The notion that US backed the Egypt revolution is illogical. It does not serve US interest at all for disposing Mubarak. NGOs which are active in EU might be the ones that supported the revolution, much like the color revolutions. US and EU interest may not always align. Getting rid of a pro US Mubarak allows EU elements to integrate and exert stronger strategic influence in a new Egyptian government. Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen are countries that lie along a sea lane that connects EU to far east.

Not just a US client, but a Western client. All states play a balancing between promoting their domestic values (i.e. democracy, personal freedoms, etc) and their strategic security concerns (i.e. making sure important trade routes stay open or that an important country stay stable). Sometimes strategic necessity wins out over humanitarian ideals. Egypt is a perfect case where the West was willing to overlook an unsavoury regime in exchange for stability.
