at first when i seen the title of this video i thought it would be about how generalization of ignorant people look at hip hop and black people because well....some ppl depict the image of BLACK ppl as "thuggish" lookish as in baggy jeans and bling, violent, and rude gunslanging slangs outta they mouths and the video was ok....i dont think it was that effective but i understood what you meant. keep it up
interesting vid.i do think those dolls personify ignorance in some way.the big doll really looked like a black slave from the 1800s.and the little one was just.....stupid looking lol,but those dolls are not ugly and they do represent our history in some way,
Those dolls and other objects with "blackface" are jus perfect examples of how white people viewed us at tha time...but to be honest they do it to themselves too... hell look at a brabie and ken doll, who really looks like that...
I agree that is it sad. Golliwogs in my opinion were created to form a idealistic view of racism or send a image to other of what racists felt an acceptable role should be. This was to try and prevent both blacks and whites ability to scope out the seriousness of racism and the potential that blacks had. It was also to prevent others from seeing the beauty within the black community. The same beauty that many racists tried to keep hidden with distorted images.
yo dude you seem to know alot about this stuff we covered the whole slavery nd shit in my history class and when i heard about golliwogs i thought it was just really racist but now... im not tryin to be cruel or anythin but is there any harm in a black doll? i mean i think they are pretty damn cool cool to be honest and like somebody came up with this idea that its "racist" but if it was wight no black people would say its racist. not bein mean just saying. what do you think?
I'm glad that you were educated about this topic but what exactually is it that you find "cool" about those dolls? Now in Retrospect, americans really do need to know that these Golliwog dolls exist because its the biggest proof in history that shows people what white americans thought about blacks and slaves.
i actually like them and think there beautiful, these dolls was actually childrens toys that white children played with too and wanted i personally dont see whats wrong with them nor see how they are racist im sure you can find dolls like that with a lower class look with white faces that look nothing like a white person but there just dolls for children and proberly made by a child if it is racist then all dolls in this design are racist regarless of color and clowns are also racist lol
Ive seen them dolls before in the UK called 'golliwogs'. Which are black dolls made maybe in the 1940/50's. There was also STILL a picture of one on a brand of jam called 'Robertsons' until it got taken off because of racism about 2001.
I automatically think of slave masters sitting around on the porch drinking lemonade, lookin all sweaty and nasty looking...Make sure if u have someone over for a date, those are not layin next to your bed though..lol!!
The first word I thought of was "aunt".

Those dolls NEED to exist... for all the people who try to act like Minstrel times and negative black media didn't exist.
It's a part of ALL of our history... Black history is American history.
Jazz is the ONLY true American musical art form and it was founded in the south on slave plantations...
