its nice to see people actually leaveing civil comments on a video for a change. i think this song is pretty cool. it can be used for many things i for 1. im proud to be a Christian for 2. im proud to be gay its also good for weight loss or any other good achievment. to those who left comments below this song was first used in 2000 on queer as folk then TBL in 2004 then the Oprah Winfrey showin 2005. it dont matter why it was created though it just matters it is a good song.

@dosmaridos . I am ok with people having pride, acceptance within themselves. Just because someone doesn't agree with the gay lifestyle, then I AM labeled and ignorant or homophobic. I agree that Proud is a song about humanity in general, I think it would be good to remember that many American's first exposure to Proud was on Queer as Folk.

I'm straight, but I don't think that the meaning of this song is diminished for me just because people use it as a 'gay' anthem. And with all the bashing that occurs to minorities, I don't mind if they take pride in having a song represent them... and considering Heather Small approved its use on QAF, I don't think she does either.
