  • Ah well, he's dead right about Mr Sumner's shite acting, and it makes a nice change from someone singing about their time as a teacher (really?) and how young girls had the hots for and fantasized about him, or his time as the king of pain!

  • Why doesn't the title include "Cover- Richard Thompsons's : Here comes Geordie"?

PS Just heard the conversation between RT and Sting, I misunderstood the title.

It's not a small minded song. Literature is filled with satire. This song is a satire, a commentary on a particular type of person.

I think it's wonderful, and funny, too.

  • Why doesn't the title include "Cover- Richard Thompsons's : Here comes Geordie"? I respect Sting as a fine person and artist, so I am surprised to see him claim this song as his own. Especially as it sounds like RT doing the singing!!

  • Thanks for posting. RT did a great rendition at Gatesheed Sage back in February

  • Richard Thompson has gone up in my estimation (which I thought was impossible) since hearing this

  • I'm not blind to Sting's faults, but am I the only person here who thinks this a very mean and small-minded song? Richard Thompson has really gone down in my estimation since hearing this.

  • @boyhamish "am I the only person here who thinks this a very mean and small-minded song?"

    Quite possibly.

  • This song is by Richard Thomson - A true legend!

  • Here comes Geordie acting in a play

    HeÕs no Gielgud or Olivier

Stiff as cardboard, isnÕt it a drag Ð canÕt

Act his way out of a paper bag

Here Comes Geordie, back in town again

Here Comes Geordie, strutting down the lane

Girls all love him, think he is the end

Boys all say, the mirrorÕs his best friend

  • Here comes Geordie in his private plane

Got to save the planet once again

Good old Geordie, righteous as can be

Cut down the forest just to save a tree

Good old Geordie went to buy a hat

Geordie says, My head wonÕt fit in that

ItÕs so swollen, much to my surprise

TheyÕre all too small, thereÕs nothing in my size

  • Here Comes Geordie Written by Richard Thompson Appears on Dream Attic (2010) Here Comes Geordie, back in town again Here Comes Geordie, strutting down the lane Girls all want to toy with his affection Boys all say, he loves his own reflection Hey now, Geordie, sing us all a song Whoa there, Geordie, whereÕs your mother tongue? Love RT
