Here in Canada,law abiding citizens have to register their guns. The cops say they use the registry when they receive house calls to check if a household has registered guns. If none are shown, they treat the situation as if there could be a gun. So what is the point? A criminal isnt going to register their gun used for crime. Since when was the 2nd Amendment put in our list of individual liberties (Bill of Rights) so that we could go hunting? Our right to bear arms was not intended to have for hunting...as a matter of fact it wasn't drawn up specifically for self defense either. It was for DEFENSE FROM OUR OWN GOVERNMENT (in case it began to infringe on our rights). There is a reason it is NUMBER 2 on our Bill of Rights. The british government at the time leading up to the revolution realized the dissent in the colonies, they then began the confiscation of firearms. That is why it was such an important amendment.

No magic to semi-auto weapons. Most civilian weapons (rifles, handguns, revolvers, etc) fall into this category. A semi-auto simply cocks the weapon for the user, allowing it to fire once each time the trigger is squeezed. Military-only "automatic" weapons fire repeatedly as long as the trigger is held. Assault-style weapons, mostly chosen for self-defense, typically have hand grips and shorter stocks to allow the weapon to be handled easier inside a building or home.

In case you haven't noticed, the United States is not Australia. Latter's crime statistics were considerably lower before gun ban, making any reduction significant. A proportional reduction in the USA will still result in thousands killed each year. Australia is also surrounded by water, reducing the flow of illegal weapons. The USA can't stop illegal immigrants, so forget weapons from Central or South America.

The irony about "Assault Rifles / Semi-Automatic Assault Rifles" (Not actual terms by the way) is that one *can* purchase a sub-machine gun in the United States to this day. You pay for a hefty license and are subject to finger printing/background check and tracking of the weapon... but sure enough, you can own and operate an actual SMG.

Well half true. Anything preban (1986) and fully transferable can be owned. But anything after that is illegal for the average citizen, only Law Enforcement and Military folks. Here in Canada,law abiding citizens have to register their guns. The cops say they use the registry when they receive house calls to check if a household has registered guns. If none are shown, they treat the situation as if there could be a gun. So what is the point? A criminal isnt going to register their gun used for crime. They steal the registered guns and the one whose name is on the registry gets punished. Great system. Good use of money.

Our right to bear arms was not intended to have for hunting...as a matter of fact it wasn't drawn up specifically for self defense either. It was for DEFENSE FROM OUR OWN GOVERNMENT (in case it began to infringe on our rights). There is a reason it is NUMBER 2 on our Bill of Rights. The british government at the time leading up to the revolution realized the dissent in the colonies, they then began the confiscation of firearms. That is why it was such an important amendment.

My rifles are MADE to kill things, that what weapons do. I like killing machines thats why i own them. And wehn it comes time to use it i want it to do what it is made to do. And that is simply kill the target 5 times over. And if the target has cohorts that are with him/her that intend to harm me as well they will also be killed. Plain and simple. They say that "assault weapons" were used by criminals to kill people. This is very much less than even a half truth. Yes, as anything, "assault weapons" have been used in crime, but they only account for around 3% of all crime committed with guns.

they didn't use assault weapons if they had things would of been alot worse would of been twice the casualties. But they didn't now they want to take away our rights because of the actions of quite a few nutcases. Wich only wanted to cause more and then they forward there agenda on the news thats what the shooters wanted them broadcasting it on the news got more people killed. Yet they dont talk about that. They used semi auto self defense weapons not military models by any means.

Its a check and balances thing. The fact that we are a mass of citizens who have the ability to fight back to some extent keeps the gov in check. We more than likely wont ever have to do that but the fact that its there matters a lot. We delete one amendment where does it stop? Dont underestimate the constitution.

No magic to semi-auto weapons. Most civilian weapons (rifles, handguns, revolvers, etc) fall into this category. A semi-auto simply cocks the weapon for the user, allowing it to fire once each time the trigger is squeezed. Military-only "automatic" weapons fire repeatedly as long as the trigger is held. Assault-style weapons, mostly chosen for self-defense, typically have hand grips and shorter stocks to allow the weapon to be handled easier inside a building or home.

In case you haven't noticed, the United States is not Australia. Latter's crime statistics were considerably lower before gun ban, making any reduction significant. A proportional reduction in the USA will still result in thousands killed each year. Australia is also surrounded by water, reducing the flow of illegal weapons. The USA can't stop illegal immigrants, so forget weapons from Central or South America.
