If you're sniping a guy, what are the chances that he will hear the "supressed" noise from a gun, at like 200+ yards? Highly unlikely, therefore, they are silencers in the sense that your distant target can't hear them. If you run n' gun, then they are supressors, because your enemy around the corner, will hear you take out his guard.

they are called suppressors, because they are made to suppress your sound's noise and muzzle flash. "silencer" implies that the gun makes absolutely no noise, which isnt true. "silence" is a concrete term: you are either silent or not. also the -ER is used differently in silencer than in something like hungrier. in hungrier you ARE more hungry, in silencer you are MAKING it more silent, which is impossible because silence is a concrete term.

You guys should do an in depth analysis of similar killstreaks like the chopper gunner and gunship or the probability of getting a certain killstreak in a carepackage (if possible). Because if a silencer reduces range, (and it takes more bullets to kill)

And if it takes more bullets to kill it's the same as saying it reduces damage.........

@TheCaDoosh No, because the gun does the same damage with or without a silencer, but the damage range is different. Lowering the damage would mean that it takes 3 to kill long range with a silencer, but 2 without. The weapons max and min damage numbers do not change. Only the range at which they take a effect. That's different than say cutting total damage in half.

@TheCaDoosh Ok, here we go again. It lowers damage for a certain area, but the max and min are not affected. If it lowered damage in general, the M14 would be a 4 or 5 hit kill at long range instead 3. The maximum and minimum damage the guns can do are fixed. The game also has a fixed range for where the damage drops from the max to the min. The silencers make that range closer the drop steeper. The guns up close, and long ranges are not affected at all.
