@stopthesoftkill Yeah, but so was western armor ;) Samurai armor was designed to protect against glancing blows and stray arrows, not against direct hits, while maintaining agility. Western armor was so heavy most knights couldn't even stand up on their own once they fell, and a direct hit from a cannon/gun/Japanese longbow would go through anyway, as would a clean hit with a Katana on a weak spot.

Both types of armor have their weaknesses and strengths, and none protect against cannons ;)
