man, this guy went from a good indie guy when he first came out and fame changed him into an asshole. His shit sucks now, his earlier stuff that was never released was better than any shit he put on lps. I hope for the sake of BROS he goes away.

I dont think the sound fit well on the acoustic, I think the lyrics lend themselves nicely for him to really blues this one out though. Listening to it I wanted to hear it done in the style of a slow dancing in a burning room type slow blues sound. How he still has this earmarked for a later album, too good to leave on the shelf.
As I could get, the chords are G#, Fm, C#maj7(9), D#7 and when he says "you can use me up..." is G#, F#7, C#maj7(9), D#7...u can use this: G#: 64-46-35,24, Fm: 61-43-31-21, C#maj7(9): 69-410-38-29, D#7: 56-48-36-28-16, F#7: 64-44-33-22...the first number is related to the string n the 2nd related to the fret...ex: 64 means 6 string at 4th fret...and use ur thumb for all the notes on the 6 string, ayt? Hope it helps...
imagine how much fun he was having at this point in time; living in new york city in a 7500 dollar a month loft in NEW YORK CITY!, banging whatever moved, being rich as hell, and being moderately famous with a great career ahead. damn
sounds like A major, to F#minor, to DMaj7(9), to E7......then he does A major, then G with the 9th on top (5th fret A on high E string).......that oughta get you going :)
John should totally pull a fast one on all of us and just release all these "unrealeased" songs like this one and Sucker, The Hurt, etc. Doesn't even need that much production. Just him and a guitar. We'd all buy it and you know it.
@fc7alibi I TOTALLY AGREE with you.. OMFG he has SO MUCH old songs with just his guitar and his voice, and they're AWESOME! Let's tweet him about it ;)! He can work on it after his Battlestudies tour..
@fc7alibi Thats a really good point. I would deffo buy the album with them all on... I spend more time on youtube these days listening to 'unreleased' songs of his than I do listening to his albums!!!
@fc7alibi In full agreement. some of his 'unreleased' stuff is part of his best stuff. "The Hurt" especially. Prly one his best songs lyric wise. The guitar is pretty catchy too for that matter.
@fc7alibi totally. i always envy those people who are on mayercraft, then he busts out these unreleased songs. best part is. most of his fans know these songs just as well as songs off continuum or any other album. give it a few more years, im sure he has tracks that havent melodically blown our ears off yet. dont see why he wouldnt come out with one
If he released an album of rarities I would die. It would seriously be such treat; it would be like a gift to all of his best fans because not everyone knows of songs like Sucker or The Hurt. Whether he did it acoustic or simple electric it would be a gem. I pray that this one day happens; it'll probably happen when he's super old, like Clapton old.But after hearing how he talks about some songs and how they've been reprocessed into other/new songs there seems to be no chance )=
@surfer1211 I'm sure all of the songs are recorded, so really all he'd have to do is take the files from his computer, whereever they are, and upload it to website. I feel like he'd give them to fans for free
This could be for Heavier Things, because John Mayer's voice sounds young and he has mentioned before that Heavier Things was his Electric album (after Room for Squares, but before he got real electric with Try! and Continuum).
Though, if he was still independent in this performance, maybe Room for Squares WAS electric compared to his independent release (Inside Wants Out?).
In any case, I think it's older than Continuum. His voice doesn't sound as confident and mature as it does now.
This is a more refined version of the song he was just spitting out at the Housing Works Used Book Store in 04 so the album he's talking about is Continuum... He got into writing that record and got sidetracked with the Trio... Hence Gravity and Vultures being on there...
no he mentioned the fact that the next album was gunna be more electric so it was weird playing it on an electric daughters was on heavier things and its acoustic the point hes makeing is like he did when he took neon from electric to acoustic
hed been writing on an electric much more at the time so yer its for heavier things
Everybody constantly writes about love themed songs. i think its interesting that he writes about other things then love, it makes him different than everyone else.
I totally agree with you! Happy to see that someone else also noticed that! He also writes and sings about other things, such as life in general (vultures/stop this train).
As far for wpc8384:
I somehow agree, but you just mentioned 3 songs. He has some very emotional songs (e.g. gravity and stop this train)! And maybe they are not as simple as 'covered in rain' and are not necessarily about love.
Furthermore: John Mayer, imo, is one of the best singer/songwriters out there!
i agree with you, waiting on the world..vultures..belief..as great as they are they dont carry the emotional weight like his other songs...something as simple as covered in rain beats the other songs in term of emotional content
wait i have a question. whens this from? because he said his next cd was gonna be on electric guitar, so i dont know if he means his current upcoming cd "battle studies" or a previous cd
Help, I can't get this song out of my head! lol I love it! I wish he'd play it in concert, and record it on an album. Thanks so much for putting it up! :)
lyrics are a lot like "guess who" by BB King...
