  • after researching on imdb trivia.. im still confused.

  • Comment removed

  • no one died in this version of the film. apparently a man did die in the 1925 version of it because they didnt have proper stunt equpiment he was thrown from a chariot landed on a pile of timber dying from the injuries. however they dont have many articles to back it up.

  • k wat happened is one guy actually fell off of the chariot unintenionally and died

  • I know it's alread ybeen said, but the people who post dumb comments never read further than halfway down the page. NO stuntman was killed at ANY point in the making of this film. Oh, and NO car can be seen in the background. I wonder if it's the studios that make up this crap for publicity, or if the kind of idiots who make up 911 conspiracies occasionally turn their attention to the movies.

  • @mellowb1rd OMG - you saw the car too?! It's so sad about the dead guy.

  • @fluchter1996 The lizard-peoples cloaking devices don't work on people who's brains have a certain vibration. people like us (and, of course, David Icke) Have acheived a higher vibrational awareness, and can see things that aren't there more easily. If only there were more special people like us, the illuminati wouldn't rule the earth. Nor would the NWO. Nor would the Bildebergers. Nor would the lizard people. Nor would the greys.

  • Well, the "death" rumor is just the wrong movie. The silent version of Ben Hur from 1926 resulted in a stuntman's death.

  • @eddiesocket Yeah right, a SILENT film. What did they do, put cotton wool on all the horses feet? It sounds like you know more than you're letting on. Perhaps you're somehow connected to all these chariot race deaths, hmm?

  • lol man watching everyone talk shish on you tube is too funny

  • not to give anything away to those who maybe haven't seen it yet, but *cough coughs* death was a lot more brutal.

  • You, who believe that a stuntman was run over, and also killed, haven't You ever wondered how it could be filmed from several angles? In reality, when the chariot crashed and the stuntman was flung out, no horses were directly behind, for safety reasons. Then they positioned a dummy on the track, and let a chariot run over it. Every stunt was VERY carefully planned.

  • YOURE A DOUCHEBAD DAVID ITS NOT THAT MAN DIED HIS FAMILY WANTED HIM TO NOT DIE IN VAIN SO THEY ASKED THAT IT BE PPUT IN

  • Sorry, its not an urban legend. But the guy who did die was not in the scene above. The man that died was a wrangler from Rome, no one from the American crew died. I am friends with the stunt man who drove the black team. and he was there for a year for the filming. One of the roman wranglers was thrown and ran over. my friend said the black team came close to hitting him also, missed his head by inches but the scene above was not the guy who died, the scene above was a just a stunt.

  • @Pennytunes You friends with a guy who was alive in the 1950's?

  • @codyoty You know there are alot of people still alive from the 1950s lmfao.

  • @tahngarth69 Dude I had no clue! Thanks for the information!

  • @codyoty Idiot.

  • This is what I heard. Someone did die in movie for real, but it wasn't the guy being run over, it was a guy you stepped in front of the charriot on accident or something

  • Omg, this guy ACTUALLY DIED. Thx duncanpunisher for gracing us with your intelligence

  • It's an urban legend. Check Snopes.com

  • in the movie he did actually die, it is still shown only because his family wanted him to still be a part of the movie and live on with in it, his spine was shattered

  • @rennielucas No he didn't.

  • Nevermind that fact that it would a be tasteless thing to put a real death into a major motion picture!

  • There was a death in the race of the 1926 verion of Ben Hur

  • No this was a fake scene, but there was guy who died in the chariot race for real

  • @chillmastewwe NO ONE DIED. And please people look at every single other comment, we've been over this.

  • @duncanpunisher OMG - that poor man. I hope I never get run over by a chariot like this. If you listen at 0:34 you can actually hear the man's bones crunch, which proves that he died. I heard that after the accident he then got fed to lions - eugh - what a way to go. Those Romans!

  • @duncanpunisher I've just watched this sequence live on television this afternoon - and the man was clearly killed. You even see him being taken off in a stretcher moments after the fatal accident - if it was a dummy or mannequin, why would they carry it off on a stretcher? That just doesn't make any sense. The way you keep denying that the dead dude died does make me think that you must be in denial.

  • Charlton Heston (Judah) and Stephen Boyd (Masala) were trained to drive their own chariots for this race. The competitor in this scene who is ejected from his chariot and then run over was never harmed, and although there were rumors otherwise, not one person died from the filming of this chariot race.Funny that our special effects are more advanced today, yet we are still more horrified and convinced enough to believe that the stunt man here was killed during this shot.

  • @jazz0685

They had a Charlton Heston Look alike contest and the guy who won replaced the real Heston. If you look the Jaw is different on the NRA Poster. The real Heston went to live with Paul McCartney in Strawberry fields and he is also a walrus

  • no one died in the making of this movie, take 2 minutes to google it

  • In the movie "El Dorado", James Caan said that a horse would not step on a man. But in this scene they step all over the Roman guy.

  • NOT FAIR that only the one guy gets to drive the chariot with the sharp metal deal sticking out the wheel!!!

Is that because he is a Roman that he gets this unfair advantage???

  • yes it is, it was to make sure that romans where victorious

  • Who's a bigger dummy? The one that was run over by the horses, or the ones who don't notice the CAMERA BREAK and think the actor was run over and killed?

  • he was killed....dip shit

  • no he wasnt....dip shit

  • @cmcav1098 yes. someone dies when they bring out the stretcher thing. I swear to God, look it up.

  • the man did die, thats a well known fact, his family wanted them to keep the scene so his death was'nt for nothing

  • no ones gunna thank you everyone already knew that

  • @david9kim Trampled; Mannequins. No need to thank me.

  • @david9kim that's 'mannequin' you dumb twat

  • @david9kim

Maybe you should have gone to English class instead.

    *mannequins

    *trampled

  • I didn't think this was the shot. It looks too edited. You see the horses, then the shot goes back to him getting run over. i thought the guy who flipped over the chariot was the one who died.

  • @lagoonguy No one died. That's a famous urban legend. The stuntman who got flipped out of the Chariot was Jon Canutt, son of head stunt coordinator Yakima Canutt. The "flip out of the chariot" was not planned but since they had it on film they used it and had a shot of Heston climbing back into the Chariot. Jon Canutt hurt his chin in the incident but was not seriously injured.

  • awesome

  • An urban legend that Stuntman Nosher Powell claims happened in his autobiography. It's obviously not a dummy and I saw a documentary on it about 20 years ago. Everyone that claims the 'myth' defense always brings up Messala's scene and not this guy in green who was the one people claimed to have died. To even bring up Steven Boyd's double means that obviously the person commenting doesn't even know enough about the claim to even have a valid opinion.

  • It's called an "urban legend" and it's completely shit.

  • it was a really good feat in graphics, this whole scene, for the date it was in, hell it looked better than most cg sh@$ does today

  • omg....he lived..he just got stitches on his chin..

if you wanna see somethin really freaky..look at the wizard of oz suicide.

  • also an urban legend. it was a bird, everybody knows this by now. sort of damn yahoo for killing all of these legends, but w/e

  • NO ONE DIED in this scene let alone this movie ppl get over it

  • no dude he actually died in this they kept it in the movie the dude did die!!!!!!

  • obviously its a dummy because its all on one camera shot then it changes as he Dies if it was real it woulda been on the same shot as we could see him moving and dodging ect FAKE!!! MYTH ..

  • no he actually died dude. pay respect you retad.

  • No, it was a dummy. Nobody died in the 1959 version of Ben-Hur. There is nobody to pay respect to because nobody died. Don´t call us ¨retads¨.

  • lol. you obviously dont know what a retad is. i didnt mean retard, you idiot. know your ghetto words, please, Mr. Iknoweverything.

  • I never claimed to know everything. Go to snopes, they actually slowed down the scene and watched, bit by bit, stunt by stunt, to determine that the only time any characters were run over, they were dummies. And what point is knowing my ghetto words if they will never get me anywhere in life? Suck on that, dumbass.

  • worldslayer you fuckng moron, nobody really died in this movie. Stop calling everyone a retard when you're the one whose wrong. Now go fuck yourself dumbass. Everyone knows you're wrong

  • I saw Maria Schellenberger for a second!

  • those men trampled must have been dummies or mannequins, the real actors would have been killed!

  • actually, this actor right here DID die in real life. no bull.

  • bull, go on yahoo news

  • this movie was made 50 years ago. if y=someone died on the set and it looked perfect, they kept it in.

  • Yea my history teacher told me this guy really died but my teacher got kicked and the end of the year for smoking pot before most classes basicly i passed with 100% with out doing much work... he was 65 years old too so can't go back

  • y r u telling us that

  • @oldgody So, this 65 year old man got sacked. And you got 100% without doing much work (and with your obvious disabilities as evidenced by your writing ability).

It does beg the question what could a little handicapped boy do to his 65 year old, sacked, stoned, male teacher in order to merit 100% pass marks?...

  • @fluchter1996 Wow, good job on replying a 2 year old post. I don't know where you come from with questionning the origin of a grade compared to mental disabilities but perhaps you're speaking from personal experience, who knows. I was just implying that he was pot head and we didn't believe him when he had told us: the stunt double had died in this accident. Again congratulations on replying this clearly old post.

  • @oldgody So, you blew him, right?

  • @fluchter1996 No, and even if I had, I imagine you'd want details.

  • @oldgody My history teacher told me today that he really did die as well. No, he didn't smoke pot... He told me they asked the family if they wanted to edit that part of the movie out and they said "No, he is a stunt man and that will be his final moment of his life" ...something like that. But yeah, it's his real death! O_O

  • They thought he was just playing dead when they brought him off the scene but then they relized "Hey shouldn't he be awake now"

  • fucking shit quality - camera isn't even pointing at the TV!!!

  • its a wide screen movie

  • lol - spot on.

  • you can see a smell red car at the start, and he's wearing a watch.

    brilliant

  • at what time can u see the car

  • also that watch is a bracelet not a watch

  • 347,000,000 people died making this movie. It was originally 65x longer, but way too bloody and the risk of psychotic damage to viewers was too great.

  • damnit, you´re funny! ;-)

  • whats the name of this song?

  • its a halo song called: master and chief by justin durbin

  • thanks

  • 11 people died in that movie

  • Vickers - I heard a rumour that 11 people died in the original black and white version - but no independent witness verification for this.

  • william wylers vehemently denies that someone died in the making of the chariot scene. the close call was when the chariot went off the ramp and almost flipped over. the stunt man was able to hang on to the front of the chariot, and they shot heston getting back on the chariot. The testimony about the dead stuntman was from another stuntman. Depends on who's word you would trust.

  • ok key word for its "TIME" mad max came out in 84' i believe which is like 25 years later and back then something like this was crazy and gettin trampled by horse could kill u and there is a chance u could survive gettin run ove by a truck (if prepared.)

  • "its time" not "it's time"....

Good clip, but it stands alone without the music.

  • i always get that mixed up

  • wow.. who the fuck cares. your a douche bag

  • no, "you're" a douchebag.

  • is the the scene where the guy is wearing a watch... RIP dude that died recently x

  • charlton heston?

  • Go to the Snopes and look up Ben Hur. Nobody died.

  • a stuntman did die here my us history teacher says so

  • well ur ushistorys a liar or not its denied by director and how did that come up in us history?

  • Here is the record -- one or two horses had to be put to sleep during filming of the original Ben-Hur (1920's) chariot race due to injuries. NO horses or men were seriously injured or killed in the 1950s version of Ben-Hur.

  • I was always told a stuntman died during the filming of the chariot race. So is it true or not?

  • no its not through out the 43 comments we have descussewd it or atleast thats wat the director says

  • This would make a good game =D

Someone died in the 1929 version, not in this one. and yes, it was in the ramming scene

  • uh nothin this is just a video but people say theres a car and wats with the cock (wtf)

  • People say there's a car? Sorry i don't understand

  • people say u can see a car its in some of the older comments y dont u look

  • sorry can't be bothered

  • Trust me there is no car!

  • For everyone who has asked questions about 'someone really died' in this movie, I can tell that it's not true. However, this movie is a remake of the first Ben Hur-Movie, made in 1910 or so, and in that movie someone actually died, but not in the horse race. He drowned in the boat-battle earlier in the movie.

  • actually there were two prior two this

  • those two were from 1907 (very short) and 1927

  • yea plus the cartoon (2004) makin 4 different versions

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing. I wonder who that remarkaable stuntman was that did that death scene.

You really wish he could have avoided that second chariot.

  • ur welcome, the quality isn't that great so i cant believe im gettin all this praise, i filmed it on a cheap camcorder

  • This is one of the incredible movie scenes ever made. And it's without all today's great movie techniques.

  • No red cars, no horrific deaths (although the mannequin was probably never used again), but definitely a cinematic classic.

  • I heard that there was suppose to be a red car accidently left in the chariot scene???? Is this true or an urban legend???

  • i dnt no but some guy commented about that also u should be able to find it if u look through all the comments for this video u should talk to him

  • it is true

  • you know someone acually died filming that "seen"

  • its just a rumor and has been denied by the director

  • bollocks

  • Is that bollocks as in it is true or it is some made up shit?

  • you just had to put the Rice Crispies sound effect in there.....didn't ya? :>}}

  • well i was looking for a crrunch sound effect but this was the best i could come up with !?!! lol

  • I like the title.....Ben Hur-Chariot Death Seen....did u mean scene?

    HAHAHA!

  • o crap i didnt even realize that thanks

  • ), so when they were hit they "reacted" the way a normal human body would in that situation. A combination of adroit placement and expert editing made the dummies look like real people being run over.

  • yeah we know

  • a Roman soldier standing on the center island who was hit by a chariot and the driver of a spilled rig who jumped out of the way of one chariot but was immediately run over by another one were all articulated and weighted dummies (made with movable arm and leg joints),

  • The rumor that Stephen Boyd's double was killed during the chariot race is false. According to second-unit director Yakima Canutt, the "Messala" that was run over,

  • oh to all those ppl who thought it wuz a car,GUESS WHAT! it's another chariot! god

  • oh you know that dodged a bullet thingy i gave dunkan that idea =)

  • JAWOHL,Herr Duncanpunisher,really nicht reality,Du

ist so weiss richtig,Danke und Danke!

Were ever forced to bash ,a faggot hoe ?????

  • wat are u talkin about!

  • wat the hell did u just say speak english

  • Was not a Man,Reality killed,making that scence?!?!?

  • i guess english isnt ur first language its really not reality but never mind i guess its good u no to launguages but yeah a stunt man said someone was killed but the director denies it

  • yo duncan its harry! as u will probly know by duh name! i remember that sleepover funny funny stuff and what si that guy talkin about with the car crap? i dont see no car

  • me neither

  • At 1:37 you can see a car in the backround.

  • jon if this is jon wheres the car

  • sorry ur not jon but wheres the car??

  • Try looking in front of the horses after he's getting up. I'm not sure if this is the right scene or not I just read it on the internet. So i'm not totaly sure that it's really a car or bad graphics.

  • no car there

  • kayz

  • there is a whole rumor that the actor who played this guy died on the set, but its all fake. its a dummy, just in case anyone had heard the rumor and thought it was real

  • yeah at first we thought this was the real guy but its just a dummy and its a stunt guy who says a real guy died but the director denies it
