Unless the edges of the plates are completely sealed and prevented from having exposure to the electrolyte, this will not help out with heat. The excess heat comes from current leakage. That takes place at the plate edges. If they are touching electrolyte, they will leak current, even with the heatshrink on there.. You can telll from the vid, after he is done shrinking it that they heatshrink is not tight against the plate edges. I don't see this being a viable solution to the heat issue.
yes I used the same strips for the bottom & power leads - however the metal was too thin and it overheated the bolts (I had a melt down). Anyway I fixed the problem by using heavier gauge metal - hope to install the system soon.
right now I am doing before mileage tests to get a baseline.
I would recomend placing soft THICK rubber pads on a sides before shrink wrap. This will assure plate edge seal. Wrap itself will not go around every edge by itself. Shrinking wrap will press rubber pads into the plate edges thus sealing them effectively.
Great videos, I enjoy them very much. The info on the tubing says that the shrinking temp is 212 degrees. Maybe boiling water will give an even tight shrink better & less damaging than a torch. Maybe 2 pieces of acrylic sheet to cover the plate edges & slotted top & bottom pieces could be slipped under the tubing before completly shrinking. This might seal better & have less chance of splitting due to sharp edges. The tubing might hold them in place after it has shrunk. Just a thought ...
Great idea great video and very annoying music. And after all you think those plates edges are sealed off from each other? Outter plates maybe yes but I would doubt about inner ones. If it had some cushion inside that would squeese in between the plates at least by a bit and seal your edges in that way. Great idea - no more music. Tnx
I have to second that. (OHHHH KAYYY!!!) Great concept, but it doesn't seem to seal off the plates very well. I'm working on the same design and was wondering if there was anything like a rubber edging that could be placed around the edge of each plate. Ideally, one would want some custom-cut gaskets to lay around the inside edges of the plates. Food for thought.
well I like the music so its gonna stay, so you can either ignore it or leave. Not being mean or anything, but these are my vids & I like music. Anyway...
As for the wrapping of the cell, its not to seal the plates from each other, its just to focus the electrolyte thru the plates; from the bottom thru the top. IOW its sealed so as to not waste the electricity.
Please understand this is not a dry cell (which does seal off the plates & runs the water thru it).
please get rid of the music - it is so distracting that it makes you video virtually useless. The problem that I have with Rap is that they left the c off of the front of it. too much music or in some cases where one is trying to absorb information is really distracting
great video man real professional looking cell, I am working on a new one myself going to post stuff on it when i get it all done ,keep up the great work man
However if you have the same trouble when the wife asks you to take out the trash, cut the grass & other similar things, then it might not be the music.... my wife says I'm a wee bit selective too.
I have an 79 Jeep with no O2 sensor and a six cyl curious as to what the O2 sensor mods do with hho. Any ideas? I have a spare O2 I might just heat it up and check it out
from what I read so far the O2 devices help "trick" the sensor into thinking it has the right amount of 02, but in fact lets you run a leaner mixture, due to HHO gas. If no 02 device, then the vehicle computer adjusts to the new mixture & actually dumps more gas into the system (IOW removes the benefits of the HHO).
If your vehicle doesnt have an 02 sensor, you could bypass it - however I am still learning this stuff, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
You will increase efficiency just a little bit doing this. However, this type of device is not nearly as sensitive to current leakage as a true series cell would be.
But let us know if you notice anything significant. As always, the mmw number will tell the tale.
Yea I will test and compare the two configs (unwrapped & wrapped) and see what I get.
I do like the series cell & the dry closed cell too. Not sure which one is next, but I think I will put this cell in my truck before I make another. After all the whole point is to increase gas mileage.
Like your style bro. Heat gun from harbor freight works for soda bottles but the warping is unmanageable if you're not prepared, Cheap way to go though. Practice runs are a must!
NICE whens the test?

A simple way to shrink the "shrink wrap" is to put it into boiling water.
If it is not tight enough, then you can use the torch.

I like video can you tell me what the part number is on mcmaster for the to different heat shrink sizes just do not want to buy the wrong ones
avatar071670 3 years ago
sure you can get it from mcmaster ((dot)) com
part # 7132K833 4" ID before, 2" ID after 6" length; comes in packs of 5 for $18.95
I hope this helps.

Thanks very much did you use the same one for the bottom strip and the two strips connecting the power. Have you connected to a car yet?

A heat gun works a lot better for the heat shrink than a torch. I switched from a torch to a heat gun and like it much better.

I agree - but I use it a lot so I dont know if it would be worth the expense.
I will check and see tho - thanks for the tip.

Good point, I do have some acrylic too - so many things to try. Good idea & thanks for posting.

you look like you have a real good design there.
but I realy cant hear much of what you are saying over the music. I have a lot of trouble hearing, though my wife thinks its selective.

AlmostHydrogen, that's how I understand it too (about the O2 sensor). We are all still learning, thanks for the replies! $4+ a gallon is ridiculous.

Maybe propane is just too hot, saw a hot air solder station yesterday with temperature dial.
(Hair dryer is probably not hot enough, haha)

yes, you gotta practice - I'm glad this heatshrink comes in a package of 5 so there was room for error.
