That's one fast 16...., and the crew is quite tuned in, good on ya' gents. I have a Super 19 but would have to have an extra man at least 200+ lbs. to even consider going up against you. 'Course when there are 6-8ft. waves, it'd be a different story, you "almost" can't pitch-pole, not bragging mind you...., so far ya'll are the best crew witnessed in cyber-land.
Its the tiller extension. When sailing downwind, if the wind is heavy it tends to be easier to just throw the extension behind the boat and steer with the cross bar.
Kudos to the team, At that age, my brother and I were working to stay upright on our H16 (circa 1983). Things and the young men have come a long way, nice boat and vid.
IT is funny the comments people make....the comment before yours thought the helm went flying....it was the crew and he had a foot strap. It is not generally tricky at all but it was really gusty and this was 2 kids that we coach...14 and 16 at the time....with about a year or so of hard sailing. It was blowing hard enough that they were one of the few boats that went out.
Nice. You could really see when the boat was in the groove and when things were a little off. Practicing in those conditions will improve your sailing quickly.
Chicken wires should be a solution. Saved me a couple time from falling over like this.

not a full pitch-pole, more of a sudden stop, then capsize. for a real pitch-pole, watch my video of me pitch-poling my Cherub skiff!

A big time "trip", I agree, but not a real pitchover.
Not trying to take away from the great teenage training program going on here.
Just trying to clarify the difference, as I was taught what a pole pitchover really is.
Keep it up! Way to fly!!

nice boat. going down wind like that is a little tricky with cats. or a broad reach or run? forget the technical term.

If the helm had foot straps you guys wouldn't have gone over, it was only him swinging around the front that filped it.
