@WarriorWuTang they didnt. they just layered a drum track on top. sometimes they take out a bit of low end bass on the sample sound so the bass heavy beat cuts through better.

You'd be surprised at HOW MUCH these rap artists and r&b artists sample from music from the 60's and 70's and many of the younger generation would never know because they weren't around in the earlier periods to hear the original music

Actually, I'm sorry... wrong info... I have the Hank Crawford album... it contains an uptempo jazzy version of "Baby this love I have"... super funky, but the original that Tribe sampled is Minnie Riperton (same title, 1975).
