@Madorem Fact is people choose to be fighters and with the rules they Referee by injuries sustained are no worse than what could happen on a football/baseball field... tendon/ligament tears, breaks, cuts (obviously MUCH less likely), concussions, exhaustion.

It's barbarism by another name in some sports with the level top echelon athletes are reaching now, the power is immense.

Factor in that hardened fighters are another breed of human, as long as the respect for sport is there, all good IMO

What does the outcome of a fight say? that the winner, had they been on the streets or something, would have killed the loser, it answers the question, who would beat who in fight to the death? @Madorem Your reiteration may be more clearly written but I find it no more substantial. UFC is not a "fight to the death" nor could any UFC fighter claim that his win "reflects" that thought. UFC is a rule bound sport competition which is limited to throws, grappling, striking and submission ending in "tap out", KO or referee stoppage. Look at the lengthy list of rules to comprehend how rule bound it is. And statistics show it as having low counts of injuries relative to other sports.

@Madorem Secondly, this form of Martial Art style competition has been around for a very long time. It has merely arisen in the west as a product of Japanese influence in Brazil(watch the BJJ vs Judo matches from the 50's/60's). There are venues for all forms of athletes to test their abilities, and now UFC has given a venue to wrestlers/martial artist etc. The study of fighting in both practical and sport dates back as far as ancient Egypt and even earlier. Such a sport MAY be in our nature.
