one thing that does not make sense is how the hell palaptine was able to hang onto anakin and obi wans feet while falling down a lift shaft despite them not knowing he can use the force it just seems a bit chessy how he was able to do that when they were falling forwards the whole time then managed to quickly turn round again before flying into the door way.

The start of this movie shows all that is wrong with the Prequels (and the one right thing -- the great special effects) -- it starts off majestic, then turns silly, then there is slapstick, then a vicious duel and an execution, then back to silliness, etc. The tone is all over the place and it continuously undercuts any emotional impact of the movie.

Add in that the dialogue is at times laughingly bad and you get a potentially great movie ruined by Lucas' pitiful writing.
