my avalanche does the same thing with the spedo. have no idea how to perminantly fix it. but to temporarily fix it.. turn the key between the on and start position to have the gauges reset... keep doing it until the needle hits zero. although its a risky thing to do, once it killed everyone of my gauges

@possiblefurry - speedometer was recalled long time ago, you may still be able to get dealer to replace it

Yeah my step mom has a Chevy Avalanche 06. She has it all customized, like I mean she has it lifted, chip in the engine, romote starter, custom rims and tires, tvs and a new stero with an ipod hook up. Im going to ask her if I could possibly make a video of it and do you think you'll possible tell me what you think of the truck?

in my opininion the avalanche is ok, but almost everyone here should or would agree that quality did drop to a new low in 2003, quality has returned but it was so bad, it was almost as bad as the 90's cavalier

@p3ople200 Yeah dropped for all GM truck/SUVs in the 05-06 were the worst... lots of plastic, in side out, shaky reliability noticeable cost-cutting not to mention uglier styling. The current Avalanche/Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban all have below avg reliability ratings Personally I wouldn't touch an GM truck/SUV Product past 2004.

Haha I have an 02 Avalanche. Those hood latches are tricky arent they lol. It took me forever to find mine. I love mine and ive done tons of things to it. I have right at 139,000 miles on it and still tunning strong. They are awesome trucks

My dad's '04 Silverado has a problem with the speedometer, it happens mainly in the winter, but now is happening in the summer. He will be parked and the dash will say he's going anywhere from 20-50 mph. We were going 45 today, and it said we were going 80.

The Vortec 5300 is an awesome engine. IMO best GM engine ever made though was the 4300 found in the Jimmys/Blazers. My Uncle's Jimmy was just hitting it's stride at 250,000 kms before it was totaled.

I thought the speedometer did a gauge sweep in GM vehicles. Very well-equipped truck though. My friend's a senior in high school and he just got a 2006 Chevy Colorado, and he says he "LOVES IT!!!!"

You know, it's kinda funny about the speedometer. On my computer where the Google Ads are, there is an ad for speedometer cluster repair for $200. Anyway, I like this truck, I like the interior and front end styling. Reminds me of the Colorado/ Canyon. Really hope some day you get a Chrysler 300.

Nice truck, but its too bad they don't make it in V6 form, otherwise my Dad would've got it instead of his Explorer Sport Trac. V8's use an unnecessary amount of gas.

iv always like the styling of the avalanche and that is a very nice one with leather and options like that... that is a common gm problem with the dash in 03-04 ish and i know here it is a recall so the dealer will fix it for free

@saabkyle04 yup i was looking at a 2003 chevy silverado and it had the same problem with the speedo so i called the locan gm dealer and they said it was a recall from 2003-2005 i think and they would fix it for free
