Even in state or city where there is no blade length, being able to flick a folding knife open like that makes it illegal to possess in most places. If a cop were to stop you and look at the knife and he was able to flick it open like that, you could be arrested and your knife confiscated. Better to keep the blade just tight enough so that it can't be flipped open with a jerk of the wrist. The little jimped extension that is on the blade above the opening post can be used to open the knife fast.
5. "Gravity knife" means any knife has blade which is released from the handle or sheath thereof by the force of gravity of the application of centrifugal force which, when released, is locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever, or other device. [Note: In NYC, and potentially in other NY jurisdictions, this definition is construed to apply to ANY folding knife with a blade that locks open. ]
@superslomoe Wow, any locking blade illegal. I thought I was beyond being surprised by the extent of oppressive government. That's a valuable bit of info -- glad to have you among our viewers!
@SNOmultimedia In NY, but mostly NYC the definition is so vague that a lot of knives are illegal under what is considered a gravity knife, great vids though, subscribed!
Opened like a boss. Nicely done :) Have you also tried the speed open deployment from your pocket? It's deployment is even faster and it's from the draw. I think you'll enjoy it. Thanks for promoting Cold Steel. Have an awesome day and enjoy your weekend
@csknives I wish I had demonstrated that technique too. It's my choice deployment for the 4-inch. I'll have to shoot that. My three boys each bought a kukri machete the other day. A half-hour after they arrived, I had a wood-box full of kindling by the stove. I'll see if they want to do a review.
@surfboardhacker When I first saw the GK style years ago, I thought it was just goofy. Then I held one, and realized just how functional that design actually is. So when my boys said they wanted to get one from CS, I said absolutely.
@goldenscales Actually, it isn't. A switchbade is a blade that is under spring tension that is released by a button. This blade is designed in a way that its easier to open than most knives.
@AirsoftShenanigans Ok, fair enough. This is my own personal viewpoint, ok, so please don't get excited. I don't really like that knife. Did you see the way the blade wobbled when you flicked it out? My preference is for fixed blade knives. All good, my brother, I still enjoy your videos!
@goldenscales Heh, I understand. I just like knives, period. But this one actually doesn't wobble at all when open. It's very tight. That's just the whole knife wobbling in my hand. But hey, thanks for watching!

@mkeulr Actually I'm not aware of *any* place where that makes it illegal.

@mkeulr That is not illegal. Assisted open knives are totally legal even in California and this one isn't even assisted.
