Its a pity that the government want to Marginalise the already marginalised. @KamatChai-am not an expert on majimbo but Coast province was ranked the most poor province, not sure of their economic versus political strength.Mombasa city council is ranked low despite having the PORT and all tourist facilities.Education in coast is still on it knee, with this few observation am not sure majimbo would be good for Coast even though a coast resident.
mujama i agree with you wholeheartedly..this oil will only benefit the people who have marginalised other communities, it will destroy our land and way of life..i pray they spend billions to prospect and get nothing out of it....
It is only right they involve the local communities, it is their right that they be involved and if any jobs are createdthey be first to benefit. If this doesnt happen I foresee a Niger delta scenerio in Nigeria where locals have never benefitted from the oil that comes from there and in it kidnapping of foreign oil workers and ransoms demands are the order of the day there.
I pray to God that they don't find that oil! May it be elusive or run out as quickly as they find it!!! We already have enough problems as is, and finding oil will only make it worse...
The oil will never benefit the local people...only the chinese and Exxon Mobil and the Shells of the world and a few government officials who receive kickbacks so these people know the game..Let the people continue grazing their cattle in peace
etreemd....you know the game...i pity the fool who thinks we will get anything out of it..we are just but pawns in a game that feeble minded folks like siasabora are yet to grasp!!!!
Well, ask the Nigerian government about the Niger Delta and the woes that have come from that region. Without local buy-in, all the government is doing is creating an unstable situation in a region within easy reach of Al-Shabab and Al Qaeda.....
siasa, you cant say that. local communities need to benefit from the oil. If oil is found, I am hoping that it would help regenerate the whole of NE province who have been marginalised for years. This is their time to strike lucky and I hope they do find oil. otherwise, we will see bloody militias like the ones we have along niger delta in nigeria, where locals dont benefit from the black gold.
The Delta militia are terrible...yeah I agree with Surambaya above too we need to navigate it carefully....but No to blackmail! These guys get CDF money and other gov't services generated from other sectors of the economy. No exclusivity like the coastal bragging over keeping all the port taxes!
Yes all is bragging because of Political & Economical marginalisation from the Central Government ? You can cheat some people sometime but you cannot cheat all the pepore all d time.. Coast wants Majimbo and you will see COAST LEADS AND OTHER FOLLOWS ...
