults are writing stories that are adult themed and kids are buying into it.
This made me look back to a time when I was a kid. I actually remembered all those cartoons, for I watched every one of them. Being a child in the 80s was the best and cannot be matched today
ahh the 80's brings back lots of memories any one remember all those great kid movies that came out. flight of the navigator, the goonies, the ewooks , ect. ect.
PLEASE does anyone remember the cartoon The Biscuts!! they were little bears, not the gummi bears! they protected a tresure that a king and his jester wanted!! One was a knight ,one was a princess!!
@nikkib2575 They were actually little dogs, who protected other kingdoms' treasure from an evil king (forgot his name) and his jester Shecky and also had to deal with I do believe an evil wildcat who wanted the furry little ones for his dinner.
Kids nowadays are MISSING OUT. Now I know every generation has their own spin and their own standard and usually the previous generation looks down on it, but truthfully the things on tv for kids these day is bottom of the barrel unimaginative junk. If I was raising a kid, he/she would just read books, because TV is just not up to snuff anymore.
@ccipollini1984 Amazingly well-said, I agree. I honestly think at this point that it's gone beyond the issue of "subjectivity", and that there really is nothing worthwhile going on in TVland for the kiddies. But hey, they've got internet now.
@ccipollini1984 It's not the kids' fault. They cant help being born when they're born. Hell, I would have wanted to be born myself but I'm blessed that I watched everything my older brothers and sisters watched making '92 not so bad. I blame the executives and the FCC. The FCC has to be fought over making the 3 networks put on educational programming on saturdays. Then I have t blame the cable networks. Okay so cartoon network, nickelodeon, and disney have cartoons but they don't make good ones
@ccipollini1984 not only do they not make good cartoons but they don't air them as a special block. A lot of the time I'll see a new cartoon air on my tv guide and I'll say "really? they're just going to throw a new episode on like that out of the blue?" That's weird for me. They need a saturday morning block and not just run reruns in the morning. It needs to be dignified as an actual saturday morning block to make it feel special and can't miss but I know they'll never do it. They're dumb
Ok, the year is 1986, i'm 5, i remember waking up ealry around 6:00 and thunder cats use to come on Fox 32 WFLD chicago area, this is before fox became huge and sliver hawks use to come on right after. Then later on in my high school years late 90s cartoonnetwork pick this show and voltron back up. Cartoons are not cartoons anymore not like these shows in the 80s and early 90s...I guess that why I watch mostly anime now...american made stuff just isn't the same.
As a child of the 80's I really liked the cartoons from back then. I remember watching them faithfully and looking forward to it every Saturday morning. The cartoons they have on now are so stupid and not good like these. Thanks for posting this video.
Here's what I want. "Retro TV--80s Network" The entire schedule would be made up of programming that aired at any point from 1980-1989. And not just rag tag stuff thrown on at any old time. Saturday and Sunday mornings should be cartoons, night time should have a different show each night from action to soap operas, and even classic sporting events re-aired in the afternoon.
I sort of agree. I think it's best not to cling. Just enjoy it for what it was and keep it at that. How do we move forward in our lives if we keep looking back?
@ccipollini1984 I agree with that, but there is a right and wrong way to do it. The wrong way is for TV to put on reality shows and talent shows and all of this other junk. The right way is stuff like Human Target, NCIS, and Chuck. Those shows have a modern feel while also linking up to shows of the past.
These old shows were the best. That's why I'm looking for DVD sets of these and picking them up. My future children will make their own decisions in the end, but I'll be damned if I don't introduce them to a decent point of reference.
I am building a time machine...next stop early 1980s on a sunny saturday morning with all the lucky charms you could fit in a huge bowl!!!!!!!!!!! It fits ten people, whos in?! ALLLLLL AABBOAARD!
I remember nearly all of these toons, great memories.Nice to see that Mighty Orbots were included. Only 1 season, but left quite an impression.Explains my intrest in anime nowadays. The Sat. Supercade bumpers are also very memorable as well. The music is a nice touch as well, very nostalgic feeling.Thanx for posting. 70's/80's toons always.
Great job. Check out my new video, which is a trip back through my favorite Saturday morning cartoons of the 70s and 80s, and the memories they bring to life.
Saturday mornings were the best! And they were all i had!!..Now there are 30 channels showing cartoons 24 hours a day....But I love these classics the best
Awww. We were the luckiest kids on earth. To be a kid in the 80s - there was no better time to be a kid. Sincerely. The BEST. God bless our generation - lots has changed since these innocent days of our youth. I wish my kids could have these shows and the same innocence we did. We were so safely sheltered in the way every kid deserves to be! Cartoons actually taught us values and morals. Made us feel good about ourselves. Wonderful tribute. Well done! :) Cheers!
@drew081682 I think that was a generic "romantic female character" who bursts out of the book (along with a lot of other literary archetypes) for the intro to the ABC Weekend Specials segment you see at 1:25 to 1:35.
@phantomking81 (sung in an early 80s rock motif) "Go ... MIGHTY ORBOTS! ... they're joining together to fight for what's right everywhere ... MIGHTY ORBOTS!"
:D
I only think this show had one season ... but the concept was AWESOME ... set in a future where Earth is the center of a mighty space civilization, five robots (Tor, Bort, Bo, Boo and Crunch) are a defense force that can unite into a single megarobot (this was a couple of years before Voltron).
@phantomking81 Update: I just went to the wikipedia page for Mighty Orbots and Voltron ... the original Japanese cartoon "Go Lion" that was later cut-and-pasted together for American child audiences as "Voltron" originally aired in 1981.
Orbots was an American produced/Japanese animated show (like Thundercats after it) that aired in the fall of 1984 ... the exact same time that "Voltron" appeared in America.
@harayda Cap'n O.G. Readmore was the "host" of the ABC Weekend Specials segment you see from 1:25 to 1:35. Why is he a captain? ... I would guess it's an homage to the nautical theme of the "original" American novel, "Moby Dick." Plus, it emphasizes the point of reading as an exciting exploration.
God, this is all making me misty-eyed for how much people used to CARE what kids were watching.
Nice work, but by the time period you're paying tribute here the heyday of the Saturday morning cartoon had already gone the way of the dodo. The BEST stuff was from about 1966 to around 1977 or so; after that most if it was just too paonful to watch.
Thank you for posting this up,this really made my day. God how i missed living in the 80s,those days where the best.Ewoks, teenage mutant ninja turtles, voltron, the saturday morning short stories, thundercats, the real ghostbusters. Tv just sucks now a days.
Wow that was REALLY depressing. It's sad to know kids today and in the future will probably never know about a time when 3-4 different major networks aired nothing but GOOD cartoons from 6am-noon every Saturday morning.
i cant belive the kids now dont have a saturday n sun morn tradition its sad n rem the wresteling iin the morning to! so sad kids r addicted to ipods n video games after bfast n toons n wresteling i went outside for the rest of the entire day n night
OMG, you had the pretty animated woman's face 3:38-3:39, I MISS HER! I loved that sytle, very pretty. The cartoon (not the movie) Beetlejuice came out 1990/91 not in the 80's tho :). You missed He-Man, She-Ra...whatever, I still LOVED THIS!
My boy included Hulk Hogan's Rocking Wrestling, Galaxy High, School House Rock episodes, The Mighty Orbots, Winnie the Pooh, ABC and NBC bumpers... dude, this was HOT.
I was born in 81, and could recognize this stuff from 1983 and beyond, so I'm feeling this. And the music was sweet, sensitive and emotional. We have GOT to get a channel that runs stuff like this for the next generations....
That would be amazing, but the rights acquisition would be EXPENSIVE as all hell and therefore not necessary or worth it to a lot of companies. The only ones who TRULY miss these shows are us and would we-CAN we-even sit down to watch them if they were put on? Most of us are now what, 25-30? Saturday mornings are now for either sleeping in, watching children or working. It's a rare occasion that we can relax and enjoy saturdays. I do miss it and I wish they'd bring it back, but they wont.
WOW WOW AND WOW! Thanks so much for taking me and all of us back to a better time. And thanks for the brief D&D shot near the end. That show was one of my favorites
Good job on the tribute. I'll never forget those times, being a mid '80s to early '90s kid. And I wouldn't be able to pry myself from the couch if cable brought back the glory days of quality entertainment like Disney Channel, Nick and Saturday mornings! But it's not gonna happen though.
Stuff like Garfield, Alvin, Muppet Babies, Darkwing Duck, Beetlejuice, Teddy Ruxpin, TMNT, Doug, Pee Wee, Bobby's World, but my all-time favorite would be Care Bears (I even collect cels from the ABC show).
@tjcancel While some of these were later shown during weekdays (or in the case of TMNT, originally shown on weekday afternoons), I do believe every cartoon shown here was on Saturday mornings at one point.
I hear you all. Cartoons were WAY better back then. You get a few decent ones now I like Flapjack but NBC, ABC they had some great cartoons back in the late 80's early 90's
What happened? There are 2 maybe 3 cartoons that come on now. No wonder kids are so crazy nowadays. They don't have good cartoons to keep them occupied like we did!
wow those brought me back. I remember waking up at 5 a.m. to start my Sat. with George of the Jungle and then Baby Huey and then Rocky and Bullwinkle. I didn't see the Munchichis, Snorks, Dragon Slayer, Thundar the Barbarian, Galtar and the Golden Lance, The Mighty Barbarians. USA Network had some awesome cartoons as well.
Here it is a saturday morning in Connecticut and I'm on youtube looking up sat morn cartoons. I refuse to grow up! We had it made back then. Who cares if they were made to sell toys!
thats when cartoons were cartoons iv watch everyone of those born 1982, but know cartoons suck and there trying to bring back a lot of then and they suck
damn man..That was a great flashback. I can totally see me and my little bro trying to wake up first for rights to the T.V, I useto start my sat. with MR.Wixards world on nick. Damn Times were so great then, people useto care about Childrens development we had (80's and earlyier babies) had soo much positive shows. These kids don't have single thing positive on TV today, nothing to motivate them to get out. No G.I Joe to teach you things. These weekend everything is about money.GREED

BRING BACK the FULL LINE-UP of Saturday Morning Cartoons from all 3 stations... ABC, CBS, NBC.
Or on Saturday Mornings.... establish a dedicated channel to Saturday Morning Cartoons, then return it to it's original programming.

They're dumb
osaji922 2 months ago
Ok, the year is 1986, i'm 5, i remember waking up ealry around 6:00 and thunder cats use to come on Fox 32 WFLD chicago area, this is before fox became huge and sliver hawks use to come on right after. Then later on in my high school years late 90s cartoonnetwork pick this show and voltron back up. Cartoons are not cartoons anymore not like these shows in the 80s and early 90s...I guess that why I watch mostly anime now...american made stuff just isn't the same.

The 60's and 70's folks can argue all they want, but the 80's was the BEST decade for cartoons hands down!!! Thumbs up if you agree!!

CombatSportFan 1 year ago
@CombatSportFan
I sort of agree. I think it's best not to cling. Just enjoy it for what it was and keep it at that. How do we move forward in our lives if we keep looking back?
ccipollini1984 1 year ago
@ccipollini1984 I agree with that, but there is a right and wrong way to do it. The wrong way is for TV to put on reality shows and talent shows and all of this other junk. The right way is stuff like Human Target, NCIS, and Chuck. Those shows have a modern feel while also linking up to shows of the past.
CombatSportFan 1 year ago
@CombatSportFan I like this idea :3 That would be incentive enough for me to buy cable again XD

These old shows were the best. That's why I'm looking for DVD sets of these and picking them up. My future children will make their own decisions in the end, but I'll be damned if I don't introduce them to a decent point of reference.
For example: Fraggle Rock :3

What super robot show is that at 3:59? I don't seem to remember that one out of all the shows I can recognize in the video.
phantomking81 1 year ago
@phantomking81 (sung in an early 80s rock motif) "Go ... MIGHTY ORBOTS! ... they're joining together to fight for what's right everywhere ... MIGHTY ORBOTS!"
:D
I only think this show had one season ... but the concept was AWESOME ... set in a future where Earth is the center of a mighty space civilization, five robots (Tor, Bort, Bo, Boo and Crunch) are a defense force that can unite into a single megarobot (this was a couple of years before Voltron).
lenarends 1 year ago
@phantomking81 Update: I just went to the wikipedia page for Mighty Orbots and Voltron ... the original Japanese cartoon "Go Lion" that was later cut-and-pasted together for American child audiences as "Voltron" originally aired in 1981.
Orbots was an American produced/Japanese animated show (like Thundercats after it) that aired in the fall of 1984 ... the exact same time that "Voltron" appeared in America.

Who's is the cat at the 10 second mark?
harayda 1 year ago
@harayda I remember him... I forget if it was a show he was on, but I think it was a spot about reading books.
philiptwood 1 year ago
@harayda Cap'n O.G. Readmore was the "host" of the ABC Weekend Specials segment you see from 1:25 to 1:35. Why is he a captain? ... I would guess it's an homage to the nautical theme of the "original" American novel, "Moby Dick." Plus, it emphasizes the point of reading as an exciting exploration.
God, this is all making me misty-eyed for how much people used to CARE what kids were watching.
lenarends 1 year ago
who is the woman winking at 3:38? what series is she from?
drew081682 1 year ago
Nice work, but by the time period you're paying tribute here the heyday of the Saturday morning cartoon had already gone the way of the dodo. The BEST stuff was from about 1966 to around 1977 or so; after that most if it was just too paonful to watch.

Well...DONE!
Classic!
Shenruss 2 years ago
Your so right, how sweet it would be to have a channel dedicated to 80's saturday mornings.
Felixg1979 1 year ago
That would be amazing, but the rights acquisition would be EXPENSIVE as all hell and therefore not necessary or worth it to a lot of companies. The only ones who TRULY miss these shows are us and would we-CAN we-even sit down to watch them if they were put on? Most of us are now what, 25-30? Saturday mornings are now for either sleeping in, watching children or working. It's a rare occasion that we can relax and enjoy saturdays. I do miss it and I wish they'd bring it back, but they wont.

This is the kinda mind God gave me; I haveproblems with quadratic equations, but 20-odd year old cartoon theme songs are FRESH in my memory!
Lol.
Still, the things we hang onto, man.... some stuff just strikes a cord, you know?
Especially when you're a kid
Shenruss 2 years ago

These kids don't have single thing positive on TV today, nothing to motivate them to get out. No G.I Joe to teach you things. These weekend everything is about money.GREED
