Frodo and Sam's friendship is the purest friendship you can imagine. every time i think of them and their selflessness, it moves me to tears. and the grey havens scene when the music goes up and they hug (the most emotional hug ever), it just breaks my heart.
this is a lovely song and a lovely video. great compilation with 2 of my favourite characters from the trilogy
The part with Frodo and Sam at the Grey Havens aaaalways makes me cry in the movie. And it fits so well with the part of the song that you put it with! Thanks for posting this. :) <3
I love this soooo much! The music and video really show the heart of the special friendship between Frodo and Sam. Just fantastic! Thank you Emmatuck.
Oh lord. That was one of the better videos I've seen in a while for Sam. I loved it's simple quality and how it said so much with so few words. I also like how you ended it with my favourite last line ever " Well, I'm back." Thank you!
Oh wow. I didn't even know they had written, composed and performed a song from Frodo to Sam. I'm guwssing this might have been mentioned in the extended edition DVD extras which I never watched all through... Anyway, beautiful video!! And I love the song... though I love Into the West more.
"The suggestions that have been made that I 'disapprove' of the films, vent to the extent of thinking ill of those with whom I may differ, are wholly without foundation."
- Christopher Tolkien
p.s. thank you for the video upload. the music of the movie is one of my favorite elements of the entire production :)
why am i?. I'm merely expressing an opinion. You can't honestly say that the films are accurate to the books, not can you say that reading the same book 5 times a year is particularly normal or justified! If i had said something truly rude, or outrageous, then you could have by all means been rude to me back, but I'm only expressing the other side to the sickening gushing praise of this video seen below! Tolkien himself would have disapproved of the song and films too! he would have hated them!
As someone who has been an avid Annie Lennox fan for some 27 years, I can say this is definitely her singing a beautiful song, but I must admit that the video doesn't do the song justice. But thank you for sharing the beautiful song with us, emmatuck!
this is very bad, its a mish mash of edited quotes ftom the book and its doesn't fit well together. i think i now realise how limited howard shore is. its an example of how bad these film truly are. it also shows how crap an actor elijah wood is compared to ian holm. if you want to hear a good adaptation then listen to the 1981 radio version not the crappy films that are already showing major flaws and script inadequacies.
and if you read lotr 5 times a year, you need to get out more, even tolkien would laugh at you, sorry, but its true! and if you can really speak elvish then, although its an achievement, you need to move on and actually do something else with your life, its a bit sad to be honest. and if any of you want this at your funeral, then your relatives and those in the congregation would be laughing at your for what can only described as an obssession!!??...
I speak some Elvish, read the books five times a year, but that's not my whole life! Please, try to be open that some of us here are mothering three children at age 14, as well as taking care of grandparents.
i recommend u read the sillmarillion or Tolkien's histroy of middle earth books because they are brilliant and i can speak elvish lol (the Quenya form only because not as much of the Sindarin form is known as the Quenya form) so any elvish u need to know im here
In the extended ed of the movies, it is explained that this was the first song they wrote for RotK, but they didn't think it really fit. Into the West was made not only for the movie, but in remembrance of a teenage guy that visited the set. I think he had cancer, but he really wanted to be a producer. But after his set visit, he passed away. Therefore, Into the West was featured.
This is a beautiful song, and I like how they used quotes from the book.
I'm still happy that they decided on Into the West instead though. I think the melody, tone, and words of the song fit the ending and credits of the movie more than this would have done. I do wish this was on the OST though...
I think Into The West is more "official" as it were, or a collective thing (Elves, hobbits who are into Elvish stuff, etc). This song however is more personal to Frodo, very very personal, and its choice of quotes is interesting to say the least. The Green World is a little known draft by Tolkien, a version of a "happy ending" for the tale; "Night too shall be beautiful" is Frodo's quote of Arwen's wedding, and a ref to the old Cosmology; the White Tree is about Numenor... it's not accidental...
Yes, this song took more directly from Tolkien's work, and is a very good song. Along with "Into the West", the songs written for this movie were, in my opinion, the best in the series. "Into the West" was, I believe, written to sound like a song Galadriel is singing (which I also think is why they wanted Annie Lennox's voice). I always associate this song with Frodo and Sam.
I think it's really good that Annie (or someone who writes her songs) used like quotations of the book (or the film). It only makes the song... even closer to Tolkien and to my heart.
And yeah, I should comment this vid. Good job, I like it. xD

yeah, how did u get the song? its not on iTunes, is it on one of her cds? i know the song was supposed to take the place of into the west, but they thought into the west was more relavant so they cut it out. and its not on the complete recordings, but it should be on the new booklet and cd coming out in november, with all the unused themes and songs and stuff.

It's the version Frodo sings before he meats the Elves in the last chapter, before he sets sail for Valinor.
