Bottle ends, are usually set up end to end with some type of flashing or thin metal to make a tube that can be held together with a rubber band until the motar sets. Rob Roy has some very good examples in his videos or books.
I do not think that Bruce and Nancy did anything special to their log ends. I will ask the next time that I see them.

I think that this cottage was built before Stoneview.
Its Bruce's design I think.
It was original not going to have a center post.
Rob R. would know.

WOW that is an awesome cabin! I LOVE the glass in the walls. So pretty and cant beat the nice warm wood stove! Just like at my daddy's house!
