  • so pretty

  • @VedicIntelligentsia And how would create this utopian society? You people are always quick to blame, but never come up with a viable solution.

  • Hello! Have you thought about intellectus 424 diet (just google it)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my buddy lost crazy amounts of weight with it.

  • my dad had the same as yours and i went to visit him in Hospital and they gave him cheese and crackers the day after his heart attack,i was like OMG u cant eat cheese its bad and i moved it over to the other side of the table, hes got no clue about nutrition i did tell him but he wont listen

  • Thank you for sharing this. My mother had the same surgery and I kid you not, the menu actually offered a "philly cheese steak!" My poor Mom was so hungry she told me to order it. I said no way! Mom has passed on now, but she lived 25 years longer than she should have. Her diet was not perfect, but she wasn't eating cheese steaks!

  • Your story about your father has so imspired me to push through and change my life style. Thank you for shareing this story.

  • No wonder the career outlook for the medical profession looks so good. As far as real health care reform goes in this country, it can only happen by each and everyone of us taking responsibility for our own health. With that comes education. By that I mean looking into alternatives to the traditional paradigm on health care. Diet and exercise is a good place to start.

  • WOOOOOOOW. Simply wonderful :)

  • Please open your eyes. I remember when I was twelve years old, in the hospital for a check up and could go to the lobby and buy cigarettes from machines. Now they have MacDonald's.. Hospitals are not about making people well...they don't work with you to change your lifestyle that made you sick. They are in the disease business. You have to take care of your own health.

  • A family friend just posted this on Facebook. I sent her this video. What she wrote:

My Dad just had his aortic heart valve replaced along w a double bypass last monday and the nurse that came 2 visit suggested today that he needed more carbs and protien. she suggested a "Big Mac"! WTF...he's diabetic and 71 yrs old...have IQ's dropped in the last week? Something is wrong and a multi death obesity corporation isnt going 2 heal the sick...Friggin livid!

  • Wow having a McGarbage in a Cardio Clinik is like selling liqueur in a Betty Ford Center!

The Health System is more about money than health. Healthy people don't bring money so...!

  • Truly amazing. Thank you so much !

  • It's strange that in 1970's we were screaming about bad school lunches, hospital foods, elder care facility foods. And now 40 years later the general public seems even less concerned that ever. I think the way we feed ourselves & our children is an addiction all the way around: purchase, preparation & eating of food is an emotional thing, habit, comfort, craving, guilt, price, convenience & controversy. We live to please our emotionally driven taste buds! We don't eat for health! Sad, but true

  • In spite of the annoying music and bad editing, this is a really good video! It would be more effective, however, if they had not embedded the music and just let Dina speak.

  • i work on a cancer ward and the food that we serve to people is awful! i know i won't eat it. i personally have complained and complained to no avail. unfortunately it is cheaper and easier to provide food that is dead and unhealthy. its ironic that hospitals continue to justify feeding their patients this way when we are suppose to heal people. many families bring in food for there loved ones and many of my patients prefer not to eat than eat the hospital food!

  • Typical hospital incompetence and indifference -- prevention is the key so you don't end up being a victim of these idiots!

  • A raw food lifestyle with reasonable exercise can sure turn an unhealthy life aorund. You just got to give it a try.

    Great video and words. Thanks

  • this is soooo sad! =(

  • gooood video!!!

  • Awesome. The whole 'sick care vs. health care' was eye opening. I'm a nutrition student, but enjoy learning about the more holistic approach to health- I can't wait to be able to offer knowledge about veganism and the benefits...what a great story!

  • I will not boycott Whole Foods. I agree that what we need is not government intervention but personal responsibility. Only a mindless drone would follow anything that the government promotes. The problem is not now, nor has it ever been a lack of insurance.

  • EXCELLENT video!!!! Thank you.

  • wars kill people, hospitals kill people, cars kill people, food kills people, smoking kills people, alcohol kills people, all given to you and controlled by the governments, many will never get to grips with the facts that the governments act like farmers ,and the people the sheep, the government are not your friends,so why do you people rely on the doctors who have no knowledge and no love.

  • What a wonderful vid. Thanks so much for the upload

  • So true

  • Crazy.

  • Not all hospitals are like this but I agree vegetarian diets work.

  • I remember as a little kid people always joking about how the hospital food will kill you! WHY THE **** WERE THEY JOKING ? Comedy shows on TV too.

  • thats so true in hospitals they dont have a diet healing program meat salt sugar and fat friture should allways be avoid during the convalescence,it is actualy a scandal cozz the people are paying to get healed and finaly die cozz of diet..but most of people dont know about it. even doctors dont care.

  • We had the exact same experience when visiting my father-in-law in the hospital after a bowel resection for diverticulitis. He is also type II diabetic and has heart problems. Aside from literally starving him for almost 7 days, the first solid thing he was given was aspirin, his first meal was Hungarian goulash! OMG, and we wonder why this country is so unhealthy????

  • I have a question--if your father was already a vegan, **how on earth did he come to require a quadruple bypass**??? Yes, I agree that hospital food is poison, but if his diet was so healthy before he almost lost his life, that does not compute. So you put him back on a vegan diet and you had him add some exercise. I'm missing something here.

  • Yes, avalonwitch, you did miss something. He was not a vegan or vegetarian before the operation. She just said that to the dietitian to hear what the response would be and what they would change on his diet. This is very inspirational......

  • I talked with an old Iranian guy this week after his quadruple bypass. He was riding his bike at night on a 75-mile mountain ride, preparing for a 750-mile race. He looked quite healthy. Obviously no Swedish meatballs in his diet.

  • BRAVO Dina. You should send this video to Dr. John McDougall and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., they would both be so very proud of you.

I have to shake my head and I am in total agreement about hospital food. It's a crying shame this diet is fed to anyone, never mind those in critical cardiac care. The sad reality as well, is Senior Homes... they continue to provide at least two meat dishes per day, not no mention cakes, cookies, dairy, cheese, etc.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Very great info to share....we had similar experience at Seattle childrens. My critique is.... you gotta remake.....story telling is a bit cavalier and editng is distracting.

  • God bless you Dina!

  • Excuse me, your father is Damon Knight, the science fiction writer?

  • Re: The author Damon Knight:

(1922 - 2002) American science fiction author, critic, and founder of the SFWA. He was married for many years to author Kate Wilhelm. YouTube was founded in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal. As Damon Knight died in 2002 and YouTube was born in 2005 it is unlikely this author is Chef Dina Knight's dad. This Chef Dina Knight YouTube clip was posted in 2008.

  • Oh, sorry. I loved Damon Knights books.

  • Okay, I just re-watched this. She says her dad's name is Damon Knight. How many of them could there be?

  • There are cartoons from the 40s and 50s on Youtube that were obviously posted after the fact.... Could that not be the case here? All forms of video media can be converted into forms that can be used on here.

  • She says her father is Damon Knight at 2:31. Are there two?

  • There's a Taco Bell on the first floor of mine :P

  • Great video, Chef Dina! I totally sympathize with your hospital food experience: after my mom had colon surgery, her first hospital meal featured milk and chocolate cake! Major constipators! I turned on the pallid, tubby little dietician and practically screwed her into the ground. Glad you got something positive and fulfilling out of your experience. Keep up the good work!

  • It's amazing, most MD's are clueless and overweight, that's what happens when your educational system is supported by big pharma.

  • thanks great video!

  • OMG! the first floor was a McDonalds - where is this! Hold COW! thanks for posting this! Wow!

  • Thank you Dina for having the courage and posting this video. Warmest wishes

  • Great video :-)

  • my 11 year old son just asked me recently why is there a Mcdonalds on the first floor of the hospital. I can't even explain it, why people don't get it. God's people perish for lack of knowledge, and thats all I know, hopefully with the training of young minds we can change things like this. Great video!!!

  • Thank you for your comments. It's so true education is the key! Your son is lucky to have you as his mom!

    Chef Dina

  • great video!! thx
