Yes, this is what the government, the media says. However, the changes in the retirement age are only a part of a bigger hardcore-capitalist agenda. I would support the raise in retirement age in my country provided that the politians make it clear, that they fight for reforming the instable capitalist system and at least struggle for taxing the rich.

Now their government says they are going broke? where is all the money going? oh, and in France the quality of life is much more important then it is here in the USA, meaning that they want to retire at a nearlier age and enjoy a larger part of their lives. French were protesting against bailout when it happened & they are definitely not happy that their government didn't listen to them, since they are the one's to pay for it's consequences. People just had enough and they are fully aware that if they don't fight now they will have to pay much higher price later. This is something that american public still doesn't get.
