So I don't understand...why did his friendship with John Carpenter crumble? They seemed like very good friends when they did the commentary together (on the UK DVD) and that was in 2001 when they did it. And even Carpenter has called him a close friend...so I really don't understand Roddy's position, it's not like it was John Carpenter's fault. He just made a good movie.
@ramboraph4life Piper, unless there was something said in there that I didn't catch, was probably talking about when he went back to wrestling after going off to Hollywood. So there was probably a straining of relationships in the tension of that time. I'm sure they're fine with each other now.
You don't want to bring celebrities into the wrestling business and start utilizing them improperly, because its an insult to the boys in the dressing room who have to bust their ass. They have to know what the fuck they're doing, especially if you're getting them in the ring. Ok. You can't blame Roddy Piper for being overprotective of the wrestling business when it comes to a guy like Mr. T.
When it comes to bringing in celebrities to participate in bigtime wrestling events, you have to protect the business. I feel where Roddy Piper is coming from about Mr. T. Mr. T had an amateur wrestling background. The guy is a tough dude, but somebody like him is ill-equipped to be in a wrestling ring. You have to keep it basic for him and not complicate shit by trying to be flashy. You know, its ok for celebrities to come in and partake in wrestling as long as they are utilized properly.
If Rocky Johnson had been teaming with some other black dude other than Atlas, he probably would have gotten along better. In the back of his head he was probably thinking to himself, "Why did it have to be Atlas"? Lord knows Atlas isn't the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to intelligence. If you've ever listened to Atlas ever cut a promo or studied his background, you know he wasn't the smartest muthafucka to ever break into the wrestling business.
Rocky Johnson was a good worker in the ring. He busted his ass, but he wrestled during the 70s and back then there was too much racial tension for a guy like him to really get over. He had some success. He and Tony Atlas were the African-American Tag-Team Champions for the WWF, but from what I understand Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas didn't get along too well. They had together backstage. Can't really blame them. Johnson probably didn't like teaming with Atlas as much as other people did.
Piper was sexually abused by other wrestlers early in his career. Hell he was a fucking teenager in a business of degenerates who can't hold down a real job.
@GohModley dam u must be a simple minded ego tystical maniac an interviewer just ask questions and tries to make the guest comfortable enough to trust him and open up on things he normally wouldnt say! what the hell are you drinking to make you think this guy does not know how to ask questions in no way do i remember anything about the interviewer i only remember pipers comments which is what a great intervies is supposed to do man get off the 151 and do something other than give stupid opinions
@GohModley yep your a drunk shit for brains, your just a big walking lawsuit cause all you do is copyright my words back to me why dont you take some of that iq and put it to use when someone puts you in ur place you whino basterd slut!
@GohModley by ur tone in that message i realize you dont understand the term iq and because of that im sorry to bother you sir its hopeless trying to understand logic from an absolute doorknob have a great night!
It was a great interview. Except when the interviewer chucled a bit when piper was getting choked up telling the story of people thinking he had 2 weeks to live.
basically he is right, what worked in the 80's was old wrestlers as managers ie: bobby heenan. they need to have 80's guys to be on the shows, but not in the ring.
that was one of the best shoot interviews I've ever heard. Also the interviwer had his stuff togethor no long awkward pauses,or being too big of a fan to ask good questions.Very professional interview.Hats off to who ever did this.
