Isn't it possible to contaminate your whole batch of potting mix by setting the plant in the batch? It seems like your sterilization methods are futile if you just stick the plant in mix that is going to be used for other plants. I always just pour some fresh mix into the pot so I know how much I need and then pour it out onto a newspaper where I am working so the rest of my mix doesn't get contaminated.
