@94xoxogossipgirl Well, you’d never know it, with Zakharova’s disregard for line or placement, both sacrificed at the altar of super-high extensions. No question, she can create some beautiful poses, as in the absolutely gorgeous Swan Lake arabesque in the blue leotard, but often, her priority seems to be getting her leg as high as possible, in which case she really belongs in rhythmic gymnastics or a circus freak show.
@avesraggiana Her flexibility is one of her strengh. You can't deny that hitting a split is more beautiful to look suck at 150°. It's lighter, more pleasant and elegant to watch. I also am a RG fan and the gymnasts go much farther in their oversplit than Sveta. Sames goes for what you nicely called artists in "circus freak show". She is an incredible ballerina and her swan lake interpretation is among the best.
@Missnewyork28 This is a matter of personal taste and preference. Svetlana Zakharova has made a place for herself in the hearts of many, many ballet lovers. Just not mine.
@avesraggiana I respect your opinion. It is your right not to like her style, though it's not a reason to be disrespectful toward circus artists and Svetlana. Just sayin.
@Missnewyork28 Thank you, and I’m sorry for my unintended slight towards circus artists, who are artists in their own right. I enjoy their performances too. And I’m also sorry if you took offense at my disparaging remarks about Svetlana Zakharova. Her performances I have not enjoyed.
@avesraggiana I did not take it personally but both Svetlana and circus artists work so hard that even if I don't even circus artists, I think they don't deserve to be considered as freaks... I totally understand you don't like Sveta's style, it's a matter of taste and I don't mind. It what makes diversity :)
@avesraggiana The pointe shoes are a tell-tale sign that it is ballet. But it is a very perceptive question, since the degree of flexibility exhibited and the resulting body shapes are more similar historically to rhythmic gymnastics.

шпагат - это ещё не балет. так что, учитесь лучше танцевать, госпожа захарова, это вам не в думе под ручку с властной элитой гулять.

For a video titled "No. 1 ballerina" I was hoping to see more than just splits and 6 o'clock extensions. I understand the sarcasm.
