ok thanks bc im getting ready to order another one i have a sam houston that needs alil repair work and repainted but i want a new yorker.... do you guys do any repairs on helmets
5-stars all the way. I've got a quick question though. I used to have an 880 and a lot of guys around said the older 880's are extremly unsafe to wear, do you guys know why?
@ThatGuyE265 Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately, we don't have information about helmets made before 2000, which is when we acquired Cairns. That said, NFPA 1851 does state that helmets should be retired 10 years from the manufacturing date, so please be sure that your helmet fits that age range. Let us know if you need anything else!
Ok so here's my thing. I am thinking about getting a leather helmet in the very near future but some on the guys in my department that have bought either the N5A or N6A will get them in the mail and the paint is already chipping and what not and I don't know if it's due to MSA/Cairns or the seller themselves but if I'm gonna spend that much on a helmet, I don't want to be getting it and it looks like I've already worn it on some calls.
@epiphonelp100g Thanks for the comment! Right now, we don't have any plans to put the Defender Visor into those models. The 880 dome is too small for the Defender Visor to fit inside, and the leather helmets have the suspension attached in such a way that the Defender Visor can't pass from the inside to the outside of the helmet.
I have a cairns 1044 with the defender visor in place and it's actually saved my eyes a few times, but I'm looking into bourkes simply for the looks. The helmet itself doesn't have the holes for bourkes. Do you have any instructions for drilling the holes?
@oneangryfilm Glad to hear the Defender Visor has worked so well for you! Cairns Bourkes ship with a template and instructions for drilling the holes. Good Luck!
@ethan7447 Depending upon the eye protection you choose to include, the list price is around $750. You can purchase these from your local distributor. Go to our Web site and click "Where to Buy". Thanks!
I still wear the old new yorker helmets , all that new stuff in it makes it too heavy and guys I know got neck problems do to the weight of those new helmets , so most people I know buy the old ones because there much easier to work in and the chiefs let us wear them because he knows how heavy the new ones are great video though
@backdraftmagnet Cairns' lowest profile traditional style helmet is the 880 Tradition. In fact, it's the smallest Traditional style helmet available from any manufacturer. Another low profile choice is the Cairns 660C Metro or Invader 664 with Defender Visor. Both are streamlined modern style helmets, and with the Defender Visor option, there is no hardware outside of the helmet shell. Hope this helps!

I like cairns but the brim has gotten smaller over the years, making water shed easy to run down my neck. Make it bigger and i'll buy them again.

Will Cairns ever put the Defender Visor in the 880 Chicago, or maybe the New Yorker and Houston?

Can someone tell me what helmets they use in the FDNY?
Ex1le2 8 months ago
@Ex1le2 Cairns helmets are not used by FDNY, although they are widely used in the NYC metro area.
