  • ok i am 19 and i am moving to fort worth tx and i want to buy a kimber 1911 and carry it, would it be possible for me to get a carry permit? ive herd people ssay i can get one but ive read that i have to be 21, please help, thanks

  • @sean98gsx As of right now, state law says you have to be 21 to get a CHL. However, I believe you are still allowed to have a gun concealed in your vehicle since texas expanded the official definition of "traveling" in the last few years. Texas has always allowed you to have a weapon on you while traveling, but the definition of traveling has been arbitrary from county to county and even city to city. Now it's anytime you're behind the wheel. It MUST be concealed though.

  • @sean98gsx There are some Law enforcement officers that will try to blow smoke about it has to be out of your reach and/or unloaded. The recent supreme court decision basically blew that out of the water. It is possible you will run into some knucklehead cop that will arrest you, but you will likely beat the charge in court. Keep in mind that I am not a lawyer. Keep in mind that I am not a lawyer and what I tell you should not be construed as legal advice.

  • @sean98gsx I am a current CHL in the Ft. Worth area so i have this advice for you. If you are 19, you are only allowed to have a long gun in your vehicle while travelling. And in most cases you have to be travelling to/from a gunshow, range or hunting trip. So that mostly takes that out of the defense equation. Also, In Tx you must be 21 to purchase and carry/travel/conceal a handgun. I would highly suggest consciously keeping yourself out of any unfriendly situations until your 21st. It will..

  • Great info. Springfield xd made in usa or croatia?

checkout my videos on concealed carry...let me know what you think- Shane George

  • Hey man i really like your article very nicely thought out, I am interested in carrying and you deff gave me a few things to tink about before I pick my holster as we as a few other things! Thank you for this.

  • @nike12000haha cool man, glad you dig it :)

  • hey man i really like your article very nicely thought out, I am interested in carrying and you deff gave me a few things to tink about before I pick my holster as we as a few other things! Thank you for this.

  • i just got my ccw or chl i live in ohio and there are no open carry laws so i really dont worry about printing i put it on my side and im done good vids im glad somebody tries to explain the basic laws of conceal carry

  • I like most of your video's. Carry on young man..

  • It doesn't matter what size caliber you carry. It is the shot placement. A .17 cal will kill just a well as a .45 cal. Stop this craziness about bullet size. Practice, practice, practice. That is what counts simpletons.

  • there is some truth to your logic but you're over-simplifying. You can kill someone with an icepick or even a toothpick given enough skill and opportunity, no doubt about that. But other tools are more forgiving to those with less skill. Generally speaking, the bigger the bullet the more damage the round does the more leeway you have in your shot placement. I want plenty of leeway in life and death confrontations hence my recommendation to carry the largest round you can comfortably shoot.

  • We may disagree or eventually agree to disagree, but i certainly appreciate the passion in your stance :) at least you've put some thought into it which is more than 95% of most people.

  • A .17 cal has nowhere near the stopping power of a .45. Unless your an expert marksman and make 100% headshots under stress, a very small caliber wont be effective on lots of people. I've personally witnessed a large (6' 2'' 225 lb) man take a .25 in the chest 10ft range and and then walked around complaining about it until paramedics arrived. Tiny rounds lack mass and therefore enough kinetic energy to stop big targets, unless its very high velocity - which pistols are not.

  • @GunSmoke359 I agree with you however I tend to think that it will look better in court that you only shot an attacker twice to stop them than with 6 well placed .17 cal.

  • Are u an EXPERT in the field of firearms? If so, what are ur qualifications? No offence, but why should we listen to your advice?

    All the Best

  • no offense taken. I have a bit of experience doing the concealed carry thing, but I'm not a navy sniper or anything, no. Most of my information comes from my own research and my own hands on experience. If you find it useful, then by all means listen. If not I hope you find what you're looking for.

  • @merddyn2002 So u are expressing an OPINION then. Better u let ur viewers know that.

  • @bootmanor I assume folks folks take that as a given. There are very few hard cold scientific facts in this arena. Even a so-called gun guru can only give their opinion. Even my CHL instructor who was a retired 20 year vet from HPD with military combat experience gave out plenty of information that was not only contrary to info from other experts but was down-right not in-line with the law. If it's not confirmed in a lab it's opinion. Even if it is confirmed in a lab it may still be opinion. :)

  • I'm sure you weren't a Navy sniper.

  • i really love xdm 40. awsome gun

  • great video, i just wanted to add that a xd 45 with the 4" barrel does come with a thumb safety, and the 96 is like the 92 in 40.

  • This is a very informative video and you are 100 % right I have a glock and I wish it had an external thumb safety-The 3 internal trigger locks are not enough.

  • great vid bro when u said your local range would let u test guns that's awesome i live in eastern ky and we don't even have a gun range it really sucks it's can be hard to find a place to shoot i got to fell the guns i bought but never had shoot them before i purchased a taurus pro 9mm and a glock 22 40 cal im happy with my choice but getting to shoot them first would have been nice

  • Good Vid, other considerations could be operation (I.e. striker, hammer) Some people would like the option of SA/DA. I personally prefer the DAO. just as a safety. Although I do not feel that a thumb safety is necessary. Proper holster and training cure those problems.

  • ccw for me isnt difficult or expensive and i carry the big shit,my main carry are taurus 4in. 38 or ordnance 1911 sometimes my ruger p95 w/hornady 147gr this is no bullshit and i dnt use a holster my 1911 goes in my pocket or waist and 38 is kept in my waist with speed loaders in my pocket i know this doesnt sound normal or safe to some people wondering wnt it fall,is it heavy, and no its not this is how im comfartable i hate subsfor my hand and its convienent for me this way.

  • TacBonded40SW

You do sound like a little bitch.

Go make me a sandwich woman.

  • XDm Actually comes in 9mm and .40S&W

  • I work in a Gun Store and our Springfield Rep said XD-M in .45 ACP is in the works and should be available in spring of 2009. No word on a thumb safety version yet though.

  • i dont think having the biggest bullet is most important. if you have a .50 and cant hit a beach ball from 5 yardsand i have a .380 and put it inbetween your eyes you tell me who's in trouble

  • yep, i agree. that's exactly why i advise folks to shoot the largest caliber they're comfortable with. Comfort = Accuracy.

  • I have a Beretta Px4 Storm in 9mm. I've shot tons of different ammo, both FMJs and HPs with no jams in about3,000 to 4,000 rounds. My channel has two videos of me shooting it.

That being said, I carry a Bersa Thunder .380 CC daily. The Px4 is just to darn big to carry in my opinion.

  • these guys are inexperienced and dont know anything about taurus.

    taurus is good guns.

im a taurus lover all the way not cause theyre cheap i own sigs glocks and im a 10/22 tac nut! and we all know how expensive that get,

i like taurus because i have good expiration with them and i know alot of respected ppl that will back that, hi points can get you killed taurus not so much be fair guys, dont talk about what you dont know.

    TAURUS RULES!

  • Taurus has an 8 shot .357 out now, one shot in his direction would turn the average thug into a track star!

  • Ever considered a revolver vs. auto debate? I would love to see what you think. Thanks.

  • Interesting comments here, thanks.

    IR

  • You should be held criminally responsible for reccomending low quality, malfunction prone firearms to people.

Your advice is going to get good people killed.

And, since you can't STAND to be wrong, you're going to delete this and disable comments.

But know this, uniformed people will take you horrid advice as good advice and buy a 24/7.

And, god forbid they ever need to use it and it malfunctions and gets them killed.

I implore every responsible gun owner to flag this video.

  • nahhh, as long as you're being respectful when you comment I respect your opinion. It's when folks deviate from the information at hand and start in on personal attacks or sillyness like that when i'll start censoring/banning. Your'e entitled to your opinion and all I can say is my personal experience does not match yours (if you actually have any with Taurus). Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's how you state it that makes all the difference.

  • you are ridicules!! hush up its called freedom of speech and he a smart guy giving his opinion of what he prefers and you are just a negative whine bag go cry and moan on someone elses page.

  • Whoa, mother fucker, listen up.

Maybe you should go back to night school and learn how to spell.

Maybe you should spend a little less money on hanging shit from your face, and a little more money on handguns that actually work.

    Unlike Taurus.

  • tac bonded...you sound like a naggy bitchy woman.

    hush...

  • What the fuck ever dude.

You own a bunch of shitty guns and are defending bottom of the barrel Brazilian potmetal, unreliable pieces of shit.

That, and you actually own a Hi Point.

Dude, your taste in guns sucks, and you don't know shit about them.

So stop trying to give advice.

  • i should know about guns i work at a gunstore.

and at least i can remain civil, and act mature about difference of opinion.

    by the way

    please stop crying.....

  • Incorrect.

Saying Taurus makes shitty guns is not opinion, it is fact.

If Taurus is so great how comes GLOCK dominates the law enforcement market?

Taurus is just some shitty poser gun that people who are too stupid/cheap to buy a well engineered gun buys.

And, no, you don't know one god damn thing about guns.

I mean, shit, you can't even shoot right.

In your GLOCK 19 video it is clear that you are afraid of the gun by the way you are leaning back.

    You're an amateur, dude.

  • Also, it's obvious you're a fucking moron by the fact that you tried to turn a 10/22 into an AR15.

How about this, when I need an opinion on shoving metal shit through my face, having man tits, or poorly constructing sentences and horribly mispelling words, I'll ask you, because you clearly have a lot of experience in that field.

But, trust me, to keep yourself from looking even more like a fool than you already are, stay away from giving firearm advice.

  • oh look more cry from the guy who doesn't even own a handgun.

    haha

cry cry cry your mad at the world and unhappy with your self so you have to lash out at ppl that are different than you. and you think all of your shitty whine bag opinions ARE FACT lol

    grow up little small guy.

    convo OVER little man BLOCKED

  • LOL, I like how you blocked me because you got your shit handed to you.

    I don't own a handgun?

    Wow, that's news to me.

I have a Springfield XD40 4", a Ruger Security Six .357 Magnum, an older (no light rail) GLOCK 19, and a Calico M950.

And, BTW, none of them have the faggy little 10 round limited San Francisco magazines.

When you get a real gun and aren't afraid of the recoil of a 9mm, then you can talk.

Learn your shit before you talk about it.

  • i didnt get my shit handed to me lol

    your 19 and you cry

ps i like how you made a new account to reply to me lets me know im really getting to you

    horay

  • You're entitled to your opinion, but professionals who actually use their weapons in the line of duty (in first world countries) stick to other brands of weapons.

    Taurus?!

    Really?!

  • I got the Hi-Point 9mm handgun, It works fine, I have put 300 rounds in it so far. And it worked everytime. I paid only $150 plus tax.

  • Sure the GLOCK doesn't have some silly thumb safety, but the GLOCK is safer.

    Why?

Because GLOCK has a little something called quality control and actually goes bang when you press the trigger.

It is not some horrid Brazilian made piece of trash that is too out of spec to fire common WWB ammo.

    You need to get real.

If my father found out I gave my mother a Taurus to defend her life with, he'd believe that I don't hold her life in very high regard.

    Taurus is pure unadulterated garbage.

  • Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion but I believe you've already demonstrated above that you don't do your homework.

  • Really? Because I agree with him entirely. A Taurus over a Glock? hahahahaha I would never trust my life with a Taurus. They are shit.

  • You should actually research something before you talk about it.

The Springfield XD is NOT made in America, it is made in Croatia.

The .45 LC is NOT significantly more powerful than the .45 Auto.

The .45 Auto is NOT significantly more powerful than the 9x19 and is NOT AT ALL more powerful than the .40 S&W.

Worst of all, you are touting Taurus over GLOCK.

  • ok, man. You got me on the XD. I assumed because Springfield is generally an american company that the XD is american. I believe I've corrected that statement in a later video. The Box O Truth folks have done tests demonstrating the LC is much more effective than the 45 auto and just about any stopping power documentation that compares 9mm and 45 states that you need more rounds to stop the target with a 9mm. Sounds like you need to do the homework.

  • Well, I would assume you need more rounds if your hits are poor.

If you shoot a badguy in the face, I don't think he's going to complain that you're bullet was only 9 MMs in diameter instead of 10 MMs or 11 MMs.

The 9x19 gives me more chances to make good hits with less recoil than other calibers.

And when you put high quality. modern, JHP ammunition in a 9x19.

There line between 9x19, .40, and .45 disappears.

And, honestly, stopping power is a myth.

  • Sounds like TacBonded40SW does more homework than merddyn2002. That's honestly the most intelligent post I've ever read on YouTube.

Shot placement is infinitely more important than caliber, ESPECIALLY when you are using a high quality JHP. Good 9x19 JHPs are JUST as effective as .40 and .45 in terms of expansion.

  • Obama is going to pass a federal NO CCW law..... you just wait.

  • .45 acp is my everday carry w/federal premium hydroshocks.

  • What kind of ammo do you use for defense?

  • I personally carry Blazer jacketed ball ammo. Lately i've taken the stance that it's probably best to carry what you shoot and shooting the premium stuff is just too expensive.

First, The Springfield XD only has the thumb safety on the .45, not the 9mm. Second, Springfield XDs are made in Croatia, not America. Springfield does make their rifles and 1911's in the USA, but the XD is made in Croatia, and the holsters, mag loaders, and mag holders are all made in Isreal.

  • ahhh, good info to have. Perhaps the later model 45's have a thumb safety but all the models i've seen don't. The only model i've seen that does is the xdm which is only made in 9mm and recently expanded to .40. That's per my local gun shop guy. Didn't know their pistols were made abroad though. Do you have a source that i can verify that with?

  • Currently, Sprinfield only offers a thumb safety on the XD 45 Tactical (5" barrel). It's part number is XD966HCSP06, and your local retailer should be able to look that up and provide pricing and availability. The XD(M) was actually origionaly in .40 and it was just recently released as a 9mm. The XD's are manufactured in Karlovac, Croatia by HS Produkt, and in Croatia it is called an HS2000. I own three XDs and I stand by them, but I do like my 24/7 in .40cal also.

  • thanks man, i'll update the video with that info. :)

  • not a problem, we need more people like you posting these vids to increase public awareness. I live in Illinois, the land where conservative thinking goes to die, we and Wisconsin are the only two states with no CC laws, and we pay for it everyday in dozens of needless murders, rapes and robberies. The greedy liberal politicians led by Mayor Daley and Govenor Blagovich do not care about our freedom or safety.

  • I did have another question. How do you feel about the "one is none, two is one" idea? I know several people that carry a starndard 9mm, .40 or .45 but also carry an alternate weapon, like a .32 or a .25 pocket pistol, or sometimes a snubbie .38sp in a pocket or ankle rig.

  • smith and wesson do not transfer warranties, but I bought a used sw40v and ended up breaking some parts in it, sent it out to get serviced, and S&W fixed it for free.

  • great video...as are all your others. Personally i love glock owned a 17, now have a 22c) but i was researching the taurus 24/7 pro .45. Must say your videos on the matter have sold me and i will purchase one sometime this month. Also trade in the Bersa .380 for a 9mm for my wife. I was thinking s&w sigma, but perhaps i'll follow your lead and purchase a 24/7 pro in 9mm as well. Anyway, very informative vid pointing out some interesting factors in concealed carry options. Big thanks!

  • Do NOT purchase a sigma. Not only is it a blatant Glock ripoff, but it is the ONLY pistol I ever fired that stovepiped TWICE within 50 rounds using Blazer ammo. You will likely need to stick with +P ammo for the sigma.

Mainly you should take your wife to a range and try out different guns to see what SHE would like and perform with best.

  • thanx for the info. And yea, i guess considering its for her protection it should be a pistol that fits her. We live in a kinda rough area and i work graveyard shift, so consistency, comfort, controlability really should be conidered. wasnt thinking. Again thanks, you save me some cash and a lot of bitching. LMAO

  • You are welcome for the advice from a guy who went through the same thing. I LIKED the Baretta Cougar so I figured my wife should too. WRONG answer! lol.

I feel I should add a couple more things, though. DON'T let her 'wuss' out and get some 'lady' gun in .22 cal. Those give a false sense of security. She needs to stick with the largest cal she can be effective with. Also do NOT let her go for purse carry unless unavoidable. Purses are the first target for most thieves and they cause fumbling.

  • I have to second not buying a Sigma. Not because it's a blatant Glock ripoff but because it's a piece of crap. I'm an instructor at a range and I see LOTS of guns and the Sigma has consistently been a problem.

  • Thanx for the info. That will keep me from wasting time and money. What are you thoughts on the 24/7 pro. I'm pretty much sold, but given your expertese on the matter, I'd appreciate the advice.

  • Tarus makes a decent gun for the money and I have fired one a few times. I like it fine, but I have heard some complaints about service. Look around some forums about how satisfied other 24/7 owners are. IMHO Springfield makes a superior gun. The XD that merddyn talks about here is excellent.

  • That is why I carry a Smith & Wesson SW-99 in .40 cal. It shoots single AND double action, which means you can carry one in the chamber and don't have to run around with it cocked. It has numerous safety features includeing ambidextrious mag release and de-cocking lever. It handles very well with just about any ammo I put through it. I do recommend changing the plastic guide rod out for a steel one, but it shoots great right out of the box.

  • The taurus 24/7 line has a similar feature. It essentially reverts to DA when it's not cocked. I believe they call it "second strike"

  • Hey, James.

Excellent video. Lots of good points to think on for people ready to get a CHL. I personally love to shoot Glock, but it is NOT a good CHL weapon. Glock is for home defense or sitting in the glove box.

As you said, one-handed draw and shoot is really the only practical way to carry concealed. For that, you MUST have one in the pipe ready to go. Revolvers just don't have the round capacity, although they are VERY reliable.

  • ya, i agree, glock has a place. maybe good to keep locked in the glove box or on the night stand, something where you're not going to touch it until you need it. Certainly not in condition 0.

  • Five Stars!!

  • really? figured you'd nail me for my dissing of glock. :)

  • Its all good man I know and understand your concerns with the safety. I love the Glock but thats me This is a five star video anyway you look at it

  • BTW that Glock is the only hand gun that I have ever had that has NEVER Jammed and I have owned most of the big boys...

  • ya, i will say glocks are reliable for sure. It's having them go off when i dont intend for them to that scares me! lol, hey if you have a facebook page hit me up with a private message and I'll add you. I just spent like 2 hours updating mine.

  • I dont want to jinx myself but I have never had a Glock go off unintentionally. YouTube is all I have time for these days but someday I will do the Face Book and My Space thing

  • I have never had my Glock go off either, however, I can SURELY see how it could. Some people are trained to draw with finger ON the trigger, while others are not.

  • Very good, simple, common-sense advice.

  • what do u think about the new tauros 845 thats coming out this april

  • I Carry a .357 Magnum 6 inch barrel 7 shot hand cannon =P

  • good god. that'll drop a charging rhino. lol

  • I Like To carry something with a lot of bang =P. I Conseal it pretty well to,I Could Walk right by a cop and they wouldn't know,In fact a cop asked to see my ID once because I was walking down the street or something and they didn't notice my Cannon =P

  • I ordered up a Taurus PT92 recently and basically chose that over the Glock 17 because I just can't get over the lack of a manual safety. The manual safety issue kept it off my short list. As I become a more experienced shooter I'll be looking to add a Glock to my arensal for sure.

FYI: I wasn't looking for a concealable carry sidearm.

I too like exposed hammers -- yet another 1up the PT92 has on the G17 in my book.

  • yep, 100% agree :)

  • I'm with you on the "more is better" philosophy with capacity but I'm just curious as to how you arrived at that 12 round capacity minimum.

At the same time, I'm not going to walk around with a Glock 26 with a 30rd mag sticking out and poking everyone who gets too close to me.

  • assuming you go with the larger ammo i recommend and you're going with a double-stack magazine which is fairly standard these days you should be able to get a minimum of 12 rounds easily. 10 rounds isn't bad but 12 is better. with the smaller rounds you should easily be able to meet the 12 round minimum.

  • i also assume as my worst case scenario that there will be 3 attackers. Why that number? because it seems a logical balance between worst case possibility and what is reasonable. While the 45 has a 90%+ stopping power the 9mm has closer to 80%. Assuming 9mm you need 2 rounds per target to effectively drop them. then give yourself and extra round per target to account for misses and superficial hits. Thus 3x3=9 rounds to end the threat. Then I want a few rounds left for insurance.

  • so for a 9mm minimum capacity in my book is 10-12 rounds. for a 45 you're probably ok with 8-10, but if you can carry more than that then by all means do so. Better to have em and not need em than need and not have. etc.

  • as for where i'm getting my numbers on stopping power just google for "*Suggested Calibers & Loads* By: Goshin" and it should be the first hit to come up. The 3 being my worst case scenario is simply a number i settled on based on a reasonable scenario of 2 aggressors and 1 "lookout".
