I am very happy to see the vidoe To meet the challenges of building an enormous bridge, a design competition is held and unbelievable ideas are formulated after you give this
I Love The Video It Can Increase My Knowledge To meet the challenges of building an enormous bridge, a design competition is held and unbelievable ideas are formulated
@muffinproject You are correct. But in the scenario of heavy winds and waves, the ship might drift it to the bridge and thus smashing into the supports.
I don't actually understand why the arch bridge was ruled out. Shipping always have shipping lanes and just as they negotiate natural structures, they could stay away from the lower reaches of the arch. Okay, I'm not an engineer so perhaps giving instructions to ship operators like, "don't get closer than 50 metres to the piling" is not sufficient. Great idea for a competition. Way better than American Idol.
It is very easy Pentagon has already invented and using nano-structure concrete technology but they only keep it secret to use for human killing technology. So just ask them and create any bridge you like. Even butterfly bridge is possible.
concerning the arch bridge and ships hitting it, couldn't they build an island around the supports? A ship would then strike the island/run aground, but maybe that's too expensive
OK. I see some well reasoned arguments in favor of this construction. As long as it works well, is economic, safe etc. there can be some degree of satisfaction in that. As for beauty; that is in the eye of the beholder & what works well in a museum may not always be desirable for practical considerations.
The argument against the arch bridge is actually stupid. There is no reason for ships to pass by so close to the piers as to cause damage. Tthey're supposed to look where they're going so put guide markers there. It is a very nice lokking bridge.. But if the argument is made that it is too expensive where a less costly bridge can provide the same service; well then that's a different story that makes sense.
@chimay131 Accidents happen all the time, whether through human error or natural phenomena. Yes, there is no reason for any ship under normal circumstances to pass close enough to cause fatal damage, but that doesn't mean that it would never happen. The final design prevents this possibly fatal issue. A boat ramming the towers could still cause damage, but they're less susceptible to operator error, and reinforced concrete is going to hold up to impact a little better than steel cables. SFTY1ST!
the arch bridge wasn't entirely a failure. with barricade features to prevent ships from running into them at those low points would have made it a realistic alternative.
the barricades must be attached to the bridge so if a ship hits barricade it hits the bridge which means the bridge would be instable again... all in all this documentary is putting a not needed dramatic on this bridge cause it is totally clear that the last design is the best xD...but stillan arche bridge is more beautiful :D
There's nothing wrong with an arch bridge. If the arch bridge is THAT big, it would require a MASSIVE ship like an ocean liner to damage the arch support by colliding with it, and they do NOT let drunken retards helm ocean liners. And if one by miracle does hit it, then have him executed.
so what you are saying is ''ok, it *might* go very wrong, cos there are ships that could destroy it, but I think it won't happen.....so let's build it!'' ? I'm sorry but, what?!
@rietveen26 Maybe those loose screws in your head aren't helping, so let me try and make this a little bit easier for your bone headed, neanderthalic mind to understand: You do NOT get to be captain of a ship big enough to damage an arch bridge by hitting it's support struts if you are drunk, stupid or incompetent enough to lose control of a massive ship or simply just plow it into the struts.
Do you understand now or is that still to complex for your subhuman mind to understand?
@Versudan ah ok, I get it now...only competent people who cannot make a mistake and are not ultimately at the mercy of the elements are allowed to captain these ships....sure
@rietveen26 lol, obviously you don't get it. If it's so rough at sea that an ocean liner or supercontainer can't be controlled properly, they wouldn't be out at sea in the first place, and if they were, they'd be more worried about capsizing than going under a bridge properly. You're stupidity is amazing. At this point, I can't tell if you are just stupid or if you're just a really substandard troll.
@Versudan obviously I don't get it because you seem to think that accidents can't happen, which is too stupid to be true. I think we are both talking about other things and do not properly communicate :)
@rietveen26 No, 'accidents' as you call them do not happen like this. Considering how much time they have and the distances involved in approaching a bridge like this, no accomplished helmsman of a vessel big enough to damage that sized arch bridge could possibly fuck up an approach like that and say "oops I misjudged." But you say that they all can and do crash. There'd be no bridges left anywhere in the world if what you said was true.
@Versudan yes, I finally understand that what you are saying is that the risk is so small that there is no real argument against this construction, and I would agree with that. It's just that the video gave the impression that this could happen. youtube is not suited for arguments :)
@jpdemers Go type in "cargo ship hits bridge" and see how many cargo ships hit bridges. And before you decide to be a fuckwit, the videos of tugboats crashing into cargoships don't count.
That's right. None. It doesn't happen. And no, the shitty little yachts don't count. They aren't massive enough to pose a credible threat to arch bridge support struts. Even then, that's only... 100 or so bridge crashes in 5000 years of boating? Lol, negligible risk.
within the next 5 years. you will start to see penis' everywhere. apparently there is something going around that n one wants to take credit for cause why would u? it sepeartes people...
anyway....penis' on bridges. look for them. u will see them if u close ur eyes..
@muffinproject Because you know there will be that one idiot who will think he can clear the arch and pass under it. When designing things as engineers you must always assume people are mentally challenged retards.
They could of just put a column sectioning out the bottom of the arch on each side though.
@muffinproject I think they made clear that: 1- In an arch briche when collison happen the whole structure collapses, 2-The probability of a boat going against a normal bridge support and causing damage is lower.
Right, because destroying a pillar of a cable-stayed bridge will not cause the whole to collapse.
Also, arched bridges do not necessarily reach down to the water level. The Chaotianmen bridge for instance (which actually has about a 10% larger span) is raised on pillars and the whole arch is thus many meters above the water.
@forinner Such words are used to get people interested. Would you have been interested in the video, had it been "Hard to Make Bridge" or "Possible Bridge"?
Why don't they just protect the pillars with an extra layer of concrete around it so it's not even possible to get bashed? Just mark the concrete with flags (or those floating-ball-things with ropes to the bottom of the canal which I don't know the name of)..
the first arch bridge would do fine wtf does the ship have to get close to the start of the arch anyway? that was kinda stupid to say that one was out
(Copier-coller le lien ci-dessus dans la barre d'adresse de votre navigateur internet; celui-ci rajoutera automatiquement les éléments manquants du lien.)
@SEVILYA1991 It's between Denmark and Sweden, and has been open for trafic since 2000. It actually spans only half the distance from Sweden to a small island and then there's a tunnel connecting the island with Denmark.
just make an inclined bridge that goes to the top of the bridge and build a train bridge over the car bridge that has a slop on each side making any wind that goes by the bridge slide over it...its a monument, its big and it attracts ppl.
and for the ships...make a tunnel canal...a cannal that goes under the bridge!
why is the arch bridge ruled out because what are the chances that a boat will collide with the bottom of the arch, these engineers are stupid sure you cud just place lights on the low parts + no sailor is dumb enough to crash into one and also the arch looks the best
@afroman127 "No sailor is dumb enough" but accidents happen, especially in bad weather and in water with strong currents. You don't remember the COSCO Busan container ship hitting the Golden Gate Bridge in 2007?
Cable stayed bridges seems to be the popular choice nowadays for really long spans. They all begin to look the same. I can't wait for the next innovative design that could surpass this.
I'm sure happy to be swedish, i don't wanna be a fat american sittin' by the TV complaining about everything when they wont do a shit about it at all. You guys don't even know where the hell Japan is.. In australia? I don't think so.
@Araben222 Since when have americans been fat? Yea the world may think that but i know that not all americans are fat theres a small percentage of fat people. FWI japan is an island near china! Damn i hate mother fuckers who think they know americans.
The reason for ruling out the arch bridge was bullshit. Add some buffers around the lower clearance areas. Of course, this would require the center span to be even wider if they want to maintain the 1500' of navigable water, but hey, better than completely bombing on the idea...
@MwFreezd - Who cares about diamonds, they are so rare? USA is a shit hole compared to Sweden. Homicides / 1000 people (USA = 5.7, SWE = 2.39), Prisoners / 100.000 people (USA = 715, SWE = 75), Rapes / 1000 people (USA = 0.3, SWE = less than 0.0033), Assaults / 1000 people (USA = 7.57, SWE = <0.025), Wars since 1820 (USA = ~270, SWE = 0), Death Penalty (USA = Yes, SWE = NO), Social security (USA = Low, Sweden = Very High), Medical care (USA = Extremely expensive, Sweden = FREE).
@xRennyBx I guess as a U.S. citizen you are taught that things like health care for everyone is socialism and something bad. If you ask me, you can judge a society by how they treat their weakest members. U.S. claims to be the greatest country in the world while topping the crime statistics and letting your citizens live in poverty or get their lives destroyed by the joke you call a health care system. Here we take care of each other and we don't need 5 locks on our door or a gun in our pocket.
@PokerChipNut Nobody said it was right or wrong. I just said we cant all be socialist. You cant switch just switch from capitalist to socialist and expect everything to turn out fine. Especially with the roots already set in capitalism, the US couldn't make a change to socialism without effecting the economy.
@PokerChipNut Also with your comment to MwFreezd- it seems you pulled out all these numbers and tried to compare them to a country with 30+ times more your population, and many variations in laws, legislations, jurisdiction and the process of reporting crimes which may be completely different to your own.
@xRennyBx Uhm, it was MwFreezd who said "who cares about sweden dont like 2000 ppl live there". That's what I responded to. We are only 10 million people but some actually do care about Sweden. Not the U.S. of course, you don't have to learn about us unless you are going to bomb us. Not that we are worth anything. After all you live in the best country in the world & we matter little to you. You even have God on your side. We're just here to accept hundred thousands of your oil war refugees.
@Winterwolf00 - Sorry. We're already swamped with immigrants from the middle east who wants to change our society and take it back a few thousand years. We can't have sane visitors from the civil western world as well who like our society the way it is, who think women are not cattle and that the world is round. That would just be insane. You are welcome back when you have converted to Islam. Im shalah! Now let's go murder our daughters and burn some cars! Allāhu Akbar!! Burn Sweden, burn!!
@PokerChipNut The population of the country of Sweden is a little over 9 Million and the population of New York City alone is a little over 8 Million. The entire US has a population of over 300 Million. Do you see what I'm getting at? Your stats don't mean shit. There are states that can boast the same stats as your country.
@CainmosniMirrored - You can't compare a state with a country. Sweden is known to be a pioneer image in many matters. If you compare our societies you will see that the differences lies in the politics and not in the number of inhabitants.
@PokerChipNut My point was that you cannot base your opinion of the entire population of the US solely on stats. States do not have the Sovereignty that Sweden does so they get clumped into the stats of other more crime ridden states. I live in the State of Maine which has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. I love Maine it is a great place to live. You need to stop being so stereotypical.
@CainmosniMirrored - But that is also true for our counties. It was not an opinion of the population really. More an opinion of a bad political/legal/social system. Yes, the stats are averages including the less crime ridden states and are that high despite of them. They show a society spinning out of control. A society that does not care for it's weak. As Americans you should ask yourselves - would Jesus want us to let our poor/weak/sick suffer, just so that we can lower taxes for the rich?
@PokerChipNut Yeah, maybe the USA is screwed but what can the people really do about it? I am one of the weak. I never voted for Bush. The 2000 election was stolen. Bush signed away all our rights with the Patriot act. If there ever was a revolt in this country the federal government would kill most and imprison the rest and then declare Martial Law and we would be under Military Control. Americans are screwed either way.
@nuen8 - The statistics you mean? They were all taken from reliable sources on the Internet. Feel free to google for usa rapes per capita, usa murders per capita, usa assaults per capita, usa prisoners per capita etc and look through the statistics yourself. At nationmaster you will find the exact same stats as I posted above. USA has, for example, the most prisoners per capita in the world while Sweden comes in 108th place with only 1/10 as many prisoners per capita.
@PokerChipNut im a strong supporter of the death penalty, i proudly live in Texas where we dont let you murder someone and sit on death row for 6 years, if you kill we will kill you back, if you are sentenced to death and your crime is high enough we will put you right up front on death row, other states try to abolish the death penalty, my state's putting in an express lane.
@FalamsProductions Yes, because killing people is such an enlightened way of pursuing justice. It is amazing that you are proud of more executions in your state . . .
@jding19711 yeah just because we dont let people get away with murder, and we serve justice in our state, doesnt mean it's wrong. we dont just do it for any old reason, the ones who are usually executed have been convicted of rape, murder, mass homicide, etc., we are just trying to keep these dickheads off tha streets, and we dont want them in our prisons because that costz money.
@FalamsProductions - Listen too yourself - you're saying that it's right to murder people to save money. You have the death penalty - yet you have very high crime rates. Do you really think that a complete psycho who rape and commits mass homicide consider the death penalty before the commit these crimes? Think again! There's a reason more civil states has got rid of the death penalty. We have shorter prison sentences here yet we have less crime. Think about it!
@FalamsProductions - You belong in a zoo. Go get some more guns. I'm sure all problems in society will be solved once every asshole is running around with a gun in his pocket.
@PokerChipNut 270 WARS since 1820? your a dumb ass that's more than 1 war a year! get your facts straight, maybe battles but there were hundreds of battles in the world wars alone. oh and guess what, you say medical care is free huh? well its not, your just paying it through taxes, so every one gets extremely shitty health care! so it is definatly not free your just paying for it in a different way. YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST IGNORANT PEOPLE I HAVE MET. have a nice day (:
@JayHawkOne1 - No I'm not dumb at all, maybe you are. 270 armed battles, not wars of course. Sorry for not writing 100% perfect english, it's not my native language. I know we are so ignorant over here, after all that's what europeans are known for, right? I only speak 3 languages fluently, how many do you speak? Yes we pay taxes so that we can take care of the weakest in society rather than letting them suffer and die. Maybe in another 100 years you too will have evolved into a humane society.
@WpA09 - Yes. This is related to out-of-control mass immigration. It's very sad to see our country destroyed like this. Apparently, a small town in Sweden accept more Iraqi immigrants than the entire U.S.A. Clearly we can not afford to take care of so many, and we have failed to integrate them in our community. I believe we accept more immigrants per capita than any other country in Europe. Immigrants from Africa and the middle east are WAY overrepresented in crimes such as rape.
@Geojaguar - So what? Do you prefer that I compare U.S.A. to Germany? Germany have almost 10 times our population, still Germany have stats similar to ours. You can not explain the problems in the U.S.A. by population. It is the politics that is completely screwed. It's a highly capitalistic country with huge social divisions, health care only for the wealthy, hardly any social security, screwed up legal system and a government that invade countries for profit and ignores international law....
@Geojaguar - The stats are "per capita". Even if there were 3 billion people in the U.S.A., the stats are still an average per person. The reason for U.S. outrageous stats is that they don't take care of it's citizens. Their solution is to throw people in jail when their life have already been destroyed, when it is already to late, instead of preventing their life from being ruined in the first place. Oh, and we are 500,000,000 in the EU. Wanna compare stats?
@CallumJ230 - Does slavery, Indian Wars, Native American reservations, segregation, residential schools for Native Americans and internment camps say anything to you? Racist attitudes/prejudice are held by a substantial portion of the U.S. population. Discrimination permeates all aspects of life in the United States and extends to all communities of color. Discrimination against African Americans, Latin Americans, and Muslims is widely acknowledged. In polls, U.S. is considered 2nd most racist.
@Geojaguar - Not only do the U.S.A. have the highest number of prisoners per capita in the world, abuses like those documented in Abu Ghraib are commonplace. Prisoners are shackled and hooded ‘for their own protection’; pepper spray is used as an alternative to physical force, but in sufficient quantities to cause second-degree burns; beatings are frequent and sometimes fatal. A pervasive culture of dehumanisation and brutality. The "greatest country in the world" huh? What a bunch of bull!
"a design competition is held and unbelievable ideas are formulated"....whats so unbelievable about 3 types of bridges that are already present all around the world? its not unbelievable that a normal bridge can just be made bigger....what an exaggeration nat-geo....i see this type of "marketing" alot with nat-geo and discovery channel narration and descriptions...makes me shake my head everytime i see/hear it...

Why don't they just protect the pillars with an extra layer of concrete around it so it's not even possible to get bashed? Just mark the concrete with flags (or those floating-ball-things with ropes to the bottom of the canal which I don't know the name of)..

@SEVILYA1991 It's between Denmark and Sweden, and has been open for trafic since 2000. It actually spans only half the distance from Sweden to a small island and then there's a tunnel connecting the island with Denmark.

just make an inclined bridge that goes to the top of the bridge and build a train bridge over the car bridge that has a slop on each side making any wind that goes by the bridge slide over it...its a monument, its big and it attracts ppl.
and for the ships...make a tunnel canal...a cannal that goes under the bridge!

why is the arch bridge ruled out because what are the chances that a boat will collide with the bottom of the arch, these engineers are stupid sure you cud just place lights on the low parts + no sailor is dumb enough to crash into one and also the arch looks the best
afroman127 1 year ago
@afroman127 and they could just build small pylons in front of the arch so that it cant be hit.. or a simple damn around it..
the arch would have looked the nicest.. i agree : )

The reason for ruling out the arch bridge was bullshit. Add some buffers around the lower clearance areas. Of course, this would require the center span to be even wider if they want to maintain the 1500' of navigable water, but hey, better than completely bombing on the idea...

@PokerChipNut We all cant be socialist like Sweden can we.
xRennyBx 1 year ago
@xRennyBx I guess as a U.S. citizen you are taught that things like health care for everyone is socialism and something bad. If you ask me, you can judge a society by how they treat their weakest members. U.S. claims to be the greatest country in the world while topping the crime statistics and letting your citizens live in poverty or get their lives destroyed by the joke you call a health care system. Here we take care of each other and we don't need 5 locks on our door or a gun in our pocket.
PokerChipNut 1 year ago 3
@PokerChipNut Nobody said it was right or wrong. I just said we cant all be socialist. You cant switch just switch from capitalist to socialist and expect everything to turn out fine. Especially with the roots already set in capitalism, the US couldn't make a change to socialism without effecting the economy.
xRennyBx 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut Also with your comment to MwFreezd- it seems you pulled out all these numbers and tried to compare them to a country with 30+ times more your population, and many variations in laws, legislations, jurisdiction and the process of reporting crimes which may be completely different to your own.
xRennyBx 1 year ago
@xRennyBx Uhm, it was MwFreezd who said "who cares about sweden dont like 2000 ppl live there". That's what I responded to. We are only 10 million people but some actually do care about Sweden. Not the U.S. of course, you don't have to learn about us unless you are going to bomb us. Not that we are worth anything. After all you live in the best country in the world & we matter little to you. You even have God on your side. We're just here to accept hundred thousands of your oil war refugees.

Winterwolf00 1 year ago
@Winterwolf00 - Sorry. We're already swamped with immigrants from the middle east who wants to change our society and take it back a few thousand years. We can't have sane visitors from the civil western world as well who like our society the way it is, who think women are not cattle and that the world is round. That would just be insane. You are welcome back when you have converted to Islam. Im shalah! Now let's go murder our daughters and burn some cars! Allāhu Akbar!! Burn Sweden, burn!!
PokerChipNut 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut The population of the country of Sweden is a little over 9 Million and the population of New York City alone is a little over 8 Million. The entire US has a population of over 300 Million. Do you see what I'm getting at? Your stats don't mean shit. There are states that can boast the same stats as your country.
CainmosniMirrored 1 year ago
@CainmosniMirrored - You can't compare a state with a country. Sweden is known to be a pioneer image in many matters. If you compare our societies you will see that the differences lies in the politics and not in the number of inhabitants.
PokerChipNut 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut My point was that you cannot base your opinion of the entire population of the US solely on stats. States do not have the Sovereignty that Sweden does so they get clumped into the stats of other more crime ridden states. I live in the State of Maine which has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. I love Maine it is a great place to live. You need to stop being so stereotypical.
CainmosniMirrored 1 year ago
@CainmosniMirrored - But that is also true for our counties. It was not an opinion of the population really. More an opinion of a bad political/legal/social system. Yes, the stats are averages including the less crime ridden states and are that high despite of them. They show a society spinning out of control. A society that does not care for it's weak. As Americans you should ask yourselves - would Jesus want us to let our poor/weak/sick suffer, just so that we can lower taxes for the rich?
PokerChipNut 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut Yeah, maybe the USA is screwed but what can the people really do about it? I am one of the weak. I never voted for Bush. The 2000 election was stolen. Bush signed away all our rights with the Patriot act. If there ever was a revolt in this country the federal government would kill most and imprison the rest and then declare Martial Law and we would be under Military Control. Americans are screwed either way.
CainmosniMirrored 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut now i know you have evidence to back that up, unless you want to admit that you made it off the top of your head.
nuen8 1 year ago
@nuen8 - The statistics you mean? They were all taken from reliable sources on the Internet. Feel free to google for usa rapes per capita, usa murders per capita, usa assaults per capita, usa prisoners per capita etc and look through the statistics yourself. At nationmaster you will find the exact same stats as I posted above. USA has, for example, the most prisoners per capita in the world while Sweden comes in 108th place with only 1/10 as many prisoners per capita.

FalamsProductions 1 year ago
@FalamsProductions Yes, because killing people is such an enlightened way of pursuing justice. It is amazing that you are proud of more executions in your state . . .
jding19711 1 year ago
@jding19711 yeah just because we dont let people get away with murder, and we serve justice in our state, doesnt mean it's wrong. we dont just do it for any old reason, the ones who are usually executed have been convicted of rape, murder, mass homicide, etc., we are just trying to keep these dickheads off tha streets, and we dont want them in our prisons because that costz money.
FalamsProductions 1 year ago
@FalamsProductions - Listen too yourself - you're saying that it's right to murder people to save money. You have the death penalty - yet you have very high crime rates. Do you really think that a complete psycho who rape and commits mass homicide consider the death penalty before the commit these crimes? Think again! There's a reason more civil states has got rid of the death penalty. We have shorter prison sentences here yet we have less crime. Think about it!
PokerChipNut 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut well in Texas we really dont give a fuck, and if any state or country fucks with us, prepare to die, because we will kill you.

JayHawkOne1 1 year ago
@JayHawkOne1 - No I'm not dumb at all, maybe you are. 270 armed battles, not wars of course. Sorry for not writing 100% perfect english, it's not my native language. I know we are so ignorant over here, after all that's what europeans are known for, right? I only speak 3 languages fluently, how many do you speak? Yes we pay taxes so that we can take care of the weakest in society rather than letting them suffer and die. Maybe in another 100 years you too will have evolved into a humane society.
PokerChipNut 1 year ago
@PokerChipNut i am from sweden and lately our "rapecount" has incresed and we got a new serialkiller :/ still good though
WpA09 1 year ago
@WpA09 - Yes. This is related to out-of-control mass immigration. It's very sad to see our country destroyed like this. Apparently, a small town in Sweden accept more Iraqi immigrants than the entire U.S.A. Clearly we can not afford to take care of so many, and we have failed to integrate them in our community. I believe we accept more immigrants per capita than any other country in Europe. Immigrants from Africa and the middle east are WAY overrepresented in crimes such as rape.

Geojaguar 1 year ago
@Geojaguar - So what? Do you prefer that I compare U.S.A. to Germany? Germany have almost 10 times our population, still Germany have stats similar to ours. You can not explain the problems in the U.S.A. by population. It is the politics that is completely screwed. It's a highly capitalistic country with huge social divisions, health care only for the wealthy, hardly any social security, screwed up legal system and a government that invade countries for profit and ignores international law....
PokerChipNut 1 year ago 2
@PokerChipNut United States (population)-310,696,000
Germany (population)-81,757,600
o_o by a lot
Geojaguar 1 year ago
