Oh my God!! Wish they return to music scene, Its a lot better than the 80s now. 'Reincarnation'? If there's no reincarnation I would like to go back blah blah blah blah. God bless you Sis. This group will be hot when they return. Wow!, Lijadu is a household name O. I'd like to design some fabulous outfit for a video. Wow! No be small! I hope they just get on with it. Bless you sisters.
British Decca Recording company back then exploited the artists for paltry sum. Decca sold their records in millions yet they lived no luxurious life, the artists didn't even own a car. Decca set rules of extortion to exploit back then. I wish they could come back again.
I just got to know about these women. I am falling in love with them already. I am in a younger generation (late 80s). very interesting to hear such enlightment of Nigerian women in the 70s.
@ 3:14 I think the commentator is the one who is bitter and disillusioned...the sisters are speaking from experience so I don't really get where the disillusion comes from
Who told u they are still active? Can't you see this recording was done long ago (probably in the 1980s)? Can't you see the afro hairstyles of the men, the old-school fashion and the simple lifestyles then? Also, can't you see the quality of the commentary that it is old school? Keep on waiting. Maybe till you reincarnate to the "next life". Reincarnation my foot!
It's a good thing that somebody has the time to bring out this old and important musics. I just remember lijadu sister and i typed it in YOUTube search engine. I was happy that somebody has done a good job of posting their music for the new generations to hear and see them. Good job! Oronbaba!
The Lijadu sisters can be found on an incredible compliation double cd called Nigeria 70. I have also found their music used by dj's spinning eclectic house. The Lijadu have a loyal following. They chose to blend and experiment with traditional Nigerian sounds. These sisters helped to lead a new African feminist identity. They came out of the shadows as background singers to become an important group in their own right. They have been idle in recent years. I only hope they will become active.
Wow... i feel really "cheated"! This is really pissing me off! (lol). Where is all this BEAUTIFUL music, now? Sometimes I wish I was born during that time.
Wow!!! just simply wow!!! Obviously the culture in the music industry hasn't changed.....why didn't we take heed....they must have felt like they were just spining their wheels. Wonder if more ppl. had jumped on the bandwagon to prevent exploitation by the industry...may be we won't be frantically seraching for them....can only wonder....
This makes me to remember when Nigeria was really great. I hope more 'Lijadu Sisters' will arise in due course. I pray for God's infinite blessings on them wherever they are.
love you ladies!
