I finished the manga, then finished the movies...I died a little inside, since now what am I supposed to do with my life when I finished something so epic!!!!
Im reading the manga im at the 8 volume and well im loving it.The characters are the best ones i have seen in a manga, the storytelling its creative and its all wrapped up and it makes you think. every time i come here to hear this song, the top comment increases by one like or two. Soon ill come back to like that comment, to unite with the ones that have completed this, to unite
the people that know what this song means for the history,to unite with the ones that want to take back our symbol.
Saying that this song is great enough to save the world is like Cowboy Bebop calling itself the work that created a new genre: it's not a boast when it's true.
@DmcDampe Its good to know that, but what i mean is that not many people know it, is not as popular as Naruto or Fairy Tail, being this manga a LOT better
Pluto is the proof of this man's greatness - watch the two episode adaptation of the same Astro Boy story arc (it's on youtube!) from the cartoon, then compare with what he did with Pluto. He turned the most mundane of shounen story arcs into a noir thriller masterpiece.
Monster and 20th Century Boys only confirm this further, of course.

@HikaruMangaProject Bob Lennon is not a person, it is the title of the song. It is named this way because it is supposedly a rip off of Bob Dylan and John Lennon.
One of the most underrated talents I've ever seen.
The fact that Viz (apparently) will never finish getting Monster on DVD is just another unfortunate chapter in Urasawa's history of not getting the recognition he MORE than deserves.
How this man and his works can go so largely unnoticed for this long....
How can ANYONE look at Monster, and not see the nearly unparalleled masterpiece that Urasawa has created? Even dubbed, most people never heard of it.
Well it's not taht of a surprise. Monster and 20CB are both seinen (18-34 years old) manga and Naruto, Bleach... are shounen (13-18 years old). So with that in mind, world wide comics aand cartoons are considered childish and most kids when they hit highschool watch them less or don't watch them at all. And most anime aimed for non Japan audiences are shounen. But in Japan older people read manga too, hence seinen genre. I bet in Japan Urasawa is legend like Tezuka.
@TerranigmArk Same here. I remember all the great moments that happened in this series and the song adds only more strength to the powerful messages the story tells us.
@DrawineeProductions I personally enjoyed Monster more, but in terms of scale it doesn't even compare to 20th Century Boys. Monster is a much smaller and more compact story.
I finished this manga yesterday, I think is the best Seinen I have ever read (Death Note, Paranoia Agent and Gantz are pretty good too), and listen to this song in the last pages of 21st Century Boys it's a feeling that I can't express with words, but it's awesome.
So thank you Naoki Urasawa for this week of enjoyment and (for me) the feeling of thinking what really matters: the possibility of change ourselves and caring our people.
@TheNamekianClown Sry, that was a shared account, I erased it, as I said: You're right about Death Note, but I still consider it like Seinen (dont know why), and yes, I'm thinking seriously about read Pluto (I've watched like 10 episodes of Monster but I left it).
Well now, I'm impressed! The man that wrote my favorite manga (Monster) is also a musician. That's so cool! I'll also get around to reading 20th Century Boys someday, but for now, I want to finish Monster.
I just finished it....my god this is my most favorite manga ever now. Though the ending was kinda disappointing. There were alot of unexplained things too, such as why Kenji didn't die and got up like it was nothing when he got shot that one time, how Kamisama got his ability of foresight, or how Kanna and Fukube were able to bend spoons and communicate with others telepathically. But whatever, it was an appropriate way to end the series.
@HeatLegs As I understand it, Kenji was shot but not fatally, and was standing out of willpower.
I don't think Fukube ever actually had powers. I think he was faking them the whole time.
As to Kamisama, no explanation is provided. and Kana, she was injected with lots of stuff while in the womb so she mutated somehow, I think that was the explanation. She and Kamisama were the only ones to actually have powers.
I wish I could find Urasawa, and personally thank him for this story. What this story showed me, is that anything can happen, good times go as fast as they come back, and anyone can do something incredible.
Also, I always wondered what the point of the "gu ta la la" bits and pieces were for. Now I think that they are meant to destroy the language barrier, even though I can't speak Japanese, I can sing those parts, and I can sort of feel that connection.
i think the japanese did a great job on the movie.. hard to believe hollywood would do any better... just look wad they did to the harry potter series... ugh.
Hollywood turned the Harry Potter movieseries into an unrecognizable, irreversable mess. the books are WAY better. the first two films were amazing and truly captured the feeling and atmosphere of the books, third one was okay, but after that it all went to crap. the newer films are badly butchered, abridged versions of the books. anyone who watched the fifth film and didn't read the book it was based on were completely lost as to what was going on. it took out IMPORTANT plot points

If they do remake this for the US we might end up with: Jack Black as Kenji Vince Vaughn as Mon-chan Luke Wilson as Otcho Steve Carell as Yoshitsune Amy Adams as Yukiji Kyle Glass as Maruo Will Ferrel as Sadakiyo Ben Stiller as Fukubei Elisha Cuthbert as Kanna Anna Faris as Kyoko Wayne Brady as Haru Namio it'd be worth it to actually have the original 20th Century Boy song in an OP (and end credits).
really, 20th century boys manga is a masterpiece. the story is very well written, the plot is amazing, the flow of scenarios is flawless. i mean, it is top class.
@InakoOwns there are a couple of obvious differences like during bloodyy new years eve the movie has thing whole like fighting scene trying to take down the robot, and the manga does not and i hear its an alternate ending
@InakoOwns You're not the only one. I started reading around 7 pm last night, and didn't stop till 6 am in the morning. I didn't know there was an extra 2 volumes with a different title, so I slept so badly because I thought that was the end. >_<
The story of 20th Century Boys is a hundred times better than those seen in Hollywood movies. I remember spending hours and hours just reading the manga with no stop.
Really unexpected IMO. I thought it would be passable at best and then i heards this...and i was like "the hell? since when did manga artists have so many talents?"
The popular mangas f today are runing mangas rep, (Ie. Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, etc...) Many people think anime is stupid and childish because of those mangas that only god knows why are popular. Urasawa is amazing...
I didn't expect the song to actually be good ^- ^
But coming from a manga like 20th Century Boys... how could it not be good?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
They're popular because they're GOOD. You're just a faggot and hate those mangas/animes because everybody else likes them probably. If you've actually read those mangas and thing they're ruining "manga rep" then you're obviously retarded.
you know, ive been reading Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, etc...for a while, but after watching and reading 20 century boys...i don't know....they don't have much of their flair anymore.......im not saying that they're bad....just not as great as i thought. and another thing, they are changing the manga's rep. i don't know if for better or worse, but old mangas are a lot more different....centered more around the story that the action, you know?
the thing is, Urasawa Naoki is a good friend with legendary manga artist Tezuka Osamu. I think he was a student of Tezuka's too. His type of manga was probably heavily influenced by Tezuka. Tezuka, having written "Atom", as well as a crapload of other great series in the eighties-nineties-ish time, probably gave Urasawa a very retro touch to his manga style. It's obvious when you compare 20th with Bleach. There aren't any ten-chapter-fight scenes.
It's also another type of Manga... It's not the same a shônen than a seinen manga, their own objectives and public are totally different. Also, a mistery manga focusses itself about its history while a battle manga aims to great fight scenes. Though Tite Kubo particularly wastes a lot of space in his chapters, but that's not my point xD.
The case is, Urasawa is awesome along with his style, but so are other series of other kinds from another viewpoint ^^ So I agree with you partially.
WHAT!? oh well, each to his own. anyway, i was reading 20th while listening to this song and i get to a part where this song gets played on the radio. it was AWESOME. i felt like i was acutally there, listening to the music with everyone else. and when Urasawa started singing the gutalala part, kenji started singing that on the next page! it was epic! is it a sign?
I think the same...20th century boys is like mm...OLD BOY... , and Naruto , well like Fast and furius, 20th century boys is The Doors and Naruto mmm....Britney Spears...
Among those three, IMO only One Piece is still awesome... More awesome than ever, I'd say. Naruto went down since Shippuden (I know it exists just in the anime, I'm referring to when they're older) and Bleach is currently letting me down week after week. However, I wouldn't say they're ruining anything, neither. Shonen is shonen and seinen is seinen, that's all there is.
I read 20thCB in three days or so, it was just incredible xD. Though I prefer Monster a bit... only a little bit xDD
but...it is true that they are changing the "manga rep". im a 2nd generation japanese american and my parents told me that the current manga is not the original type of manga that came out before...and personally, compared to 20th century boys...the other ones just aren't as good. 20th century boys is actually pretty current, but the author is a friend of osamu tezuka, so it has a retro feel.
Does anyone know where I can buy these songs? I've heard three versions so far and each one of them has this hold on me, I just have to get them. But I can't seem to find them? Or am I just looking in the wrong places?
20th century boys is handsdown the best manga i have ever read... only watched the first movie which was a small dissapointment... but i've been watching monster on netflix!! almost done! DIE JOHAN. plz no spoilers lol

I find that listening to this song with any of his work fits well. I'm listening to it with Monster...and it's rather enjoyable, in my opinion.

The story of 20th Century Boys is a hundred times better than those seen in Hollywood movies. I remember spending hours and hours just reading the manga with no stop.

No... they're... they're called Hippes.

@MorgySpain What are you, retarded? Of course people can shoot you when your singing.
senken15 1 year ago
@senken15 He says YOU DON'T SHOOT HIM, not YOU CAN'T SHOOT HIM. You should read 20th Century Boys.
Kirblu 1 year ago
@Kirblu I did, after words shinji says something to the effect of 'Of course he can shoot you, you idiot.'

Is this version actually performed by Urasawa?
kofkings 2 years ago 4
yeah. Urasawa has it on his album called Half Century Man...but that's a translation.
Pyromaniac429 2 years ago 6
Oh, cool. I wasn't sure, since this version is in a much higher key than the lalala.
He has a beautiful voice.
kofkings 2 years ago 5
Really unexpected IMO. I thought it would be passable at best and then i heards this...and i was like "the hell? since when did manga artists have so many talents?"
Pyromaniac429 2 years ago 5
Beautiful.

OMGCHOPSTICKSFTW 2 years ago 7
This comment has received too many negative votes show
They're popular because they're GOOD. You're just a faggot and hate those mangas/animes because everybody else likes them probably. If you've actually read those mangas and thing they're ruining "manga rep" then you're obviously retarded.
Ayabie69 2 years ago
you know, ive been reading Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, etc...for a while, but after watching and reading 20 century boys...i don't know....they don't have much of their flair anymore.......im not saying that they're bad....just not as great as i thought. and another thing, they are changing the manga's rep. i don't know if for better or worse, but old mangas are a lot more different....centered more around the story that the action, you know?
Pyromaniac429 2 years ago 12
Are you meaning 20th with 'old'? Because it ended only two years ago and started later than OP xD
SuperSaiyanLink093 2 years ago
the thing is, Urasawa Naoki is a good friend with legendary manga artist Tezuka Osamu.
Pyromaniac429 2 years ago
It's also another type of Manga... It's not the same a shônen than a seinen manga, their own objectives and public are totally different. Also, a mistery manga focusses itself about its history while a battle manga aims to great fight scenes. Though Tite Kubo particularly wastes a lot of space in his chapters, but that's not my point xD.
The case is, Urasawa is awesome along with his style, but so are other series of other kinds from another viewpoint ^^ So I agree with you partially.
SuperSaiyanLink093 2 years ago
(However, I have to say I don't like Tezuka's works, so all of you might want to crucify me for that or stuff xDD)
SuperSaiyanLink093 2 years ago
WHAT!? oh well, each to his own. anyway, i was reading 20th while listening to this song and i get to a part where this song gets played on the radio. it was AWESOME. i felt like i was acutally there, listening to the music with everyone else. and when Urasawa started singing the gutalala part, kenji started singing that on the next page! it was epic! is it a sign?
Pyromaniac429 2 years ago 12
I think the same...20th century boys is like mm...OLD BOY... , and Naruto , well like Fast and furius, 20th century boys is The Doors and Naruto mmm....Britney Spears...
Flrestarter 2 years ago 15
Among those three, IMO only One Piece is still awesome... More awesome than ever, I'd say. Naruto went down since Shippuden (I know it exists just in the anime, I'm referring to when they're older) and Bleach is currently letting me down week after week. However, I wouldn't say they're ruining anything, neither. Shonen is shonen and seinen is seinen, that's all there is.
I read 20thCB in three days or so, it was just incredible xD. Though I prefer Monster a bit... only a little bit xDD
SuperSaiyanLink093 2 years ago 8
but...it is true that they are changing the "manga rep". im a 2nd generation japanese american and my parents told me that the current manga is not the original type of manga that came out before...and personally, compared to 20th century boys...the other ones just aren't as good. 20th century boys is actually pretty current, but the author is a friend of osamu tezuka, so it has a retro feel.
