A comment from a poor white trash dude, fallen. My God! This is so extraordinarily beautiful, and you lift the heavy, ugly curtain, between this f... World, and... The Rest! What is brought, here, is Beauty, sweet, and complete. There is no word!
It's Rachmaninoff's birthday today, so I thought I would stop by and watch one of my favorite Rachmaninoff piano performances on YouTube. In my mind, the Prelude in D is one of the most romantic piano pieces ever written, and I just adore the tenderness of your interpretation following the climax. The way you take your time and shape the phrases is breathtaking... I wish you all the best with your current musical endeavors!
@Rickmaninov Thank you so much for reminding me of Rachmaninoff's birthday! Actually I happened to have just finished running through the first movement of the Rach concerto no.2 (with a second pianist) when I read this comment.
maybe its just me but i believe that 1:11 is marked pianissimo in the score, the top part is supposed to be almost in audible with the inner tune coming out more, i perosnally prefer it that way to the mf that you played it but apart from that, truly excellent performance
I've been looking for versions with this elevated sense of emotional intensity. I think too many pianists played this piece the same old way too many times. But you, by reviving a bit of the heat-of-the-moment vividness while retaining the ambience of a fleeting moment, placed the listener INTO the romantic realm of the transitory and mingled feelings.
This Prelude shows Rachmaninov at the height of his powers. You play a poignant, haunting, and yet very impassioned performance. I doff my hat to you, m'lady!
You play this prelude absolutely gorgeous! I heard a girl play this piece once and I didn't care for it, but the way you play it has made me fall in love with it. You're amazing.
Wow... So, so beautifully done. I am just beginning to learn this piece right now. I was a music major in college but I went for voice because my piano teacher at the time had told me when I was younger that I could never be a performance major. Unfortunately I believed her ....I bet I could have been one. The depth of expression in your playing and the way that you move while you play reminds me so much of my own playing. Your playing is a wonderful inspiration to me. Thank you!
i see hear ties from the chopin preludes and nocturnes
very wonderful interpretation, wonderful choice of encore. i think it would be wonderful if you put up a recording of rach. 32, nos 5, 12, and 13. They would surely be fantastic
I would just like to thank you for posting such a truly beautiful performance. It brought back a lot of old memories of my old professor who used to play this for me and few others. Thank you
Makes me think about... everything that is important in life... Your deepness and emotion touches my heart in many ways, makes my skin a to 'chill' a bit, and warms the tears that surrounds my eyes...
Amazing performance, congratulations. you´ve made my day... really :-) !!
Thank you for your postings. Were these pieces played in the context of a full-length recital? If so, would you mind sharing what were the other pieces on the program? Thank you.
Yes these pieces were played in the context of a full-length recital.
The other pieces were 4 Bach Prelude and Fugues, Beethoven Sonata op.110, Chopin Ballade no.4, Ravel Jeux d'eau, and Prokofiev Sonata no.3 (this was the encore..)
Really, really nice. So far the best recording of this Prelude I found in Youtube. I have one in mp3 which is just perfect, smooth, beautiful, and yours got right there.
splendidly done. i've always been a fan of rachmaninov's works being an emotional person myself. i especially enjoy your phrasing in this work....your use of crescendos and dimenuendos lend excellent credit to the emotion and depth of this prelude. i also like your technique...it seems like your hands glide over the notes like a flowing stream. oh yea...love your video on the 3rd. commanding performance. :-o)
This is beautiul...out of all of the recordings that I've found on youtube, I like this one the most. I'm learning it for my senior recital this year, and your video will definitly be my inspiration when I get frustrated.
I think you may have some of Rocky's spirit mingled in with your own!!! Very nice indeed!!! <3 'd it! :D
Re: you left a comment in Korean for "yoon a in" and I translated it with google. I take it, you liked her playing? When she's as old as you, a duet like the fabled one with Rachmaninoff and Horowitz would be Cool! Still amazed she's only 11yrs old though...!?!
Hello Lisa, The best performance of this piece I ever heard in my life. You were terrific!

Haha, is it wrong to have known a girl for 4 minutes and 49 seconds, and already have a giant crush on her?
That was a joke, but in all seriousness... this is an OUTSTANDING performance, and a wonderful piece for an encore. Bravo!
