  • Simply awesome series of videos, glad you got back safely, and thanks for the footage!

  • Great review, keep up the good work!

I've made up my mind - I'm getting this bike!!

  • best review ever!!! thank you

  • @guyguybass Thank You! we agree. MVR

  • By far the best real video review THANK YOU

  • @bttran28 Thank You! We couldn't agree more. MVR

  • Incredible footage and test/description of the bike - answered just about every question you could have. My only complaint is that it was in HD.

  • @Cacinok HD - ouch. If this was filmed in HD, it would have never made it out. Thanks! MVR

  • Oops, should've said wasn't in HD, but you got the point. Either way, excellent video and review. Now I just need to track down a F800GS locally.

  • @Cacinok If you want to see some outrageous stuff on the 800 (and R1200GS), you have to watch our Barstow to Vegas movie! MVR

  • @Cacinok HD is so complicated for us. It would have made this video impossible. We have HD coming soon with coverage of the S1000RR. Thanks! MVR

  • This will be my next motorcycle. Currently ride an 06' FZ-1 and -03' YZ250F. This bike seems like the marriage of the two. I wil shell out the extra money for all the e bells and whistles. Grips, windscreen, skid plate, engine guard, boxes, hand guards, and lights. And that will still be cheaper and 100lbs lighter than a new Super Tenere. The R1200 is just too big. I was in the Reno BMW dealer earlier today and that bike is just huge. Too much weight to handle off road.

  • @xeuse51 I love off-road street riders! If you choose to start with the seat and windshield I think you'll be good to go. Yes, dramatic difference between the two bikes, each with there special charm. MVR

  • I didn't want it to end! Good job =]

  • @idiotzrule Thank You! I still watch this series and I was there. Just kind of makes me feel good. MVR

  • Absolutely brilliant review, watched every second and loved it all, I felt like i went on the adventure with you. Hope MCN watch this and learn

  • @stevehowe64 Thank you! We're available ...

  • I am a Multistrada rider and I have always loved the BMW GS series. I sat and watched all 8 sections and absolutely loved every second of it. Great job doing a review of the bike. There are plenty of motorcycle magazines and video companies out there that could learn a few things from your review here.

Great job, and I look forward to seeing more videos.

    Joe

  • @CCT8799 Thank you for the great comments. I still go back and watch these. The difference between the others is that they get paid to do it, we don't. Next step - launch a motorcycle TV show on the web - coming soon. Thanks again - MVR

  • @mvrtvcom

MVR; Because of this review come the first of the year I will be adding a new F800GS to my garage. The multistrada is going to stay, but it needs a new friend, enter F800GS. Its always refreshing to see people who review a bike, do it correctly, and mainly just because they love motorcycles and the adventures they bring. I look forward to seeing the TV show, and best of luck in the future.

    Joe

ps- any chance to review the Tiger 800XC??

  • @CCT8799 Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, they mean a lot. Yes, we would like to do the 800XC. Will it happen? I have no idea - maybe a better chance for it in the TV show. The show is getting very close, but it will be different than the ride videos. If I had it my way, I'd just do the rides - but nobody will put money behind it. MVR

  • Well you get a big round of applause here. What absolutely fantastic review , really put the bike through it paces. I don't BMW could have don't a better promotional video, real riding for us ordinary folk. BMW take note, I want one of these bikes!

  • You are the BEST Bill

  • @MrKAWAKLE Wow! Thank you! Wait till you see our Barstow to Vegas movie - coming very soon. Bill MVR

  • Excellent video.... my next bike this year I think..... Thanks sir!! Now to watch your other videos....

  • Not sure if m first post went through, what is 1st gear slowest speed without clutch work? also when is the Barsto to Vegas video coming out?

Thanks and by far the best video on the net.

  • Great review, best out there! I'm worried about 1st gear being too tall for the tight stuff, could you tell me what speed you go in first without any clutch work. thanks.

other bikes I'm considering are super tenere and tiger xc, will you be doing any reviews on those bikes, I'll be buying in a couple months. Thanks

  • Thanks MVRTVCOM for a great unbiased review. Your en-route commentary is excellent as is the production of the video.

Wish we had guy's here in Australia who were as professional and interesting, not to mention not in the back pocket of manufacture.

Buy the way, even though our $ is on par with the US, a F800GS is $18,000 and BMW clothing starts at $800.

None the less, our 1200GS was am amazing bike, but can't wait to get an 800, mostly because of your down to earth review.

    Thanks mate.

  • Congrats on this test! That's e real test! Now, I've made my mind and decided to go with the F800 GS! What a trip you had!... Thanks for all your insights on the bike.... Cheers!

  • Thankyou very much tor this series. This is probably the best bike review Iwe ever seen. Not usual 3-4 minutes cons/pros, but proper test ride, comented right on the place. Im thinking about getting some adventure-tour bike in the future and this is hot candidate.

  • to make a long story short i was waiting for the release of the new tiger 800 adventure before even considering the 800gs. after watching this series im damn near sold on it. ya the headlights are a bit goofy and the styling has its own taste, but seeing what this bike went through and didnt even shutter was amazing. you guys did a great job of testing and reviewing the bike. after thoughts are nice but you get no better perspective than when riding and putting it through its paces.

  • @pcracer2 Thank you for the kind comments. I guess you wont like watching the upcoming movie where we ride the 2010 model (no changes) in the Barstow to Vegas dual-sport ride. All off road and brutal. :) MVR

  • @mvrtvcom you are welcome. i can't wait! im hopefully gonna have the funds ready to start shoping for a new bike at the end of the year and the 800gs is at the top of my list. to top that off im actually taking a trip to Colorado next summer and these vids have made me sooo much more excited!!

  • @pcracer2 Can we come? MVR

  • Thanks - I just watched this 8 part odyssey - again. Just put my bike away for the winter. It's a F800gs - great fun, partly bought it because of you! Thanks and thanks again.

  • @kierbye No, thank you. The difference between us is that when Winter is over ... you'll have an F800GS to pull out of the garage - I won't. I also wouldn't put any bike away for Winter. Watch our music shorts, the full movie will come soon. MVR

  • Wow, its a very nice night way

  • Watched all 8 parts - best motorcycle test i have ever seen! Thanks! - been debating R1200GSA vs F800GS for next trip to baja to see the baja 1000 (rented r1200gs last year)- i think this convinced me to get F800GS - hope the 2011 makes it out by November 1st 2010!

  • How was your bum after all this? I took one out today for two hours and loved it, but biy oh boy after just two hours my arse was numb. I then jumped on the 1200 with a standard seat in the low position and it was perfect. Got off after 2 hours and felt like id been on it for 5 minutes. The 800 is more fun for sure, but I think for comfort and distance I am going to have to go for the 1200.

  • Wow, amazing! I recently had a long trip (4955 km) here in Norway. On my "old" bike, a XT660X. But I found out that that`s not what that bike is built for. So I tested a 800 GS, and after watching your review, I ordered it, after selling my other bike. But it wont be here for about three weeks.. Thank you so much for making this.

  • @petdam82 Oh the miles I spent going absolutely everywhere on an XT600 and XT500 here in the states. Now I've dated myself. I think you'll be as happy as a kid in a candy store ... at least I hope so. Thanks for taking the time to pass along the kind words. Oh, a movie to be posted soon - Desert Dual Sport on the F800GS and R1200GS - CRAZY!!!

  • hehe - he said "I've got gas" (6:00)

  • Great video.

What camera did you use in this and the r1200GS night ride video?

    Thanks in advance.

  • thank you...very much....grate work...and we appreciated. if I may...can you please test also a Guzzi Stelvio...I am a big fan but couldn't find much out there abut this bike..

    Regards from Romania,

    B.

  • thanks for all your time and effort I loved it

  • Absolutely the best videos, commentary, and real life descriptions of what's going on I've ever watched!!

Only one thing...wish I was there with you riding an F800!!

    Thanks for the adventure!

    Ride safe.....

  • Hell of a video..! Good job! Now THIS is what i call a review..haha.

Even when the F800 costs $29k here in Singapore, i'm getting it!

    Thanks again friend, great review!

  • Great job my friend!! I have been looking at the 650 and the 800. I'm new to the two wheel game and you were a great help. The series was a big help. Keep up the good work, you rock!!!!

  • Thanks! New to two wheels? I hope you select the 650 for the best possible match. MVR

  • Mate, thank you so much for that. The best bike review I've seen and / or read. Our BMW dealer here in Perth, AUS has just got a sale. No written review can convey what you just managed to do. Well done.

  • I'm just speechless.. I've been riding motorcycles for 18 years and I can say that this series of videos are the best I've ever seen. This is the TRUE Motorcyclism, not the barren tests often seen in bike reviews. Thanks for the feelings I had watching your adventure up there. I've experienced a similar situation years ago but 1st I was not alone (4 bikes), 2nd it was summer (night temp in the mountains >50F) and 3rd in Crete we have no bears :)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! If I had time to stop I definitely would have started thinking about bears. ... and mountain lions, and more. MVR

  • @mvrtvcom (this reply is for you, I don't care if you post it or not) Have I told you that at the end I bought the bike? You can watch me here: /watch?v=6H1xBnhpx0Y, sorry for the bad quality, we didn't have a helmet cam. I've done 7300 km in 4 months, I just love the bike!!

  • Bill, you have a winner here. The editing and production values are super. What I am most impressed with is the video quality and the sound. What video setup are you using and how are you able to have such good sound with low noise?

Also, did you feel the suspension was adequate for your size? Did you ever notice the front or rear forks bottom?

    Keep up the great work!

  • Thank you for the kind words. I use a custom setup, and it's always being updated. You also need to be a sound engineer - I'm not. (lots and lots of work) The suspension is more than adequate - only the front end good be more progressive (stiffer) for quick hitting bumps off-road. Just rode the 2010 500 (B to V) miles of serious off-road - the forks bottom. (video some time next year) The bike shouldn't be able to do what it does. Still excellent fuel mileage with HARD off-road riding. Thanks!MVR

  • Man you just cost me 12 G's! One of the best reviews I've seen in free streaming. Just a natural ride with its bits of adventure cutting all that useless tech. overdose comments that sometimes are widespread in bike's reviews. Excellent job (BMW should look after you for a trip like 'All Way Down/Round') & keep on inspiring man. Saludos from Venezuela.

  • Thank you! You don't know how much your words mean. Enjoy, I just rode the 2010 model for 600 miles cross the desert in the 2009 LA-Barstow-Vegas dual sport ride. A video of this will come out from us and BMW next year. MVR

  • Already subscribed to your channel so I'll be looking forward to watch the new stuff... Keep on man!

  • Simply one of the best bike vids on Youtube. Thank you for going thru to trouble of creating this.

Now its been a year since you did this ride - do you still have the same opinion of this bike?

  • Thank you! Yes! We would only point out that the seat is not a good all-day or multiple day seat. This isn't as noticeable off-road. MVR

  • great videos! great reviews and great scenery as well! 1 question, how would you rate the comfort of the seat / bike on really Looonnnggg hauls?

  • great videos! great reviews and scenery as well! The only question I have is, how would you rate the seat/bike on Looooooonngg hauls?

  • I was thinking the exact same thing. We need our viewers to start a letter campaign - as it simply won't happen. We miss the bike and I want one! At least everyone who buys one can go riding when they want. I'm bike-less at the moment and it sucks. MVR

  • BMW should give you a GS as a thank you for single-handedly selling countless bike.

  • Excellent review, I have never seen one like this. I think around part 4 or 5 while I was at work I signed up for the magazine. I have an f800gs on order and this just made wait all the more unbearable. I love getting lost on my own like that I have a small DS bike now and it gets me into plenty of trouble as is! Excellent review and ride report, thanks for sharing it.

  • Yes, people have said our review cost them 12 grand. Good for you, we had to give ours back to Rider - ouch! Isn't this the best kind of getting lost? I live for it! If I had a small DP bike they'd never find me. MVR

  • I never say this because i'm a very bitter man but those videos rocked! Best review video I've ever seen for detail if your really interested in the bike (which I am).

  • I'm a very bitter man as well, BMW asked for the bike back (actually Rider Magazine did). I don't have one. You went out on a limb; you said the right thing to the right person. I appreciate your comments immensely.

  • I have just ordered an F800GS and waiting to take delivery, so have been searching out any info on the net whilst I wait for the bike to arrive. AWESOME job on not only the bike review, but the story on the adventure. This is the sort of stuff I normally buy on DVD to watch. I think you will have made the bike handover at my BMW dealer real easy now, as I don't think they could tell me anymore than you did. Congrats again. Hope you get to do some stories down here in Oz sometime. All the best..!

  • Thanks for taking the time to write - you lucky dog! We had to give ours back. Nobody will ever know the work that went into this (a labor of love that will send you to the poor house) - we should be selling it on DVD.

I'm glad you found our videos, I'd love to ride down under.

    MVR

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We rate your comments A++++.

    :) MVR

  • Watched all 8 video's... Great review, great riding, great bike. Thanks very much for sharing your review/ride. This is by far the best "real" review I've ever watched A++++

  • I was just about to say the same thing - BMW should give you a commission check for this review!

And watching this 8-part review is about to cost me $12k! Thanks (I think) haha

  • But then I'll be wishing I had one like you.

    :) MVR

  • Wow! That was a fantastic review. Excellent compliment to my Rider subscription! Thanks for all of the reviews. I can't believe (but am oh so happy!) that you guys are putting in the monumentous amount of time it must take to put these reviews together! And tell BMW that they owe you at least one commission check!

  • Thanks! If the OEMs don't get behind what we do, we may not continue to do it. We're working on something big, but it's a long shot. MVR

  • Absolutely fantastic review! Thanks for the great work.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. MVR

Can't take credit for the awesome bike...

Thanks for the awesome comments - can't begin to tell you how much viewer comments like this mean to us!

    Thanks! Awesome! MVR

  • Awesome video.......I'm going to the BMW store this Friday to check one out because of this video. I'm not planning to do a whole lot of off-road riding, I just want that capability if I decide to. Is the on road riding real smooth? How about at like 70 mph? Does it shake at all at those speeds?

  • Thanks! The video shows we like it. 4 things we don't like. The seat is good off-road but not an all day seat by any stretch. The optional bags (we like them) are too expensive. This engine produces too much vibration. It buzzes at times. I was able to ignore this on my rides, but it's certainly there as you rev it. The 4th is that we don't have one. Ours is somewhere getting 09 bike of the year from Rider. (and others) We'll never see it again. It's very smooth on the street - enjoyable.

  • How much do you hate that feeling of "im not going to make it, im almost out of fuel".

    Nice work.

  • Depends on where I am, the temperature, night or day, distance to walk, etc. In this case it was all against me. If I had stayed on the getting worse dirt road I could have been stranded where nobody would pass by. As it was, I didn't see another sole for the entire trip through the woods. It was GREAT!

  • Great videos

Just had the first service on my GS800 in Canberra Australia. Rode back to Bega on the South Coast of NSW on dirt roads east of Monaro Hwy. Had a great ride, opened the bike up for the first time. I am really impressed it handles and goes extremely well. Took it on some single track to see how it went I am equally impressed, for a big bike I am surprised just how well balanced it is and how well it handles in the tight stuff.

  • Yes, it hides it size very well. You just aren't worried about that when you ride it. You still have the bike, we had to give it back to Rider.

    MVR

  • Great videos!! I love them all. I just got back from my 6000Mi. Service of my GS 800 and I love the bike!

  • Thank You.

    MVR

  • NIce wheelie at the end! Good way to finish a fantastic series of video reviews.

  • Thank you very much!

    MVR

  • Really excellent review of what looks like the perfect bike for me. What can I sell so I can afford to get one???

  • Great series of videos, you guys did an amazing job on this. I was even getting a little worried for you at the end there!

    Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you. Me too!

    MVR

  • Your 2 closing shots were perfect. Thank you for the whole series. I'm off to ride mine now.

  • Lucky Dog! I had to give ours back to Rider. I don't have one any longer. Did really enjoy the F650GS, though not off-road. MVR

  • @mvrtvcom

  • Good job on the series Bill, I felt as though I was with you especially up in Colorado running out of gas!!!

  • Thank you, that means a lot! This is why I do what I do, so riders can feel like they are along with me. I o actually think of what riders would like or want to know as I do this.

    MVR

  • Fantastic wrap to the best review series I've seen. Thanks again for all of your time and work in this series. You sold a F800GS to me and I'm sure BMW will be appreciative.

  • Thanks! I'm still waiting for BMW to be appreciative. :)

I don't have one to ride, drat.

    MVR

  • Great bike and even better review.

  • Thank you!
