GREAT VIDEO ... i have a MTD question ... i have a 95 MTD 12.5 38 6 speed i recently replaced all my belts & was cutting my buddies yard & shut it off for a second & when i started it back up it would not engage the transmission.
starts right up ... deck works great but, will not move :(
i'm stumped ... i took the shift cover off & seen the belts tightening up, when put in drive & watched the 6 speed shifter rods move into gear.
how does the VARIABLE SPEED PULLEY turn? doesn't turn freely
Yeah , MTD's lately arent built too well - going cheep. Original MTD's were beefy tractors. Alot of times PO's just beat the crap out of em and never maintain em- the chassis's are great for modding tho. Most my MTDs have rotten decks from owner neglect , those are bieng made into mods.
You can pull the variable pulley apart, clean and grease them up - usually the center moving part freezes up- you can free that up with a hammer and grease the center up with PB blaster or wd40 - no biggie.
@1944johndeerel Oh yeah lol. Thats why i bought it. I disabled the seperate choke deal. And its just like it was from the factory. I hate separate chokes. There is no need for them. I think I could Ask $150 all day long.
@fordwillkillyou i like having a separate choke control. i dont like starting engines flat out especally in winter and thats how the single lever throttle/ choke controls are usually set up.
@1944johndeerel eh, But there really isnt any need for it. but i know what your saying. They start best on high and choke, and thats what the set up is supposed to be.
@KrankieV2 Yeah, Very nice engine, and I have one thats even nicer yet. My 02 powerbuilt. Its amazing. Paid 25 bucks for the murray RER and the engine. Both in pristine condition :)
@SpiritsoftheWolf Yeah, I hate MTD anything made by them is junk no offense. but they dont mow too bad. But I bought it for the engine of course haha :) Thanks for the comment man, Your the only one that did. Thanks man
@fordwillkillyou, look at my MTD tractor i got, it has a lot of hours on it's original engine till i replaced it, the only bad thing on my MTD is the plastic grille, i hate them, the metal grille is a lot better, they don't chip or crack, and MTD are not a bad tractor, if you mow with them like an 2500 dollars tractor, you can get a lot more out of them, and it's a 1990 MTD, i cannot bitch about them, i don't like them hydrostatic tranny on them MTD, them hydostatic transmissions are junks
