  • I have heard this song many times before but it still always brings out strong emotions in me. Somehow this song taps into loneliness really well.

  • Why do people have to over-complicate this? He is a great songwriter. There's nothing else to say. Who cares about anything else? He writes great songs.

  • You say this song was on the My So Called Life Soundtrack? That's incredible. Which episode?

  • @NintendoSegaSonyGuy I'm actually not sure. I was quite little when that show was on so I don't remember the individual episodes very well. I just know it was on a CD my cousin had of the soundtrack. It doesn't specify the episode on imdb either.

  • @mepsib

It's just funny, because reruns of the show have been being shown on the SunDance channel. My sister and I have been watching them recently. From the numerous episodes we've seen so far, I can't recall ever hearing this song.

If you've never watched the show, I highly recommend that you do sometime.

  • @NintendoSegaSonyGuy I remember the characters quite well (esp. Jordan Catalano!), but I think most of the themes/plots probably went right over my head - I'd like to see it again as an adult just for all the nineties nostalgia!

  • I'm going with YunaBonbeurre. This song is perfect, without an "imperfection" that mepsib is claiming. It's just blowing me away.

  • @NintendoSegaSonyGuy My point is that nothing is perfect, and his music is not perfect by CONVENTIONAL standards. Which makes it, in its own context, perfect because he is not concerned with being conventional anyway. You are all misunderstanding my point, which actually originally was in response to someone ELSE claiming an imperfection. I don't know why refering to something as not being perfect is considered a negative thing - it's a compliment.

  • @mepsib

Typically, saying something is not perfect when someone really likes it is regarded as a negative thing. But now I see your point. Nothing is really perfect. By claiming something has a character flaw, it makes it seem complete. Some people just happen to take that the wrong way.

  • @NintendoSegaSonyGuy I totally agree. In conventional contexts, imperfection seems like a negative thing, but when someone or something is completely individual, the perfection is in the imperfection, if that makes sense.

  • This song is great. I think a lot of people can't grasp his music because they don't know the back story of his life. I tell everyone to watch "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" and THEN listen to the music. I promise, you'll love it and it's sweet, simple, complexity.

  • cuz reality suuuucks lol

  • If art is a reflection of the artist, it should be imperfect.

  • @BigBruinekool Music is art, and art immitates life. So if your life isn`t perfect why should your music be?

  • @dropd26 Another great way of saying it.

  • i love that tape cover...how they are shoveling ideas into his head and its feeding his ego

  • this song makes me miss my ex.

  • this song is perfect, it captures the sound of a real tortured soul.

  • To mepsib & TheScissorhandsKhemi :

Where do you hear "non-perfect performance" or "imperfection" ?!

    This song is PERFECT.

    A great great love song.

  • @YunaBonbeurre The imperfection is what makes it perfect to me. His singing is far from conventionally 'good' or attractive but that is what makes it more relateable and beautiful.

  • hahaha "Cuuuzz Reaality Suckss".... lol that line made me laugh

  • Daniel Johnston is perfectly imperfect!

  • @kkknoxskorner Nothin' wrong with being picky! :) It's just all down to individual taste really, isn't it?

  • brilliant

  • You can also find it on the soundtrack to My So Called Life.

    My favourite song by Daniel...

  • Hey is this on any of his original albums or cassettes?

  • @giorgioarmanizavos Yeah, it was originally on Hi, How Are You (1983, I think - early 80s anyway). I got it from the Please Don't Feed The Ego best of.

  • @mepsib its not on hi how are you... only on a 7 inch record

  • @Ddiggah Ah, so it is - I have that album burned on a blank disc with some other songs including Come See Me Tonight so mistakenly thought the song was part of that album

  • So far every single song I've heard from johnston is brilliant.

  • Some people just cant be over produced because they are so damn unique and original that is why DANIEL JOHNSTON IS A BADASS

  • if u can catch this vibe...

This songs blows my mind! Big Fan BiG love...

  • shivers down my spine .... :)

  • i trully like his imperfection, its what makes the music so great ..

  • @TheScissorhandsKhemi Excellent point!

  • Like many of Johnston's songs, this is brilliant song-writing from the lyrics to the music. And like usual, the performance is not ideal. I hope Johnston will let more people cover more of his fantastic songs, because while he does sing well at times, his vocal talent can't do justice to all of his songs.

  • Personally, it's his non-perfect performance that makes me like the song in the first place. I would hate this song if it didn't have his strange vocals. His voice seem to fit the lyrics more than a better trained one, in my opinion.

  • Great Great Song!!!

  • almost unbearable intense this song

    there are so many Laurie's..

  • anyone know what that says in the bubble on the album cover?

  • It says "Oh well, thank you very much." And the words at the top near the titles say "Munch munch."

  • wow this is a great song.the melody is dreamy

  • It's all about Laurie man ... he 's so obsessed

  • He believes in true love...a little too much, but it's ok because it fuels his work.

  • This song is awesome.

  • One of my all time favorite songs. Played it on my radio show when I had one.

  • Cool when was that? What type of radio show did you have?

  • It was a local University (Indie type station) I called my spot "The Soundtrack Cafe". After the first time I played this song I got requests every week for this and Casper from the Kids soundtrack. It was so much fun doing it I really miss it. I also would throw in some Smurf tunes for fun :)

  • Wow that's like my dream show! I'm obsessed with soundtracks! Man I wish I could have a show like that :)

  • Check with your local University. Most take volunteers (sometimes odd hours of the day though) to fill spots. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the advice batman, I might do that if I have time between all the horrible essays! :)

  • Keep me posted on the radio spot if you can. Good luck with the essays :) Get the rules on what you can play too...I couldn't play mainstream songs that one would normally hear on mainstream stations but that is what made it fun. :)

  • Yeah might see whether they have room for an extra student next semester at my college radio station, and thanks for wishing me luck with the dreaded essays, i'll need it!

  • Don't mention it. Anytime.

  • Love this one!
